BDs are just recordings of someone's experiences, together with all the sensations, emotions and thoughts of a person. Some cyberware can record ("scroll") them, but they have to be edited and prepared, and then distributed for anyone to watch. I wish it was explained a little bit better, since most first time watchers default it to VR, which also fits rather well
ya that's like the only thing they should have better explained - it was a long segment in the game and described there in depth and here they just throw it at you.

True that the lingo does get confusing, it's like a mix of old and new slang tagged with Cyberpunk 2077 technical stuff. Playing the game or if you want to be old school, the Board game would get you some good insight of what things mean, do and effects. After you guys finish the show maybe try the video game? It's pretty fun especially now that it works WAY better than when it released initially xD

6:54 there is people posting videos of the game Cyberpunk 2077. And there you get an idea of what their world is like. It comes down to one world full of mad scientists who are like this.

Braindances are basically recorded memories. That are then "relived" as a braindance. It's not just a video but the actual experience - sigh, sound, smell, pain, emotions, everything - you live it as if it was actually happening to you and feel the emotions and thoughts of whoever it came from. Naturally, this can have... Adverse effects, to say the least.
i hope netflix keeps making this show. they can follow different groups, stay with theses guys i dont care this show is awsome. The lore that the table top, video game and this show are based on is huge. i think the table top came out in 1980, and its one of the things that inspired blade runner. so theres decades of story and lore to pull from.
Agreed. Would love them to follow a separate crew. Hell the crew that's in Aferlife in the game, nomads, corpos, etc. There are some good novels and graphic novels in the world as well already.
It's up to CD Projekt to decide what to do with the universe. Live action movio or the show is on the way, and I think I heard they aren't done with Trigger, so future anime is still possible.

There is a movie called "Strange Days" from 1999, that has a take on the "dream dance" technology. You two might enjoy it. :)

Bit late to the reactions and really love them. If you want to see an IRL version of BD's and XBD's check out the movie Strange Days from 1995. It's a movie that revolves around a "day in the life" of a black marketeer of recordings set on New Years Eve 2000. Somewhat futuristic for it's time and now quite dated, but not a bad movie. Either way, it'll give you an idea of what BD's would be like if they actually existed.
This slow drip of this series content is so suspenseful! lol

This is based on a videogame called cyberpunk ,
a lot of the tech stuff, world building, slang , easter eggs that are unexplained in the show are explained in the game
And there are references to the edgerunner characters like david in the game
There are only hints to him in the game, because the show was a hit.
@Ragingknight12 the afterlife Easter egg has been there since day 1 of release years before the anime released on Netflix
@xblade11230 not that, I meant mentions of DAVID everything David related, tell me was David once mentioned in the game at all before the show, it's a yes or no answer

Really enjoying seeing this as I can no longer experience watching this show for the first time again and in my opinion I think it's an absolute masterpiece.

You know when j.k. dies, the guy who got shot in the throat, and he smiles at david. That didnt actually happen, david imagined it. It was the early stages of cyberpsychosis.
any chance Kiss could sit differently or maybe tilte the monitor slightly? cause the light/monitor reflects on her glasses so her eyes are not really visible, and its a really important part of human emotion, so it kinda substracts from the videowatching experience.
