Never been a WW reader but I’m jumping in on this one, I really liked the issue. And so far it doesn’t feel like they’re trying too hard to make her an “edgy” Diana, the changes to her character make sense.
The last page in the issue 1:24 is a synopsis/ad for Absolute WW and it says “She had been a gift to them from the goddesses for their good works (1,000 years of protecting the world of men, among other things), and barely a year later Diana was taken from the Amazons as punishment for their "bad" works.” This description pretty much confirms she was made from clay by presumably Hippolyta but imbued with life/power by Artemis, Athena, Hestia, Demeter, Hera, and maybe Hecate.
I recall WW's origin in 1960's comics, I'm 70years old, Diana was blessed by several Greek goddesses at birth as well as given speed by Hermes and strength by Hercules.
I like that they are careful with the changes they make in the Absolute universe. They are radical and huge, but you can mostly follow the steps and logic behind them. You still recognize the character even if they are different.
Literally what I always wanted her to be canon. Usually they just show her magic side by making her resistant to magic, or having magical weaponry. THIS is how you tie in a warrior and mystics.
This WW impressed. This Absolute Universe makes me wonder if they'll be committed to keeping them distinct from their prime versions or if it'll be a build up to matching their personas.
You are so REAL for calling Gal Gadot what she is. So many comic book channels skip over that aspect when discussing her in movie speculation. And the Absolute Universe is turning out to be the most interesting thing in comics as of recently. Wish X-Men was cooking harder but we’ll see.

The one that sticks out most to me is “ultra boy” which would be a good one… this new Universe has no restriction when it comes to past present or future characters so why not? Have an ultra-beast crash on earth and make a human ultra boy, or girl out of some science experiment or accident… Cyborg would be a good one instead of him being an accident make him a biocybernetic alien with Amazo-type ability or like Bastion from x men 97 human-sentinel hybrid... Makes me wish I was a comic creator with the ideas I would want to see
I agree with your assessment of Absolute Wonder Woman #1. It was an excellent read with fantastic art. Well done. It is a very interesting take on the character. I had to chuckle when you mentioned the Wonder Woman movie theme music. Because I agree. As I read the book, the theme popped up in my head and I agree it is more fitting to this version of the character.

Absolute Wonder Woman is the BEST of the Absolute titles thus far! Absolute Superman is good. Absolute Batman is way over hyped! I am speaking as a comic book nerd, who works in a comic book store!

At first I was playing with the idea that Diana is Zeus's child and Zeus's family has a history of children killing their father and taking his power, however the writer states that Diana is not Zeus's daughter. Then I remembered that the gods also have a history of trying to kill children that are prophecied to kill them, however by doing so that what makes sure the prophecy comes true.

Loved this issue it's the best thing that Thompson has written in the 2020's &the only negative about this comic is't even a thing; it's a mad nitpick but when Wonder Woman called herself the Princess of Hell, that annoyed me. Cuz unless Circe is the Queen of Hell then Dianna can't be its princess but who knows, it just bothered me cuz that speech was hard but that line made me stop &do a double take. Only real complaint is the faces &why Wonder Woman isn't at least cute, the faces are ugly but the artist was hired to draw action &monsters so I hope that's where the comic stays. This was easily better than Absolute Batman so I can't wait to read this next issue
