We have good people in Nigeria that want us to do better but corrupt politicians are the problem. We need state police to fight this insecurity, all we need is strong leadership to guide it.
Nigeria politicians do not want to invest in a well structured and equipped police force. State and local police is the answer to large population like Nigeria .
Nigerian Police force members are like masquerades who emerge from their grotto every once in a while to put the fear of whatever they're worshipping in the hearts of ordinary people. Living in barracks 24/7 is not a particularly healthy way to maintain a formidable and community based police force. Barracks are good for the occassional team or leadership training. Making police members live within the community they serve will create a sense of awareness of their responsibilities. So, before talking about decentralisation, there should be an effort to relocate Nigerian policemen away from group public housing to their own private residences, otherwise the history of the inefficiencies of the NPF will propagate to the state police forces, just like those inherited from the police forces created by the British colonialists starting in 1830. Besides, the government will save a lot of money from multiple ill conceived contracts, giving them the ability to properly compensate the policemen for their good work and hopefully also drastically reduce the incidence of corrupt officers.
Funny country Nigeria 😂 professor and honorary doctors everywhere but no development, corruption is killing the country, moral decades everywhere, may the lord help this country.
