About how "you surround yourself with inferior gems so you can be the top of the losers" while she's constantly rambling on about how perfect she is & has to be for the sake of providing a beacon for all to aspire to? She's putting the flaws she sees on herself on PD, and by extension Steven. She even mentions how Pink is a part of her she has to repress, because she attributes these weaknesses to her, since they only came out in the moments of levity brought about by her

The end seemed kind of rushed. I think more time should have been invested in exploring the dynamic between white and that second pink steven. The core of whites narcissism is her absolute power, and that was legitimately challenged by that pink Steven.

Also notice that in the end at Rose's fountain, the Diamonds are positioned to match the Diamond Authority insignia. But Steven isn't positioned in PD's place; instead, the statue of Rose Quartz is there, which represents how PD really is gone.

Makes me wonder how powerful Steven really is. He's soft-hearted, not even wanting to hurt his enemies, plus his relative inexperience, makes me think, if he ever lost control or his temper, he could do some MAJOR damage. I don't think White Diamond's shock was because of Gem Steven's outburst, but by the power of his outburst.

Obsidian was basically a reference to Kali, the many armed Hindu goddess of destruction and motherly-love. Weird combination of mythological themes, but very appropriate for Steven Universe.

Maybe they didn't show it because it's turned to be in the position of Pink Diamond instead of Rose Quarts, This showing that everything has kind of come full circle with everything. Also I'd like to see Steven's powers get stronger with him having this orientation of his gem and how strong his mother actually was after this episode. Though, like with his other powers, it comes slowly as to not hurt him in the processes.

Pink Steven yelling "she's gone" made me think of the It's Over Isn't It line "she chose you and she loved you and she's gone." In the echo of the whole "she's gone" thing you can hear Lion's roar, which also made me think of Bismuth saying something like "roar back at them in their language."
You'd not BELIEVE how many videos there are of Pearl singing that song and replacing that line with Pink Steven's shout, or vice versa. It's GREAT

Does anyone else think that the reason that White Pearl ( originally Pink Pearl) is partially cracked is because she ''cracked'' under the pressure of always needing to be perfect for White Diamond? I'm only thinking that because of how Yellow Diamond said that any gem could crack under such pressure and the only reason they haven't yet is because they're Diamonds (unlike Pearl) when attempting to talk to White Diamond about how they were all feeling, but I could be wrong

I've considered this as well, but it would only reinforce the "Steven is Pink" train of thought even though this episode establishes that he really and truly isn't. However, if Rebecca Sugar decided to return it back to Pink's position I'd be for it. It'd feel like a homage to his mom.

I believe paridot's new look is heavily inspired by pearls, amethyst and garnets old costumes. I also think that the reason she has so many stars on her is because she is definitely a crystal gem now
I am going to point out something that most likely other people have already noticed. BUT, remember when Rose Quartz left that video for Steven and she says "I'm going to become half of you." it seems like Pink Steven is the result of that. So Rose wasn't speaking metaphorically, it was literal. Pink Steven says "She's gone." and she is. Pink Steven is Rose, transformed into Steven's other half. The split screen when Steven's gem reforms into Pink Steven is proof of this. Pink Steven may be the representation of everything Steven inherited from his mother. Particularly her powers since he's so OP. I think that Pink's/Rose's personality may have been written over with Pink Steven. This leads me to a theory, I learned from experience but when you re-record over a VHS tape you can sometimes see shadows of the thing you recorded over. For a more detailed explanation of this phenomenon watch Captain Disillusion's video of the Disney Park Ghost. Anyway, I think that the gem is basically a storage device, holding the gem's personality, knowledge, etc. Like a VHS tape (although definitely more advanced). So if the gem is passed on to another person, then the gem gets rewritten with the new person's personality and knowledge. However, the ghosts of the original gem holder's memories remain. That's why Steven has those flashbacks. I think the proof of this theory is the fact that the video for Steven is on a ( drum-roll please ) VHS tape! Kind of a lame theory but hey, it's a theory.

