I’ve seen some people disagree with playing supporters or defenders and while it is true that you can climb easier with carries, if you are STUCK in rank and playing a carry then you are not playing the right Pokémon for you.
Id also note that statistically, if youre one of the lowest picks, playing one of these supportive roles is gonna net your team the advantage. Yes you might feel like you should be masters 2000+, but whats to say your teammates arent supposed to be there too, so trusting in the elo system to be somewhat correct is gonna go a long way. (Only shame there is, that duos always get pushed up to the top, so having the lowest elo player in the lobby fail at jungling because you thought they'd be high elo sucks)
I guess I’m trying to say in the most supportive and constructive way possible… if you aren’t carrying and climbing relatively easy it’s time to get back to learning the mechanics and leave the greninja to your allies.
My only disagreement would be dura. Probably the only beginner friendly mon, that allows for easy items and lane secures while allowing you to do dmg with a minimally challenging moveset. Considering everything right now revolves around a flip meta (another point not really talked about in the video) Dura is a strong lane pick for allowing you to secure end game objectives.
Another good tip: if you're losing a lot, stop playing, don't keep playing until you win, specially if you are not very patient. When you're stressed and angry you're more likely to make bad decisions and take bad fights and wrongfully blame teammates for things you did
More times than I can count I saw teammates trying to force unwinnable fights on objectives and goals and getting really angry that the team didn't follow up and doing early surrender votes. Sometimes you gotta play back and catch up for the final fight
Everyone playing pokemon unite should watch this. I am sick and tired of trying to teach people what to do as i am playing. Players at ultra can still be very infuriating at times. Nowadays i only play quick matches unless i got my buddies around. Please share this video out to all your friends playing. I want to enjoy the game better.
I think Unite needs a much better tutorial system, I was recently a new player and almost none of what the in game tutorial taught me applies to an actual game.
I think the reason chasing the enemies going back is a bad idea is because you should stay in the fight to help against the enemies still fighting... right?
@@pkmntrainerred4247 absolutely. If you stay and knock out the remaining enemies, you probably have time to take the objective and/or score. Also, if you chase you may get KOed yourself and feed the enemy experience
Learning to play Supp/Tank is useful imo as it actually teaches you to play as team and not focus too much on "killing" and have wider view to the match as a whole..is it easy? Nah, it is painful sometimes, but personally, it helps me a lot
Then again, we all remember Mr. Mime's reign of terror… Sometimes you *_do_* support by killing the other team. Now, if you're Clefable, you support the _other_ team by being completely useless.
I think another thing that wasn't mentioned but is equally important is to practice! I'm an Eldegoss main and I have had lots of matches with it but I still have misjudgements especially when I try to secure Rayquaza/Zapdos, so knowing the character inside out helps a lot. Also, coming from my personal experiences as a solo q Supporter/Defender main, I agree that people should know about these roles more and how they work so when they transition to being the carry, they will become mindful of the Supporters and Defenders of the team. However, since it is solo q, it's a very frustrating process to climb with these mons. It frustrates me sometimes that there are people ignoring these mons and tries to carry on their own. I mean go for it but what happens when you get killed? At the end of the day, many Supporter/Defender mons can't carry the games on our own. They need to enable someone to carry the team for them. Thanks for this video, Spragels! I hope this sheds some light to other players, especially the ones who don't show up to Rayquaza. I'm looking at all of the solo q backcappers 💀
I agree wholeheartedly. That said, not all supporters/defenders are built the same!! Having played all of them, Clefable is pretty garbage right now. There are several very good reasons it's had the second lowest win rate since the updates. When Clef came out the novelty caught people off guard and yes, gravity was pretty mean against certain carry mons (especially Charizard lol) but that is no longer the case. Gravity was "fixed" so now it's meh, and follow me barely works. That leaves the healing, which Clefable can do OK but nowhere near Blissey levels. Add the fact that that Blissey has way higher HP, def, and sp def, and there is really *_ZERO_* reason to play Clefable at the moment. So, yes, practice is very important, but do not waste time with pokemon that are useless. Also, keep current on updates!!
Tips- Try to main an all-rounder or defender Use the correct held items Watch the gameplay of other pros Learn how to pull the combos of your Pokemon Don't go attacker or Speedster in an all attacker/Speedster team Use correct emblems Give priority to objectives Don't play for MVP play for victory
@@GenJuhru Drain crown is not a good idea as to get even 10k healing you need to do 100k damage with basic attacks playing tank or support is a much better idea
Also another tip cause I see this alot. When people push with eliki just stay on the goal or go in out real quick you get shields en hp. I see too many people fighting outside the goal and dying. This tip is also useful for when they just push you 3v2 or 2v1 (you are with less people in te scenario). Stay on base en you will most likely win.
@@riteshparab4033 depends of so many factors, wich pokemon are you playing, what items, what teamates, what enemies? Just know that even if a game seems lost, you just have to farm to have a chance to win at rayquaza.
Spragel is like the rare teacher that makes you have no lesson for 4 periods but still good at teaching and make the students achieve greater grades. Thank you for helping us Spragels :D
You forgot to mention not attacking Rayquaza when you're winning. I lost a game the other day because the Crustle defender decided to attack Rayquaza even though we were winning, and they weren't ready to defend the team so two of us got KO'd and the other team quickly outnumbered us.
Another tip that wasn't mentioned was knowing how a pokemons move work. Not just so you can be better at using it but you'll also know how to play against one. As a 1000 match lucario main I didn't know that bonerush plus (lvl 13) totally resets espeed/pup until I've played around 300 matches.
