    You need to remove some brake fluid from the upper master cylinder to make room for the fluid to go when you squeeze the pistons into the caliper or your pads will rub on the rotor from fluid pressure. Don't spill brake fluid on your gas tank, put a towel on your tank doubled up, brake fluid will eat the paint faster than you'd imagine.

    Thanks for the help. I didn't know you could clean the brake cylinders with soapy water. The bungee cord idea was a good one too. Thanks again, Lee

    Thanks for this video Cruiseman! Thanks to this video, I just replaced the front brake pads on my 2008 V-Star Silverado. Time for a test ride to see if the squealing is finally gone.

      Does the squealing indicate that its time for new brakes? I just bought a bike so i am not well versed on how it should feel/sounds etc

    I have a question. If you don't bleed them or open the reservoir will the pads have to much pressure? My brakes seem to be pinching a little harder causing drag. Is this normal? I mean is this like a break in type of deal or will I have to fix this?

    What happens if you use brake cleaner instead of soapy water? Would it damage oil seals or anything else on the caliper?

    • @cruisemansgarage
      @cruisemansgarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Many people do use brake cleaner, but it could damage the seals.

    so, he didn't need to bleed the breaks line after?

    • @cruisemansgarage
      @cruisemansgarage  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the pads don't affect the fluid.

    • @vstar7196
      @vstar7196 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The issue will be that if you’ve been keeping the reservoir topped up while you have worn pads, pushing the cylinders back in will force extra fluid into the reservoir.