The she's gone line happened for a reason, people are missing the point. Pink Steven is Stevens physical gem half, not rose, nor pink, Steven. That gem decided to form as Steven only. It's also a physical representation of half of a gem, that's why it's all glitchy and unstable

Jesus fucking Christ, why do I get the feeling you don't yap about sexuality in a kids show when it's about heterosexual couples? You make it seem as if they are having full out sex on the show, chill a little.
I mean child media is full of references to heterosexual couples being in sexual relationships and I didn't turn hetero from watching those, so I don't think anyone will be "converted" to gay by seeing a design that maybe could be interpreted as a reference to a gay flag.

When Steven and Pink Steven dance together laughing, I thought of Rose Quartz message from the episode ‘Lion 3: Straight to Video’ when Rose told Steven that every time he loves being himself, that’s the feeling of her loving him and loving being him. She also said that they can’t both exist. So my thoughts are that, as Steven grew and gained more personality there became less and less room for Pink Diamond to exist and so she faded to make room for Steven and that’s why there’s only fragments of her memories left inside Steven.

You can hear rose laughing when the two Stevens fuse so I still think there is at least some rose quartz/pink diamond left in the gem even if it’s just an echo
Also when the two Stevens fuse you can see the sick Steven dancing on top of the pink Stevens feet much like how a parent and child would

This is backed up by there analysis of the entire dynamic between Steven and the diamonds now, it is a correlation between trans people and their family. Steven was at first a female by being pink diamond who rebelled and became Rose quartz, and went down the path to become Steven by meeting and falling in love with Greg. Meeting someone can alter the course of an entire race’s future. Not an exaggeration as it becomes clear here. Rose knew something like this would happen, she became Steven, just like how a trans person becomes male or female from the opposite sex. Over time, traces of rose disappeared just as parts of a trans person will disappear over time of their past self. The diamonds were the abrasive, and disapproving parents opting for a more traditional look at things, “how you’re made is what you are”. Just like a traditional family with traditional beliefs will see a trans child as an abomination and a creature walking the earth or something of that sort. There’s more to this theory I’m SURE. But that’s my take on it, I’m not trans but I have several friends that are and I know what they’ve gone through so if I messed this up at all, please in the name of spaghetti, don’t attack me. Thank you, that’s all.
What I liked the most is that amethyst needed a longer dose of the white mind control light than pearl and garnet since she’s the most mentally resolved gem compared to the two and even was trying to fight it off before losing.
And when I saw the gem version of steven I remembered the video that Rose made for Steven/Nora. That she’ll love every moment she’s him. And there might’ve been a moment it could’ve been either pink or rose but since rose decided to give up herself of course it would just be steven. It just shows how much she really loved him and how serious she was in her decision. I seriously thought that in all the times she sucked as a mom to steven even while being “dead” this is the first time she had his back. Or his other self if you will. It was super emotional for me if anything.

For Steven's floating powers, why would he want to slow his descent when he's trying to catch the gem's from falling?
I loved every part of this episode except when steven forces the gems to reform through fusion. I feel like the series set out fusion to be something massive and I liked how every fusion in the series felt developed and worked on, each having they're own episode dedicated to them. But rainbow quarts 2.0, sunstone and obsidian felt like they were just thrown in there to satisfy the fans. I'm really hoping season six puts more effort into breaking down these fusions and putting more detail into them.
One thing you missed was that with Sunstone, her pockets are mismatched in color: one being red, the other blue. This is a reference to Ruby and Sapphire.

1: after Steven and Pearl fused, Rainbow 2.0 said “Well, this is a fine mess we’re in.” This is a reference to the classic comedy troupe, Laurel and Hardy. When they got into deep trouble, Oliver Hardy would say “Well, this is another nice mess you’ve gotten me into!”
2: Sunstone’s suction cups are the ham controllers from Meat Beat Mania in the first season!
The white diamond showdown was the darkest I've seen the show since Garnet and Steven first encountered forced fusions
Plus, Pink Steven screaming she's GOOOOOOOONE was so jarring. So much anger and raw power with the emotionless face. Terrifying and jarring. An extreme contrast to Steven's usual bubbly self and his expressiveness.
Not gonna lie, I got scared. That really made my heart race too fast, they needed to chill. I was sweating during that whole interaction, and when White pulled his gem out I couldn't deal yo.