I got stuck in Ultra with Tsareena for most of last season and these were the things I fixed to get to Masters no problem this season: 1. Stopped pushing with regieleki 2. Switched to Azu when my team looked weak early-game 3. Stopped trying to save teammates and defend goals when I was obviously outmatched 4. Farmed more, fought less I learned a ton from spragels, inder, toonslim, and stevemycat and playing smarter makes a huge difference!
this is actually really helpful though its one year ago i was stuck in veteran class 5, and i watched the whole video and decided to buy trevenant, now im winning all my games in a row and actually contributing in helping my teammates. thank you so, so much spragels, couldnt have ranked up without you
Really nice video, Jake. And honestly, that was what worked for me. I started playing in season 1, but I didn't know anything about this type of game, like held itens, farm, rotate, synergy and so on. I started playing Talon and Venu and boy... getting behind was tough to come back. I stressed so much and ended in Ultra rank that season. In S2, I got to Masters learning the game basics (itens, but most important, rotation and farm) and started to try to fill empty roles in my team, playing Eldegoss and Slowbro (AMAZING choices that fill in any team even now and easy to use). Of course, there are games that your carries just simply won't do their jobs and it's gonna be frustrating, but if you learn those roles right, you can make a lot of them look like beasts when at your side.
The issue is too many people think they are the main character and have to get the kills to win. Defenders are a GREAT role to fill. Stop them from scoring. Play the objectives with your team.
Solo Q Master 1600 here. I think it's right to use Pokemon that you can carry (Speedster, Attack, All-rounder) until Veteran Tier. Up until that tier, you'll often meet teammates who can't play their roles properly. So, you'll have to carry worth more than 2 people to win. You have to practice Supporters or Defenders after Master Tier. Most of the teammates you meet will play their roles well and know exactly what to do. Plus, there's a high chance that you'll meet teammates who can use carry Pokemon better than you. Therefore, you should be able to play at least one Supporter and Defender at Master Tier and above. I used Meowscarada as my main, a speedster, until I got to Master 1400, and then I used Slowbro along with it while going from 1400 to 1600.
I always dislike it when I get a stacking partner that tries too hard to get their stacks and constantly dies. Not to be prejudiced, but almost every Machop partner I get is like this. I always try to avoid laning with Machop lol.
Another thing to notice when watching the minimap for wild Pokémon spawns are the spawns on the other sides of the map. During times in the match between objectives or after taking an objective while the other team is distracted their are times when you can steal A lot of exp from the other team by KOing their wild Pokémon. Most people don’t watch the minimap and go for exp as soon as it spawns so this is easily abused.
Keeping it simple when you're having trouble sounds hard, but it's a very effective strategy as you've demonstrated here. I've also had times where I had trouble focusing on trying easier, solid builds. Thank you for the advice, spragels!
I also like the idea of playing range instead of melee and focusing on never dying. Ranged Pokémon can still perform as intended when staying out of the heat of fights. It also forces you to be aware of what is happening off screen, since your attacks are almost flying off screen if playing range correctly.
sadly, my problem is not with skill, its because im the unluckiest man alive, i always get teamed up with stupid kids who go afk on 5 min left just cause they're losing some fights.
The biggest thing i see is team comp. if your team already has 2 squishies dont pick another one. Also dont pick healers if your team is squishy. Think about if your team already has ranged attackers then pick a melee. Stick together with your team. And dont keep going to fight just to keep getting KO’d. If your team isnt helping then go farm or push with them.
One thing that helps me when I get hard stuck at various rank levels is hard focusing on team comp; I only play solo queue so every single team is obvs different. If three players are playing special attack types, I go with an attack type mon - if three people are playing ranged, I go with a melee, etc. It can help. Only thing is that it means I have to know quite a few different mon - and that's okay with me because I like learning new things! It feels good to review my playable mon roster and know I've become more proficient with all of them. Also, I regularly review and fine-tune my boost emblem comps - a few times when hard stuck, I revamped my emblems and that also helped.
Great points, I would add that some games are literally unwinnable and that's okay. Being a high rank doesn't guarantee that you're a great player and being low rank doesn't always mean you're bad, don't take losses personally, take breaks and enjoy the game. Watch videos to get better and be open to feedback.
Thanks spragels, I hope every players watch this video especially with those backcappers, Those stackers that die for nothing and leaving our goal undefended, People uses their unite within 3min mark, Gardevoir and tyranitar not leveling up, and people just not picking role defender and supporter. fr these are underrated, it's pretty fun for most people.
The items I run on basically every pokemon are Muscle band (lv30), Focus band (lv30), Score shield (lv30). Focus band has got me more K/Os in this game than any attack items ever could I swear. Muscle band with auto attack speed is just great in general with most pokemon. Score shield lets you score when people drop on you and gives you a decent amount of hp at level 30. I only play like 2 special attackers, which are wigglytuff and glaceon which the muscle band attack speed and extra damage on autos helps a lot. I personally recommend Wigglytuff for climbing. That pokemon is so broken when used properly and helping your team get the K/Os with sing.
I used to think this exact same way. As in, it would be much better to play Defender/Support but you know exactly how to play optimally with that mon, rather than "forcing yourself" to play the likes of Greninja and Cinderace but ends up feeding hard and be a clown. Even though people liek Krashy insisted that playing Defender/Support is "griefing your own Games". But then again, we have to play to our strengths, and if everyone thinks like Krashy, then you will have team comps with 5 attackers every single game. Someone has to take the "honor" if you would, to play as Tank/Defender/Support to round off the team
I'm very glad Wigglytuff is my favourite pokemon, because I've been playing her since day one, and seeing as tuff exists to hinder the enemy team, it gave me much more insight into teamwork, positioning, etc than if I started with a carry and just thought "click buttons, do damage". Starting out with a supporter or defender is fantastic advice!
