What a great song. I've never heard it before. Such a sad song. So bad that our two glory nations fought against each other in this poorly f**kin war. Best greetings from Nuremberg, Germany.
The songs actually about the Boar War and specificities a battle that took place on the real Spion Kop hill (which is what the Anfield Kop is named after). They were ambushed on a hill from all sides but most of the soldiers were from Liverpool and the surrounding areas. So I don’t know why it mentions a Nazi gun in the song but then again the location has changed in the song from the original version. Plus as a former soldier I can say yesterday’s enemy is tomorrow’s friend. Germans are actually my favourite people, I like the Polish a lot as well. Even my grandad who fought in WW2 really liked the Germans.