This might be way off or just a boring explanation, but during the first conversation with White while she was in the mech, Yellow says that “Your standards are held so high, that it could make a gem crack...” or something along those lines.
Perhaps Pink Pearl just cracked under White’s rules, literally.
I thought about that comment too add that to white saying how shes every color and that pink is the part she trys to surpress the most and the theory of there being a red dimond. So red blue yellow are the 3 primary colors so its only natural to start as an equal basis for them all being the original 3. One day red dimond discovers that the gem she beleaved to be the most perfect of them all is off color and being the dimond/color of passion she takes it to heart personally and comes close to ruining everthing white has made but the problem is resolved before word gets out and a replacement is made which is pink and to prevent the same mistake happening white is much more strict. Now this is where the part about pressure comes in. Pressure is one of the most important things in gem formation irl and With all these rules and pressure being put on the developing pink it causes her to not mature right or maybe makes her a late bloomer so when believed to be ready to be exposed to the ways of colonizing shes exposed to a lot of things during a critical development stage where going back to her red function of passon she develops passon for organic life and not just the gem race like she was intended to

When garnet is herself she's very neutral. Because ruby and sapphire are both opposites so they fuse and make a neutral fusion. But when garnet fuses with others, they are more like that other gem garnet fuses with. Because they are the gem that tips their balanced scale. That's why sardonic is more elegant like pearl. Why sugalite is more brash like amathyst. And why sunstone is more optimistic like steven.

This episode had me SHOOKETH. I loved it and was a great way to bring things full circle. They can still do so much with Steven Universe. There are lots of characters to develop with now.

I know but comparing to Bojack in the foreshadowing game is just not a fair match. Spoilers but theres an entire season where a character is basically being served drugged coffee by an old lady with dementia which is a big twist unless you pay attention to the intro which consistently changes depending on who is living with the main character and what kind of damage or changes have been done to his house. Theirs a scene where Bojack drinks the same coffee and briefly gets a buzz. Cookie Cat is good, but Bojack surpasses Simpsons levels of background details.

And people keep complaining that the show has the Steven's Perspective rule. If the show didn't have and consistently follow this first person limited narrative, that scene choice wouldn't have had nearly as much significance or impact.

Anyone else felt eh about the episode. I enjoyed it, but I just wanted more.
So, I didn't like how white diamond reacted. It felt out of character for her. It felt like they made her react that way for the convenience of time. It felt like Steven's victory was too easy, despite that huge build up to the conflict.
I felt like a lot of things that just happened was rushed and unexplored. So much has happened within the span of one episode. I get that it was a longer episode, but I would've liked longer scenes. It just felt like this was a huge, complex conflict, and it was ended just like that.
Expanding on how quick it was, I want to say I really wished for a bit more intensity. I wanted to feel more emotions, and I wanted the characters (the crystal gems, steven, lars and his crew) to feel more. I just wanted that punch in the gut that brings you back to the reality of this whole situation. That impact you feel when the end credits roll and all you can do is just sit there and try to absorb it all. I was just left with. Oh. Is that it? Cool. I mean. For all the characters, they are facing an overcoming the biggest conflicts in their entire lives with everything they got. When you finally succeed, dont you feel so relieved you just cry. I guess I wanted that for them. I guess I wanted that for myself. That happiness and overpowering emotion when you've succeeded, despite all the odds against you. The raw emotions.
That being said, I am so grateful for all the new fushions and outfits. And I'm definately in love with the human and gem steven uniting scene.

Henry the PaleoGuy. What are they going to do though? The main antagonist was defeated with Talk no Jutsu. Answering questions isn’t enough for me. White Diamonds “defeat” was a complete ass pull. It was out of character and rushed because Rebecca wanted a happy ending. I also feel like Rebecca went on hiatus so much so she could wait and see what her audience would theorize would happen then steal it. Lily Orchard’s Steven universe video is amazingly insightful. Go watch it

Can we talk about Steven's gem? The large, pointy end of the gem is always pointing into his stomach, and when it was removed, he should have had a huge, gaping hole in his stomach.
Rith Trelin which would explain why he would die if it was removed. Since it is a kids show, they wouldn’t be able to show blood or death without resurrection, so the more realistic consequence of him bleeding out and dying instantly didn’t happen because it would be too gorey and depressing.