I recently started playing Comfey. Makes my teammate a beast, lets me heal and stun, and removes me from being a hard target. Started to win games again and broke into the next tier while also letting me learn how other people play (and how not to play) dps units. Downside is some players seem to think having me on them makes them able to initiate a 1v2/3 while low hp. I mean, nice that they have the confidence in me but please don't get us killed. If my partner dies then 9 out of 10 times my brittle ass isn't going to survive the 2+ very angry 'mons looking to rearrange my flowers.
The Watchmen joke has a pun. It's funny. Part 1: I agree with a lot of the stuff Jake says. I think the last time I got stuck on Ultra, Krashy made a video about winrate and positive impact. Basically the message was about "being solid and basic" I am currently stuck between 1400-1450, so might heed towards this advice and go back to basics, I suppose. 0:52 Jake: MOBA is quite difficult. Me: Wow that's a relief. I thought all the people in Pokemon Unite are smarter and more able than me. Thank you Jake, for validating that I am not a dumb and crazy person. 1:20 I do all of that, but on casual mode as experiments. Part 2: Also this is my tip for other people who don't know, during mon selection if you are the lowest in your team roster bars, that means the people above you usually have a better experience of carrying the game. Vice versa applies. 2:27 Here are my thoughts on the Pokemon listed and how I feel about them: Venusaur: I struggle with it Blastoise: struggle Pikachu: struggle Clefable: not available Wigglytuff: pretty good consistently Machamp: not available, but gained more recent respect as time grow, most likely will buy it in near future Slowbro: struggle very hard Blissey: struggle super hard (surprise!) Mr Mime: struggle, but willing to learn more about it Snorlax: struggle very hard (mere roadbloack/meat shield during unite, so struggle most during unite) Azumarill: super struggle (surprise again!) Mamoswine: heavily favored but performance is in between (usually need a second defender to safely peel, so didn't play it as much recently) Glaceon: needs significant practice, but can see the potential in mastering it Crustle: theoretically can master it (non-goal getter version btw), but needs significant practice Trevenant: pretty decent sometimes but not running horn leech (nightmarish like Mamo's Horsepower move, the self CC is too scary to deal with, I am not dealing with that) Hoopa: not available Eldegoss: struggle super hard (surprise surprise) (surprisingly fan favorites Blissey, Azu and Elde I struggled with the most, especially Azu and Elde's design are my most hated, only comfortable with Mamo, Wiggly and Glaceon) 5:07 Jake: Stacking is advanced. Me: Thank you Jake. I tend to being criticized for not playing stacking. I am just not used to stacking stuff. Too much to worry. I tend to get distracted to finish basics when I worry about other stuff. Part 3: I feel like Defenders and Supporters in nature their damage is way too low to be even somewhat aggressive during fights, like you need to be completely passive, and if some random in your team mess up, you unbeknowingly took the hit despite not deterring the team, so in my belief, I feel like Jake recommending purely Defenders/Supporters is not the best advice. Most of the time it works, but playing any all rounder also works well, especially if enemies fight you without you provoking them, you can at least fight back. I usually watch helplessly as Slowbro but at least Aegi gives me a lot of breathing room. Aegislash: Favorite all rounder, stole Ray thrice, also unlike Defenders/Supporters, gives breathing room to fight back. Cramorant: Took a strange liking, personal highest damage record (65k in winter remoat). Part 4: My personal belief is rotating between All-Rounder/Supporters depending on team comp, while occasionally throwing Defenders in the mix if another random wants to play Defender as well. But you know, as long as you are contributing, anything works in Unite I suppose.
Another tip DO NOT follow the Game.8 tier list or ANY tier list for that matter I mean you CAN do that go ahead if you want too but a Pokemon being in SS tier DOESNT matter a mon can be very strong and rules the meta but just because it does that doesn't mean it fits your playstyle As a wise (surprisingly not garbage) Karen once said "Strong Pokémon. Weak Pokémon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled Trainers should try to win with the Pokémon they love best."
I can say from personal experience and getting solo to master every season, this is very accurate, I've been a decidueye main since he dropped and you have to learn when to make plays in a match. Back-Cap is no good heavy agreed, Talonflame, Sableye, and the likes are very common to back-Cap so watch those because sometimes it's just a free KO if they can't escape
You say back capping is so no good, but referred to yourself as a decidueye main in the previous sentence 🤦 I'd rather have a back capper on my team than a decidieye. At least back cappers can be useful lol
Talonflame fly is good for sniping Ray. And Sableye is a good sniper since he is invisible, especially when his unite is charged and when only one or two opponents are fighting, confuse ray can easily snipe Ray if used well. Noobs just don't know how to play.
As a duo rank player that plays with my S.O. I've noticed Supports and Tanks can be your carry for the team. Personally, I tend to play whatever is needed but again Supports and Defenders are never a bad choice. We've had awful luck where our big players will literally give up and troll if they don't get the results they want at the halfway mark. As someone who can and will play whatever, it is FRUSTRATING to see someone take current Meta powerhouses and just do nothing with them while the rest of the team struggles to even defend against the enemy team. Also, please please PLEASE don't take a new pokemon or one you haven't played into ranked lol. Quick matches and standard are there for the experimentation and learning.
Very informative. Interestingly I find I need to play carry Pokemon in the lower ranks at the start of the season, in Veteran etc then once I get to Masters to keep winning I start playing Defenders or Supporters. I think this is because of how my level fits into that of my fellow players, at the lowers ranks it seems I'll generally be one of the better players on the team but then at Masters with more skillful players I can't have as big of an impact using a carry Pokemon and feel like I am more effective/win more with a supporting Pokemon and leaving the carrying to better players.
Actually very true this season I had trouble climbing up was always struck in ultra rank 3,2,1. So backtracked and started picking defenders and it helped a lot! Few days back I finally reached master rank!
