  • Shingles or herpes zoster is caused by the same virus as chickenpox, the varicella-zoster virus and can trigger painful skin rashes in approximately 1/3rd of those afflicted with chickenpox. These symptoms can last many weeks and, in some cases, can result in chronic pain called postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). Laser therapy is now referred to as photobiomodulation therapy or PBMT and has several beneficial mechanisms of action that may assist in the treatment of both shingles and PHN. Join BIOFLEX’s Medical Director, Dr. David Kunashko for a deep dive into shingles and PHN focusing on the role of PBMT in assisting with recovery and improvement of symptoms.

Been doing a lot of research on this and it would seem its if youve still got symptoms after about 2 months then yes it could be the wretched PHN as my husband has been left with probably cos A&E sent him home with pain killers and never gave him or even mentioned how vital it was to get the needed medication asap to prevent this happening. One needs to get treated within 72 hrs but cos he had horrendous head pain on a Sunday 111 said to go up A&E, sat there for nearly 6 hrs just to be sent home with paracetamol and no mention of the urgency to see doctor first thing Monday. It was thanks to spec savers he was referred to see an eye specialist at our Bexhill eye hospital he got diagnosed and treated for shingles on the Wednesday but this was like past the 72 hrs stage. Thankfully at least the eye drops and cream stopped it affecting his sight. As for your question about the dry sauna I guess your have to do more research , There's not enough help I'm afraid.

Sadly it looks to be the case, how ever shingles will go in time, its if your left with the PHN post herpetic neuralgia that's a real concern like my husband has now and in the worse place possible dr told him, in the head, around his eye and cheek and forehead. Extremely painful and could be permanent or could be one of the lucky ones and it goes after one year!
