I have caught onto your videos for the last two weeks now. It's amazing to see people who have such enthusiasm for the road as you and others that I have seen. Great work, as always. You've recently driven in my neck of the woods (Northwest Indiana). If you ever come back to this area, feel free to do some re-shoots. The Toll Road is a LOT safer now, and there have been tons of improvements on I-65 and the Borman over the last few years that we have completed. Again, great job sir!
This was a really neat video. Pittsburgh infrastructure around the rivers and tunnels carved thru the mountains that this landscape provides I always find interesting. I really enjoy the nature the PA provides.
I have driven over this bridge multiple times over the years, but never underneath it like that. It's a magnificent structure, although you don't see much of it when driving on the bridge. Great job as always!
That's where I grew up. Dad worked at Westinghouse. Sadly, my mother cried when they first came across the bridge from her home in the farm land of central PA (~1938) as she looked over Braddock on the left and E. Pittsburgh on the right. Loved the ending going down into Forest Hills. Hang a right up the hill and I would have been home.
Thanks for showcasing this architectural gem of a bridge; very fascinating stuff, indeed! Pittsburgh never fails to amaze me. Great song choice too. Come to think of it, this is probably one of my top 10 favorite videos of yours; the subject matter is really hard to beat, if you're into old historic bridges like this one.
I've always admire this bridge since I was a kid. They used this bridge as backdrop for this TV series, "Outsiders" in 2016. It only last two seasons. It was nice to see that bridge as backdrop... along with West Newton as the town.
This video ranks up there with 'San Rafael Swell' for interesting-ness and presentation of the scapes you travel. Really liked the side-trips. Glad I subbed.
Another interesting sidelight - just past the end of your video on the right side of US 30 was a very strange looking elevated metal sphere. It was the site of Westinghouse Corp.'s first experiments on "photo-fission of uranium" in the 1930s. Weirdly, it came down in bad weather just this year!
i cant wait to wander the streets and see everything,i am thrilled that you have the vids of pittsburgh, and theres a few other places in the burgh i am going to check out
a couple things Jim, first of all tri boro expressway is not just limited to the span of bridges under the westinghouse, it extends from there (Braddock Avenue is part of it) east to Monroeville, also that road your turning left onto at 6:36 is PA Route 686 probably one of the shortest state routes, if not the shortest in the state
I really wish they still built pretty bridges like that one. For the most part now they only build BUCBs (a.k.a Big Ugly Concrete Bridges) and now even those have gotten even uglier.
Just across the Westinghouse Bridge from East Pittsburgh used to be a big Quality Inn Motel. I spent 3 days there with my girlfriend while I was in the Army. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a breakup meeting (unknown to me) and she married someone else. I still remember the place well.
Another reason is the long play out/solo to end the song gave me a lot of flexibility with the footage as I was making the video, I could fade it out early if need be, which I did.
@Freewayjim Oh, OK! So, the British English butchered the Latin language while the American English butchered the British. And the Spanish, Italian and Portuguese also butchered the Latin as well.
one of my favorite Bridges, beautiful architecture, hopefully It remains strong and sturdy for many more years to come!💯
Man, I LOVE you taste in music! Mellow song for a mellow ride. It' can't get any better than that.
Wow! I never been through this part of Pittsburgh! I'll definitely will have to check it out! It looks so peaceful and scenic.
Thank again for Wondering drive of George Westinghouse bridge & surrounding Industrial area.

Sharing with friends across the world.
Thank you!
Excellent presentation of a very interesting area. Well Done!!
Thank you! I'd like to go back and update this footage someday.
Nice video! Those 30's era bridges are awesome!

Thanks for putting a steel mill in the video. That's still part of Pittsburgh's identity. Pittsburgh will forever be known as the Steel City.

Thank you! i always enjoy taking an excursion out to the bridge when I'm in the area.
this is awesome! thanks for the tour of the Westinghouse bridge.
Had lucks of fun walking on the Westinghouse Bridge cat-walk.Great video.
Thank you!
What an awesome video. This song and San Lorenzo are my new favorite song.