Eldegoss is such a good Pokémon. It teaches amazing team fight fundamentals, and has enough attack power to give you that dopamine kick. I run pollen puff and cotton guard. My items are muscle band, buddy barrier, xp share, x attack. I run 7 red, 4 white, 2 green for emblems. I climbed ranked with this build.
Something to also remember, level up your held items. That’s probably essential to higher win rates. I climbed solo que ranked as a Clefable main into Masters after I leveled my special attack held items to 30.
I been stuck in Ultra rank. It just seems like my team doesn’t work together like they did a few months ago. I’ve lost the past like 10 ranked games because my team is all over the map doing whatever they want.
As a Defender main, THANK YOU for recommending newbies against playing Attackers. Climbing Ranked was hell this season for me because of the horrid insta-lock Attackers/Speedsters who would end up having less damage and kills than me as Mamoswine. Not joking, I had a 5-loss streak as Mamoswine where I was the MVP every single time. I have definitely won with 4 Attackers/Speedsters on my team before but those people knew the limitations and strengths of their characters inside out, had excellent macro game and map awareness and showed up at every objective. I get it, every one wants to be the main character - but if you don’t understand how to carry a game using your role, please, for the love of god, play something more forgiving. Your Defenders/Supporters want to help you, but you make it hard you don’t understand your power spikes. If I sound dramatic, it’s because my Ranked win rate for this season is downright embarrassing. Maining Defender while trying to climb in the late season in solo queue is literal hell.
I just began playing last season with 2 weeks left in, and while I made it into Ultra then the difficulty spike the following season was huge. When I started I thought the solution to my issue would be hard carries, and only recently have I learned what you're explainin in this video: Supporters and defenders are much more reliable to climb with. Carries are great and fun, but too difficult to expect to do great every game with.
Learn 3 characters in and out: a defender, a supporter, and a carry. Your teammates will almost always be attackers/speedsters and it's your job to fill, or balance out the team comp in whatever role is lacking.
Only time I think back capping is good (or rather, only feasible choice) is when there're 20 seconds left and you know you can't get Rayquaza and score on time. Other than this very specific case, never ever ever back cap. Oh also, never ever use Goal Getter for "mainly go score" strategy. You would rather have the team win than only you get to score and lose anyways.
Another thing that happens in vet-ultra a lot, at least for me, is teams always try to get Rayquaza even when they don't need to and end up losing the objective. Should the winning team be trying to defend Rayquaza in this situation if the team that is behind is trying to secure it?
Loved the tips on stacking because I tend to find myself wanting to get all my stacks in so I can be useful the rest of the game but after these tips looks like I gotta change my tactics around 😅
Man that back capping thing has been killing my games. I play trio and we don’t usually jungle (though our sylveon often hypercaries). I can’t tell you how often we are at ray and our jungler is off backcapping. It’s been happening in like EVERY game.
They’ve probably seen some creator doing it in a video and they think they can emulate it without understanding the reasoning behind it. “Cris does it so that means it’s always THE PLAY”
One thing I can’t stress enough is. If you fall behind focus on farming and catching levels. It’s ok to loose early as long as you can catch up by the end. Play smart if you are dying a lot early. Don’t go too far and stay close to your goals and farm
Just started Unite a few weeks ago, and Eldegoss is definitely a very great Pokemon. Maybe because I’m used playing support in other MOBA, but currently I still have that 100% winrate with her.
Would LOVE to see you make a video to enlighten some of the MaStEr RaNk players that they're actually not good but just got lucky or carried through rank by others. I don't wanna deal with lane Cinderace, goal getter Zeraora, exp. share Mime, or 3 junglers in matches anymore.
I was struggling to get out of expert a couple months ago. I just came back in October after not playing since last september. I was playing Cramorant, who was a good pokemon at launch. I didn't realize it was nerfed so much So then I swapped to Mew. And I did great! I have 60%+ win rate with it. But I just couldn't climb any higher than veteran despite playing Mew really well. When Mew got double nerfed, I swapped to Mammoswine. And BOY was it a game changer. In master 1000 right now, and I have a 67% win rate with Mammo right now. Just feels like it was made for me I've picked up a couple other characters like Dodrio, Scyther, and Clefable. Scyther is at 62% win rate, Dodrio is 56%, Clefable is 55%. Dodrio and Clefable feel *too* team reliant, at least Scyther and Mammo can rock it without team support. Hopefully Mew can make a comeback though, I miss it dearly. It's just not good in its current state I'll send this video to some friends of mine!
The best advice I got in mobas was find one or two characters who operate similarly and one trick them until you learn the deeper mechanics of the game then spread your game sense to new characters
I think my problem is I'm playing Pokémon that I play very well, but they're difficult to pair with, so my veteran class teammates don't know what to do with it (ex. i main surf blastoise)
I made it to masters 1600 playing 95% of the time support / defender in solo que (playing pikachu when there where too many defenders / supporters in the team already). So it definitly works! I personally like to play solo to rank up as with a 2-3 stack I tend to loose much more as the opposing team also will have the same 2-3 stack which feels like it is much better coordinated most of the time.