The symbolism in Steven laughing as he is reunited with his gem half, reminding me of the the words Rose said to Steven in the home video she and Greg made. That Steven should always love himself as that is her loving him. This forced separation of Steven and his gem half, I felt personally, was the closest Steven ever got to see and feel his mother. I felt that was the answer to when White Diamond asked to why 'Pink' was laughing before Steven becomes whole.
Also the split - screen when both halves look at each other really underlines the human idea of that you are a fusion of both parents.
Likewise, is the strong difference between Stevens human and gem sides and how they balance each other. One being emotive and compassionate the other being raw gem power.

Not quite. Fusion involves two complete minds. Pink Steven did not possess a complete mind. (And we don't know if Human Steven was exactly complete, either.)
Yes, the way the human and gem interacted was reminiscent of fusion, but remember that human-gem fusions are impossible without Steven present. Something about him makes it possible - something separate from fusion. Something that *enables* fusion.

Guys, remember how Gem Steven was walking on air for a second while moving out of the crater? Do you also remember how gems controlled by White can glide around with no need of touching the ground? OG Steven and White could both show more expression and move more naturally than their weird counterparts. So what's the point? Steven is the host, not his gem. He was never defined by his mother's legacy as PD or Rose Quartz, it was always Steven who fixed everything, not Pink.
Steven needs Pink, but isn't Pink. He needs what's left of Pink, but not to latch onto. He needs the Pink diamond, not Pink's legacy. Why? Because Steven Quartz Universe is his own legacy, in control of his own gem and his own destiny.

One of my favorite lines was when Yellow was crying and telling Blue to stop using her powers. It felt like it would be what their verson of the "it's raining" line Mustang says in Fullmetal Alchemist.
@Rubai_Sora It was a very touching moment. I was able to figure out what she was saying as soon as she said "Stop," but it was very good to see her finally realizing that she has feelings and it is okay to have them.
This episode was not only so shocking and had so much going on. Where do I start, for starters can we talk about how emptionless the gem half of Steven is without the human half? It was literally just raw power. It needs steven as much as he needs it and that is amazing.
This has got to be the most satisfying finale episode of anything I've ever seen. I was wide-eyed and mouth agape the _entire_ time. Absolutely stellar.
I was really surprised to find out this isn't the series finale! They wrapped up every plot thread that they've been setting up since the first episode! Where can they go from here?!
I'd like to acknowledge how amethyst took the longest (that we know of) to submit to white diamonds control, while the others it was almost instantly. I like to think this means that she is the most mentally strong/stable gem, like Steven said in "heart of the crystal gems"

Pinks code was repurposed to be her half of Steven's DNA - it's only Steven. A few fragmented memories would be normal, since we know Gems use code... if I delete a file on a computer it can be recovered, but after awhile the file will be over written bit by bit, so recovering it will eventually be distorted or downright unreadable/unrecognizable. This would be Steven's distorted memories of Pinks. The majority was overwritten at his birth, and the tiny bits that are left are slowly being overwritten with his code/data and memories.
whoopsydaizy I really like your analogy and your code concept. It’s interesting, and makes sense.
However, I feel like Pink and Rose still exist in the gem, because the gems still have their previous forms, as seen when they regenerate. And when we went into Pearl’s gem, we were able to see her in different states: at all of her different forms. And just like Steven was able to see Pearl’s memories at different times of her life while in her gem (and had to keep going into all her forms to get to the one when she was Pink’s pearl), I think that Pink’s/Rose’s memories are still in the gem, and that’s why he keeps having dreams of them.
Whether or not she could properly form? Well… I don’t know that. But I believe she still exists in Steven’s gem, just like there were many Pearls inside Pearl’s gem. But I don’t think he’ll ever be able to meet her. Unless Pink and Rose can control the room in the temple, as well, and project themselves through that.
the Jacket on Pearl reminds me of that girl with an supremely strange similar appearance to Rose Quartz, the one with the jacket and the motorcycle that Pearl fell in love with for a few minutes