Definitely an engineering marvel.

Frank Connelly
You will love it, I'm sure
Interesting, thanks for sharing that.
Nice video Jim, this is great to take these roads that teach us some kind of history. I didn't know who Mr Westinghouse was. Now I Know. Thanks

Beautiful. I am surprised at how little traffic there was.
Thanks, I've been to that area a few times and the traffic has never been bad, just lucky I guess.
Thank you very much!
Brilliant mate, love your work
I really wish they still built pretty bridges like that one. For the most part now they only build BUCBs (a.k.a Big Ugly Concrete Bridges) and now even those have gotten even uglier.
i love how at 5:46 you know the age of the bridge based on the guardrail style! This is a good video. i love the bridge

i want to live there so badly
Beautiful views, awesome notes and unbelievable soundtrack. Thanks.
Thanks, it actually samples "San Lorenzo", that and I needed something long, lol.
Awesome stuff! I want to go to Pittsburgh now! As I said I have a co-worker who attends "Pitt."
@QuizzicalOne Thanks and welcome aboard! Not sure when I'll be back in NW Indiana area but will keep that in mind.
I grew up in Pittsburgh. Just like I was riding along with my father when I was a kid, Dad knew Pittsburgh like the back of his hand.
@wert13d Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
Very nice
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
@VaFreeways Thanks, glad you liked the tune(s).
@BaronPhilippe Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
@FreewayBrent Thanks, glad you liked it!
You're welcome, thanks for watching1
highly interesting tour! I think you'd miss this if you're not familiar with the area.
@Bbgunn325 Thanks, glad you liked it!
@Bryant5493 Thanks Bryant, glad to have you back.
@ashtonnesmith You're welcome, thanks for watching.
Eric Roberson! Excellent choice...
Another reason is the long play out/solo to end the song gave me a lot of flexibility with the footage as I was making the video, I could fade it out early if need be, which I did.
I always wondered why you chose this song, which is great. It reminded you of Pat Metheny Group's "San Lorenzo?"
@aswchris Thanks, the only reason I knew to go under there was from photos in books, otherwise...you are 100% correct!
Can you tell me where you found the picture of the bridge in the mid-1940's, around 3:20 into the video? Thank you!
I don't really remember, either a book (scan) or a google search.
+Roger Beal I'm not the one looking for it :) Kelly K is.
You can be sure. . . if it's Westinghouse (the bridge)!
@PelicanGuy Thanks!
@lakebay972 I think they did that on purpose, that is the latin spelling of it (no U's), I've seen that done in other places.
Did you ever make your trip to Pittsburgh? If so, what were your impressions.
@0marigolds Thank you much and it really is!
@keeleeng Thank you!
@eluko79 Thanks, and lol on the culdesacs, good observation..
I’m wondering why it says George Westinghovse Bridge, and not Westinghouse?
@mdavid1955 Thanks and agreed, they don't build them like that anymore.
@blue06lt Thank you!
@FinlaythePug Unfortunately, that bridge is located in a not so great area of town...but it is a magnificent structure to behold.
@VHM072010 Thanks!
@19crash84 Agreed!
@happygolucky92959 Good to know!
@blue06lt it looks like a relaxing ride though!
@dave11686 Thanks!
freeway the picture of ET 2005 was taken off my deck at 300 cliff ?
I don't know what you are talking about?
That is near my late grandparents house
@lakebay972 Something like that, yeah, lol.
And just when I saw the video, you mentioned that. My bad!
@Freewayjim Oh, OK! So, the British English butchered the Latin language while the American English butchered the British. And the Spanish, Italian and Portuguese also butchered the Latin as well.
had to mute the music for 8:39 . Otherwise a great video
You did not "have" to mute the music nor do I see why you had to tell me you did, it's not like I'm going to change it or anything.
@@Freewayjim there's always one asshole ...
@@jimdiskin3760 I know right?
ha ha ha At 0:45, "Westinghouse" is misspelled. They have it "Westinghovse." How embarrassing!
@Reiser86 Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
@ScrewdUPClickV2 Thanks!