Hey Spragels,i hope you are doing ok,i watched this video and tried applying those tips you talked about in ranked...after a lot of losses, matches to avoid demotion and effort i finally reached masters, thank you for doing this kind of videos that can really help players
WTF 'Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?' which is the original quote in Latin for "who watches the watchmen" and is my life Motto atm. Was not expecting it as a throwaway intro joke haha. Anyway, I'm not really hard stuck, slowly climbing out getting 1-2 wins here and there with the odd loss. I've been mostly maining Venasaur and occasionally playing Zacian with some success. I use your Venasaur build and it's really helped me secure a lot of kills. Petal dance is a must. Either way this video has been really interesting and informative.
blissy could give everyone the helping hand and soft boil giving my team invincible tank of not dying just from staying alive we all had that problem even me so i go support anyone play those pokemon it will help them as is help me
This video is cool man 😎. It was hard climbing to masters but there I saw some incredible unite battles, recently. Only today I discovered that attack weight stacking and it was really good but I have been playing it for 1 year😅
My problem climbing ranked is I usually get 1 to 2 afks every couple of matches that throw the game. One step forward one step back constantly. Currently in the middle classes of Ultra and pretty demotivated to play ranked right now. It's been so bad. I do usually play attackers but I do usually carry but sometimes it just isn't enough when we are so outnumbered, especially at the end. I wish the matchmaking would stop giving me these people that keep going AFK. It might be related to MMR scores - usually Duo with my daughter and we have 64% and 67% win rates and we most often get paired with people around 50% or sub 50%... "Carry or die" lol...
The biggest issue I have playing only defenders and supports is that everyone ignores the free exp Pokemon on our side of that map and it takes so long for me to do it, so I'm never sure if I should be clearing them or sticking with the team. Or maybe just stay away from things like Blissey that are especially awful at clearing?
Thank you for these videos, I been stuck at expert for like, forever, I play solo q and it’s just, so frustrating being one game away from climbing rank and lose I genuinely had to sit down and take breaks from playing because I just been having like, 3-5 losing streaks, which has led me to almost not touch ranked matches and just do quick plays or standard Everyone should watch your videos because oh my god I cannot fathom how some people are even in this rank
I kinda disagree in playing supporter in Vet and Expert rank. I am a support main btw in every game that I play but I decided to change my role since I notice a lot of players who suck as a carry in low elo, and it was hard for me to rank up as a support, whether it's on my team or the enemy. Which is why I decided to switch roles like speedster and attacker so that I could stomp them and climb by way to master. Which works.
At the very low ranks and in bot matches, playing a healer is rough. I can't tell you the amount of times I've had allies basically kiting me while I'm trying to give them an egg. Just come close, let me heal you, then we can 2 v 1 the enemy. Why are you running? Why are you running? Fortunately, once you hit Ultra, those players drop off considerably.
It’s important to know that playing for mvp isn’t what wins games, playing to win games wins games, you don’t have to have the highest damage taken/given/heals but if you do it when it matters it ultimately means more than the grenija who got 10 kills but ignored ray and back caped 30 points
Secret Tip for climbing rank, just win. Jokes apart, just play with meta pokemon and correct item, not standing in Team Fights that never ends. Make goals on another base if enemy team is all on same lane.
I would recommend saving the Pokemon you're trying to learn how to play for casual matches. Only play Pokemon you're familiar with and used to. Ranked is a place for experience, and while it's tempting to bring that new Pokemon you're excited to use into battle, you can cost your team the game if you can't play them properly yet. Know when and where to practice with a Pokemon. You will make it to ranked matches with them, but you need to take the time and patience to learn. I experienced this with Tyrannitar. Also, go into the game knowing that you will lose and be humbly prepared to accept defeat. When you do lose, calm down and take the time to think about how you played. Sometimes your team doesn't do its job, this is true! However, you may have made crucial mistakes as well! Be willing to look for and admit your own faults and it makes the game much more relaxing and fun to play. Remember, in the end, it's only just a game
I play jungler cuz i get frustrated in lame cuz 90% of unite players have no idea about rotation, timing and objectives and chase kills and meagre goals once i learnt jungle i learnt almost evey team i go against doesnt know how to jungle and i just snowball like crazy. Personally my jingle carries are buzzwole, urshifu, machamp and yes surprising i know but zacian. As a junglee you can get him to level 8 quicker and his damage feels like 50% of what he used to feel like pre nerf
I've been an Eldegoss main since launch and getting through Vet-Ultra is a painful slog. If a team needs a support to fill it out, then its logically a sound choice, but maining a support in the early ranks is brutal. I've spent entire seasons going from Ultra 5-1 back and forth The worst part being that once you hit masters, Matchmaking gets soooooo much better, especially for supports. My personal two cents would be to properly fill out your team comp, and hang with your lane partner, even if they aren't doing a stellar job and as long as they're not stealing enemy jungle or something silly, having the extra damage (and hp sponge) will keep you alive in fights. Also, ROTATE! Another meta advice is that quitting bot matches doesn't count against you and doesnt take away fairplay points, so if you lose unfortunately lose Ray and get washed by the bots, you can just close the game and try again before the match ends. Been getting a lot of bot matches this season so those matches will definitely add up. Just make sure you know how to identify them!
@@scarlettheart3029 You can identify bots pretty easily these days. Your team will consist of the same few pokemon and they always use the same few held items (like mime with exp share), nobody will call lane (if someone calls lane, you're almost definitely NOT in a bot match). On the loading screen, if you look at the trainer cards, everyone is basically in the same pose, just rotated differently. All they ping is the occasional Retreat! Their pathing is really messed up in the jungle too. These days, the enemy bots don't flip ray as well as they used to, so imo losing a bot game out of some rotten luck is much less frequent, but you can still quit out and not get penalized.
I dedicated myself to master Tsareena while climbing and 2 seasons ago I ended up stuck in Ultra 4 and 3, last season I started to try and branch out with different pokemon like Eldegoss, Blastoise, Greninja, Scizor and Venusaur but still only managed to get into Ultra 2 and 1 and can't for the life of me hit Veteran after 3-4 weeks playing. Now, this season, I started to only just playing Slowbro, and play the other characters in a different game modes if I get bored and I'm currently Veteran 3, and hope to climb to master. I recently gotten Mr Mime and currently try to see whether I'm confident enough to also use it to climb the rank
I've started the game about a week ago and already reached Master. I played a hundred games to get there playing mostly Machamp, Venusaur, Cinderace & Slowbro. It was tough but really fun.
