In 2009 I hiked across the entire state of Utah. In 2010, I went back to explore a different stretch. This video captures highlights of the 16-day, 248-mile trek from Escalante to Monticello.
Great -- glad you like the video AND the music. The music was a point of contention when I released the video (admittedly the mix was off and I probably shouldn't have used it due to license issues, but... I liked it at the time!) Thanks for watching and the comment! 🌞✌
Awesome video! Utah is such an amazing state. There's nothing else like the feeling you get when you realize you might be the first person to ever set foot in a certain spot, and seeing all those old carvings from people back in the 1800s and early 1900s. Just amazing. Thanks for sharing!
Excellent trip and nice video work. Couple of suggestions, IMO, the music was a bit harsh, out of context with the visuals. If you really wanted that music, I would lower that track compared to your voice over.
Thanks so much. I have an update to this video that I need to publish -- it has some additional footage and a revised soundtrack. Hope to get to it soon!
I can tell you obviously had a great time on this trip. This was a great video! Thanks for taking us along on this trip! Was able to enjoy the sites from computer. You and your videos have inspired me!
for those worrying about the pronunciation of Monticello, I suggest you watch the entire video and then maybe get off your butts and hike something worthy this year.
@@cw7784 I agree. I was just thinking the thing I like most about your videos, Jamal, is no distracting music. (I'm a conductor). I watched your video of 31 minutes like a murder mystery and surprised myself. One of the things we go to nature for are the the sounds of silence. If you redo this video consider eschewing music completely.
Great video. Monticello is pronounced Montee/sello for those who have not yet learned the correct way. Happy camping. Welcome to Utah. A wonderful place to explore
Thanks, Jevutube. Yeah -- I wish TH-cam had a way to replace the audio track w/o re-doing the whole video. I have several audio tracks I'd like to tweak.
Heya Tom -- glad you've enjoyed the treks. Re: the camera -- No, I haven't used the Me Mode feature as I think it's only available on the X3 (I have the One X2 now and used the ONE-R and a Samsung360 before that.) Thus I do all my own re-framing manually. Even though it sounds like a time saver, I actually think I'd prefer the manual method though just for the added flexibility and control. From what I've seen the Me Mode requires one to stay fairly-well centered while shooting. I also sometimes enjoy using the "reverse" angle to intercut with a POV using the very same footage. Thanks for watching and the comment. ✌
That's interesting. Several of my hikes have gone by old uranium deposits/mines -- I've often wondered what those spots would read on a Geiger meter. My understanding of residual radiation in rocks is that it's usual minimal -- but I'd love to know for sure. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience.
Yeah... others have said the same thing in the past. Good news is... I've found the masters and will be uploading a redo of this video before too long with new soundtrack and extra footage. Thx.
No problem -- I appreciate the feedback. I do regret the music choice on this one and wish TH-cam allowed for alternate soundtrack uploads to provide options/updates. Cheers!
@@Acrossutah hey Jamal. I only found your channel very recently when i started researching for our first potential trip to the canyonlands which we hope to do next autumn (i guess you guys call it 'fall' right ?). We are most likely to do a combined trip of Utah canyons and a couple of longer hikes in the eastern Sierra...at the moment it looks as though it needs to be a 5-6 week trip from the UK. Iv'e just got my first guidebook and map and trying to make senese of what hikes, as a complete canyons beginner, to do. We know what conditions are like in the High Sierra but Utah looks like a completely different experience. Just to add that iv'e really enjoyed your video's....i go through at least one most nights and add yet another canyon to the list !
Sorry you don't like the music -- I usually only include rock music on my 'preview' vids, but changed it up for this video. I hope to redo this video soon with a more mellow soundtrack and some bonus footage. Stay tuned and thanks for watching.
Unbelievable journey.....great camera work and editing.....thanks so much for sharing.
Gorgeous! Thank you. Love the music. I listen to a lot of music when hiking in Escalante 🧡🧡🧡

Great video log of your epic journey. Great mix of narrative, music and visual!
Excellent trip and nice video work. Couple of suggestions, IMO, the music was a bit harsh, out of context with the visuals. If you really wanted that music, I would lower that track compared to your voice over.
Very nice, I like your style, it seems that you're following your own trail. What a place, thanks.
Thanks for sharing your journey! My kids and I enjoyed the music.
What a great trip and thanks for sharing your adventure.
Wow, that steep edge is crazy, especially with a big backpack. That lizard is amazing. That 1900s cabin is very well maintained.
I agree with ibenickw. Can't wait to get back to Utah and Northern Arizona. Thanks for posting this and your other videos!

So much great scenery here; especially the lizard shot at 13:37! I hope to explore Dark Canyon myself some day. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Great. Congratulations. Thank You !!
This is really great, Jamal. Thanks for making these videos. Very well done all the way around!
Great film. But I'm sorry, the music was annoying.
I dunno, I kinda like the music. Each to own, I guess.
But it’s Pearl Jam.
for those worrying about the pronunciation of Monticello, I suggest you watch the entire video and then maybe get off your butts and hike something worthy this year.
awesome video wish there was no music it would of been more peaceful
+Clinton Wurzbach Thanks for the comment. I actually plan to redo this video with a more subdue soundtrack in the near future.
Ok cool

Thanks, Steve. Utah sure beats Hyde Park for hiking!
Great video. Monticello is pronounced Montee/sello for those who have not yet learned the correct way. Happy camping.
Welcome to Utah. A wonderful place to explore
Yeah -- not sure why I flubbed that in the beginning, but by the end I'm saying it right! Thanks for watching.
That narrow canyon looks scary-- and beautiful!
@usmail77 Thanks! For video I have a Sony HDV HC1. The stills were taken with a tiny point and shoot Canon SD980.
Thanks, Jevutube. Yeah -- I wish TH-cam had a way to replace the audio track w/o re-doing the whole video. I have several audio tracks I'd like to tweak.
Do NOT forget the serum!
The soundtrack rocked! Leave it be!
Hi Jamal, Love watching your treks! I am an insta360 fan and wondering if you use the ME mode on most of your videos?
Heya Tom -- glad you've enjoyed the treks. I LOVED the music. Where'd you get water?
I recently met a lady while hiking who carried a geiger counter because some petrified woods can have high levels of radiation.
A very well made and very interesting video. I enjoyed it. Thanks for printing the canyon names. Thumbs down on the music.
less music, more commentary
OK. Actually... planning to re-publish this video soon with a revised soundtrack and a bit more footage. Thanks for watching.
Music was terrible. Was that the Pus Casserole?
Was what?
Lose the music
Yeah... others have said the same thing in the past. Good news is... I've found the masters and will be uploading a redo of this video before too long with new soundtrack and extra footage. Thx.
I had to skip this one, music was too intrusive....sorry

Everything is nice except this ugly music

I didn't mean to insult you in any way . I Like your videos :) .