Some useful tips I learned along the way: - Top objective (Regieleki/Rotom) is not everything in the match. Sure, it can make your team destroy a goal in a matter of seconds but is not worth it sometimes. Top objective is very valuable if tier 2 goal is open or non existent. Otherwise, bot objective always give a team wide EXP burst and a buff that could be helpful (especially Registeel's). - If the Regieleki/Rotom is won and many of the opponents died contesting it, unless it is the tier one goal or is not past the 5min mark, it usually it's not worth pushing it since by the time it reaches the goal, all the team is there full health and on base so it will be extremely difficult to have it walk in. It's best to use it as a divertion to score on bot lane. - Know at which time marks some farms spawns in early game. Contesting that EXP is the true early game if you're not going for stacks. - Know when a fight is worth the fight. If you're alone against 2-3+ enemies, is not worth it. In early game, if the enemy is not overextended or you don't have your jungler ready for the gank, don't engage. If your jungler is getting invaded, by all means, go help; 1 (usually from the lane the invader is not at) or 1 per lane suffice to get rid of the pest. I think knowing this helps for turning table at some point in a match.
I had a game yeterday where my whole team didn't give a crap about bottom objective (which was Registeel. TWICE). Uh... am I the only one who cares about the nice attack & sp. attack buff Registeel provides? Personally, I don't care about the other two regis. Their buffs are still good, but Registeel takes the cake. Like, even CPU players know to go for Registeel if it appears (believe me. As someone who's just been relaxing in CPU matches, I would know from experience).
@@ToadetteTails6969 in terms of buffs, Registeel is the one that gives more value but, the team wide EXP is always a better reward than a Regieleki that may or not walk in. In the end, the EXP is what win the games. It would be nice if the other Regis gave more value. Like how about if Regirock gave a score shield? Or Regice gave a health shield. It would definitely make them more worth while to fight for those too and a huge incentive for people to fight bot objective.
Good to see the other jakes getting more screentime again :D And nice video i just got to master duoing with my buddy but now hes stuck in ultra and we need to do more synergie lanes together but then we get trios and they're bottom tier bad and the enemy trio+duo feel like they didn't do anything else in unite than playing super synergie pokemon like a mime buzz lane destroyed us with cc yesterday and its infuriating
Hey Jake, just want to let you know that I did what you adviced and it worked! I am surprised that I still did not know of so many things even while being a player of Pokemon unite for around 6 months. You got my mistakes exactly correct and my main mistake was using Pokemon like Dodrio or Lucario. I now stopped using Pokemon like that and used Blissey with Focus band, buddy barrier and score shield and I actually won! Thanks for all the advice Jake this wouldn't have been possible for me without you :)
I mostly agree with your take on roles & climbing. Mr mime ranks fine as do most defenders but the time I first got to ultra I used decidueye and it was like sending a toddler to a war zone
I Have Already Mastered Greninja Be Cause I Thought If I Play Him From Start when I Got Him I Can Get A Hang Of It And It's Pretty Hard To Master But If You Use It From Start You Can Be Good. Also Many People Think Surf Smokescreen Is Hot Garbage But Really It's Not.
I would say that carrying/hyper-carrying is actually the easiest way to rank up. It's also worth bearing in mind that you don't have to play jungle, or a conventional carry like Cinderace or Greninja to carry games. The benefit of playing a carry/hyper carry is that you are far less dependant on your team, compared to if you are playing as a defender or supporter. A carry can decide games on it's own, a defender or supporter provides opportunities for teammates to capitalise on, and is very reliant on them doing so. None of that is to say that you can't rank up or even carry to some extent with defenders and supporters. Playing a double stack build on something like Crustle or Mamoswine can turn you into a mean carry. And supporters like Eldegoss are ironically so good at defending, that you can literally shut off an entire lane with it, and it has great secure. You can even carry games with Hoopa, but you have to be very proficient with it. For lower ranks though, you're probably best off avoiding supporters. If you're claiming to be 'hard stuck' in veteran though... I'm sorry but, you're probably not as good at the game as you think you are.
Learn to use mamo when your team is squishy and elde when your team is bulky. Pick an all arounder also instead of your whole team being attackers and speedsters. Dont lane with squishies and if someone calls jungle first give it up.
So I have been making Scyther in the center and it's rough. I do have a good win rate but I think it's kinda what you mentioned, people like to play attackers and Scyther is an assassin who pops attackers. Committing to an engagement with x attack, double jump, wing beat, wing beat dash, reactivate ult does a ridiculous amount of damage. I cannot do that to big chungus like slow bro, Snorlax or mamoswine and they just ruin engagement for me. Two thing I'm working on for myself. Don't under estimate how painful it is to gap close as a melee on a ranged character especially since most of them have a way to either push you back or dodge back. Finally don't underestimate the slow down when you dive past a goal. I don't know how many times a squishy character runs away or kites and kills me because I hit that slow down and I lose what seems like half my movement speed. Good luck and have fun to all! Remember it's a game and if you're not having fun it's not worth your time! Yeehaw !
I’ve seen some people disagree with playing supporters or defenders and while it is true that you can climb easier with carries, if you are STUCK in rank and playing a carry then you are not playing the right Pokémon for you.
The stuck part is what I kind of overlooked in my comment, no hard feelings 😄
Facts
Sounds like mlbb...
At least play classic matches man. Quick matches arent fun when youre playing them every single day.

My heart says to do it but my brain tells me it’s not worth it and I’m gonna put me and possibly my team in danger with no chance of escaping
Learning to play Supp/Tank is useful imo as it actually teaches you to play as team and not focus too much on "killing" and have wider view to the match as a whole..is it easy? Nah, it is painful sometimes, but personally, it helps me a lot
Totally agree. When you aren’t focused solely on getting KOs, you actually take time to learn the macro of the game.
Then again, we all remember Mr. Mime's reign of terror…
Sometimes you *_do_* support by killing the other team.
Now, if you're Clefable, you support the _other_ team by being completely useless.
@@idunnowhatimdoin Don't do my child like that
Moonlight's heal is incredibly potent
heyyy i made that comment *_before_* the buffs haha
Moonlight is still effective before the buff mostly for teamfight
Good call
Defenders nit getting added in the game
Last defender was released a year ago i.e. January 2021 was trevenant
umbreon is a new defender
Tips-
Try to main an all-rounder or defender
Use the correct held items
Watch the gameplay of other pros
Learn how to pull the combos of your Pokemon
Don't go attacker or Speedster in an all attacker/Speedster team
Use correct emblems
Give priority to objectives
Don't play for MVP play for victory
Yeah . But in here all 5 attackers opposing team kicks our butt every time😭 . In ranked matches
Drain crown gave this attackers sustain so they don't need support or tank in their lineup.
@@GenJuhru Drain crown is not a good idea as to get even 10k healing you need to do 100k damage with basic attacks playing tank or support is a much better idea
@@im1260 high attack speed & crits, the heals just adds up. I'm also a defender main(for now), using mons with versatile cc.

Positioning advice is really good. Knowing not to over extend yourself, knowing how to pick your fights, not be a front-line squishy etc etc.
this is probably one of the MOST important parts of the game, too many games have been lost due to over-pushing
Very true
My team will always be asshole and fighting outside wasting , so i go opposite side and Try to goal so at least these idiots keep them busy
1 pokemon on base can handle 2 pokemon that attack, 2 on base handle 3, 3 handle 4...
when players don't even come to steal eleki or even to defend it what should I do in such scenarios?
@@riteshparab4033 depends of so many factors, wich pokemon are you playing, what items, what teamates, what enemies?
Just know that even if a game seems lost, you just have to farm to have a chance to win at rayquaza.
Spragel is like the rare teacher that makes you have no lesson for 4 periods but still good at teaching and make the students achieve greater grades. Thank you for helping us Spragels :D
Haha thank you
For reals! Great analogy.
You forgot to mention not attacking Rayquaza when you're winning. I lost a game the other day because the Crustle defender decided to attack Rayquaza even though we were winning, and they weren't ready to defend the team so two of us got KO'd and the other team quickly outnumbered us.
Don't forget to have fun! Winning and climbing is nice, but if you aren't having fun with the game even casually, it may be time for a break!
I got stuck in Ultra with Tsareena for most of last season and these were the things I fixed to get to Masters no problem this season:
1. Stopped pushing with regieleki
2. Switched to Azu when my team looked weak early-game
3. Stopped trying to save teammates and defend goals when I was obviously outmatched
4. Farmed more, fought less
I learned a ton from spragels, inder, toonslim, and stevemycat and playing smarter makes a huge difference!
I was stuck in veteran before...but thanks to our spragels.... U helped me alot..i am in ultra trying really hard to make it to master
Nice!!!!
this is actually really helpful though its one year ago
i was stuck in veteran class 5, and i watched the whole video and decided to buy trevenant, now im winning all my games in a row and actually contributing in helping my teammates. thank you so, so much spragels, couldnt have ranked up without you
Really nice video, Jake.
Backcapping random teammates have always been one of the main reasons why I always lose, I hate them.
I always dislike it when I get a stacking partner that tries too hard to get their stacks and constantly dies. Not to be prejudiced, but almost every Machop partner I get is like this. I always try to avoid laning with Machop lol.
"Playing a little PacMan" is such a perfect way to explain farming wow. Great vid.
You’re very welcome
Mime has done more for me than any pokemon before and is in my opinion one of the simplest pokemon out there
@@FranciscoGonzalez-ux3sd nothing can be simpler than a Pikachu.
Understanding how every character works will make u better at attacking/defending against them too
One thing that helps me when I get hard stuck at various rank levels is hard focusing on team comp; I only play solo queue so every single team is obvs different.
Playing defenders/supports is legit advice. Spamming scaldbro was my ticket into masters when I was new.
The double h at “hhi Jake…” is way too accurate
I know it's not a TON but I have over 700 games played and this video was still a nice reminder. Appreciate it
I recently started playing Comfey.
This season I’m taking a break from rank… I always enjoy playing unite, but lately I don’t feel motivated to rank up, it’s good to take a break.
I'm playing a lot of Scarlet. I'll be back eventually.
2:27 Here are my thoughts on the Pokemon listed and how I feel about them:
Venusaur: I struggle with it
Blastoise: struggle
Pikachu: struggle
Clefable: not available
Wigglytuff: pretty good consistently
Machamp: not available, but gained more recent respect as time grow, most likely will buy it in near future
Slowbro: struggle very hard
Blissey: struggle super hard (surprise!)
Mr Mime: struggle, but willing to learn more about it
Snorlax: struggle very hard (mere roadbloack/meat shield during unite, so struggle most during unite)
Azumarill: super struggle (surprise again!)
Mamoswine: heavily favored but performance is in between
(usually need a second defender to safely peel, so didn't play it as much recently)
Glaceon: needs significant practice, but can see the potential in mastering it
Crustle: theoretically can master it (non-goal getter version btw), but needs significant practice
Trevenant: pretty decent sometimes but not running horn leech
(nightmarish like Mamo's Horsepower move, the self CC is too scary to deal with, I am not dealing with that)
Hoopa: not available
Eldegoss: struggle super hard (surprise surprise)
(surprisingly fan favorites Blissey, Azu and Elde I struggled with the most,
especially Azu and Elde's design are my most hated, only comfortable with Mamo, Wiggly and Glaceon)
5:07 Jake: Stacking is advanced.
Another tip
DO NOT follow the Game.8 tier list or ANY tier list for that matter
I mean you CAN do that go ahead if you want too but a Pokemon being in SS tier DOESNT matter a mon can be very strong and rules the meta but just because it does that doesn't mean it fits your playstyle
As a wise (surprisingly not garbage) Karen once said "Strong Pokémon.
@@ChodyRay nah man, backcappers are the reason why the winning team lose at ray
Teeds and spragels uploading at the SAME TIME!! hahaha
Actually very true this season I had trouble climbing up was always struck in ultra rank 3,2,1. So backtracked and started picking defenders and it helped a lot!
Few days back I finally reached master rank!
Congrats!
"absol...absolutely not"

Loved the tips on stacking because I tend to find myself wanting to get all my stacks in so I can be useful the rest of the game but after these tips looks like I gotta change my tactics around 😅
Yeah stacking is rough unless your lane partner knows what to do
Man that back capping thing has been killing my games. I play trio and we don’t usually jungle (though our sylveon often hypercaries). I can’t tell you how often we are at ray and our jungler is off backcapping. It’s been happening in like EVERY game.
Back capping is so destructive
They’ve probably seen some creator doing it in a video and they think they can emulate it without understanding the reasoning behind it.
“Cris does it so that means it’s always THE PLAY”
thats because everybody wnats to be the hero, and not part of the team, owell
@@noncandeggiare Ineffective strategy. What if a Sabeleye or Greedent suddenly comes in and wrecks it? What if we lose Rayquaza to our enemies?
@@spragels I could imagine why.
One thing I can’t stress enough is. If you fall behind focus on farming and catching levels. It’s ok to loose early as long as you can catch up by the end. Play smart if you are dying a lot early. Don’t go too far and stay close to your goals and farm
Lmao! That opening! And you added a gumball episode reference??!! Absolutely hilarious 🤣🤣
Just started Unite a few weeks ago, and Eldegoss is definitely a very great Pokemon. Maybe because I’m used playing support in other MOBA, but currently I still have that 100% winrate with her.
Jake 6 has improved this channel by so much! Not that it needed it, but what an amazing touch.
I've seen a few jungle zeraora in my climb. And while I play with a duo... we use elde and dragonite. It works surprisingly well
Thank you! This guide was extremely helpful. I got to Master Rank in SoloQ with a 60% win rate overall and 71% win rate with Venusaur.
I didn't realize it was nerfed so much
So then I swapped to Mew. Just feels like it was made for me
I've picked up a couple other characters like Dodrio, Scyther, and Clefable. Scyther is at 62% win rate, Dodrio is 56%, Clefable is 55%. Dodrio and Clefable feel *too* team reliant, at least Scyther and Mammo can rock it without team support. Hopefully Mew can make a comeback though, I miss it dearly. It's just not good in its current state
I'll send this video to some friends of mine!
Same i just came back this month
The best advice I got in mobas was find one or two characters who operate similarly and one trick them until you learn the deeper mechanics of the game then spread your game sense to new characters
This is solid advice! I was actually looking to make a vid about this
I think my problem is I'm playing Pokémon that I play very well, but they're difficult to pair with, so my veteran class teammates don't know what to do with it (ex. i main surf blastoise)
My Guy your Advice actually worked, I'M IN MASTERS NOW, after the video it took me 5 days but it was all worth it. Thank you so much 🙏🥰
Love this
Hey Spragels,i hope you are doing ok,i watched this video and tried applying those tips you talked about in ranked...after a lot of losses, matches to avoid demotion and effort i finally reached masters, thank you for doing this kind of videos that can really help players
Thank you for these videos, I been stuck at expert for like, forever, I play solo q and it’s just, so frustrating being one game away from climbing rank and lose
I genuinely had to sit down and take breaks from playing because I just been having like, 3-5 losing streaks, which has led me to almost not touch ranked matches and just do quick plays or standard
Everyone should watch your videos because oh my god I cannot fathom how some people are even in this rank
A year ago, everyone said if you have trouble climbing play carries so you don't have to rely on your team
Secret Tip for climbing rank, just win.
Jokes apart, just play with meta pokemon and correct item, not standing in Team Fights that never ends. Make goals on another base if enemy team is all on same lane.
Man I just love Jakes comedy intros !!!!
I can’t believe you used the Vanessa clip for backcapping. A moment in history
Hella late, but can you give me an example if you facing a bot match? I'd be so damn happy dominating a match only to see that the opponent is a bot
3:25 Sableye... if it clicks for you, then go right ahead! Annoy the enemy so much you accidentally become the tank of the team
Can agree with most this advice. I haven't struggled being stuck personally but a big part that I think was left out is rotating and order.
Thank you for this banger of a video. I might try to go back to my support roots and see how it goes.
See you space cowboy.
Some useful tips I learned along the way:
- Top objective (Regieleki/Rotom) is not everything in the match.
Good to see the other jakes getting more screentime again :D
And nice video i just got to master duoing with my buddy but now hes stuck in ultra and we need to do more synergie lanes together but then we get trios and they're bottom tier bad and the enemy trio+duo feel like they didn't do anything else in unite than playing super synergie pokemon like a mime buzz lane destroyed us with cc yesterday and its infuriating
You have to be one of the best content creators for this game, if not the best. Clear, entertaining, direct, efficient… I really enjoy your content.
Thanks for this amazing video I'm currently stuck in veteran and I'm hope this video help
Yeehaw !
4:54 just to make sure defender you don't need KO you need assistance you already on spotlight
