Wolfgang got so many subs because he plays a style similar to how a lot of his viewers play. They see him winning big pots and think "im as good if not better than him so why not me?"
I think wolfgang is very entertaining, and he knows it. I also don't think he aims to give the impression that he's a top level pro either. he plays silly hands, gets weird and wacky, and tries to find hands for highlights and fun. (not saying he's trying to lose money or anything) He's usually quite honest about wanting to improve and posts videos with his coach as well. Some folks I watch for kicks, some I watch for wisdom. Wolfgang is a good time, and I'm sure I could glean some knowledge here and there, but I'm fairly new and even I scratch my head sometimes at the choices I see. Can't wait to see more of these!
There is a reason Wolfgang is 'the biggest' creator. His commentary caters to a very casual starter part time type of poker player. 17:45 is a great example, he thinks like plenty of fish I've heard at my home games think.
It’s weird you can see chino taking chips off the table and putting them in his hoodie pocket before shoving all in at 15:02. He must still owe people money..
I think he was maybe shuffling/counting out like 4 red chips he uses for tipping when putting out his allin, and since they don’t play in this game unless in 25$ increments. He just grabbed em’ and took em’ out of play.
Mariano is an interesting player to look at in this style of video, alongside wolfgang. They both are primarily entertainers, especially on streamed games, and are under external pressure to give action, generate big pots, etc.
Range checking is stupid at low stakes, you’re limiting yourself to often only 2 streets of value against nit low stakes players who will rarely stab with bluffs and will only put money in when their hand improves to beat yours
Yeah, a colab between you guys would be GREAT! It'd either be enlightening or confusing. Dunning-Kruger valley of despair and tough concepts need the right words in order to convey them effectively.
Loving this series so much that I didn’t even take offense at your disparaging remarks about the tendencies of “older gentlemen” [ahem] to marry their big overpairs. Thanks tons. Can’t wait for the next installment. Jaman Burton is a Vegas reg who seems solid and whose vlogs have high production values. Love your content Charlie. The way you think about the game is a breath of fresh air in today’s Solver Fanboy World. Thanks for doing your thing & keeping it real my friend. Cheers from the AZ🌵 in the US.
I have watched 2 videos on this channel, and I just subscribed. I know Charlie is a world-class crusher, and I value his opinion, which I think is spot-on for all of the analyses that I have seen him do. For the last few years, I have grinded the low-limits for a living. I used do that in L.A. 30 years ago at the middle-limits before the no-limit explosion of the early 2000's. Had a few decades off, and needed to get my NL game up to speed, I did that by watching the vloggers and subscribing to CLP. One thing that I think all the armchair critics of these guys should recognize, is that ALL of them started vlogging the low-limits, and now all of them have moved up and are still winning, because as Charlie says, poker is thriving right now. I'm talking about Brad, Andrew Neeme, Lex, Wolfgang, Rampage and Mariano. I like Wolfgang's content because he is very amicable, and makes the game fun. Brad is a great guy, I have interacted with him one-on-one a little and at a meetup game, but I think something he needs to work on is not being so serious. In my room, a lot of the bad players invite me to come to their table, because I try to be fun (genuinely) and to be a gracious loser. They all know I am dominating the game, but they feel very satisfied when they beat the pro who has stacked them numerous times, and I like that. In all honesty, variance is a bitch, and I am driving the bread truck right now, sigh. I'll be back in a month or so to dominate them again. If you want to get your low-limit game up to speed, go watch the early vlogs of all those guys, AND incorporate the crusher mentality of Charlie, and voilà, poker success is within your grasp.
Clearly he’s a good TH-camr, but you were very kind to him 😂 Gary Blackwood is a good one. He worked for Doug Polk for a while, unsure if he’s still doing that though.
definitely understand the review, and your scoring of these hands - as far as I know, Wolfgang seems to be playing higher than normal stakes in this video - and I think a lot of his voiceover is more focussed on being easy digestible analysis for the layman (for better viewer retention and such) vs in-depth thought provoking analysis, and possibly is an understatement as to what he's actually thinking at the table. Anyway, Mr Gazzy B next please!
First hand I kinda feel like the naughty brain might win and raise to $14k. We can have a lot of the flushes and sets, and our opponent is mostly capped (w the exception of Ad Kd specifically). Or is it better to call because there's just not that much Qx relative to Ad T-Koff that could be turning A high into a bluff?
I'm no pro but I disagree on hand 1 with both of you. I believe the check on the turn was a terrible play. A bet would've won the pot or gotten a fold, and if the villain called it, then we are beat. He put himself in a very bad situation on the river card. AQ, KQ, JQ, 10,Q all get there. Those are a couple 3 betting hands. Especially if suited.
Very accurate analysis but as you inferred, if he were playing B+ to A- poker he wouldn't get into some of the games he gets in. Seems like the new goal is to be good enough, make enough wild plays and be entertaining enough to score big on platforms and break even or be a small loser at the tables.
I like your logic on the first hand, river bet. If he was trying to get value, he probably wouldn't have bet so large, as you said. His bet felt like he was sizing it to make him fold. I'm curious what do you think Bruno had in the first hand?
Wolfgang may not be a top tier player but the games this guy is invited to are cray-cray. The guys EV is skyrocketing just by getting invited back so he gets to play goofy ,splashy hands for content.
I dont see a clip where Wolfgang says that he ALWAYS checking the flop in between 2 or more opponents because his coach learned him that (he never said the reason behind it) I want to hear your perspective about this play I think you miss so much value/control if you do that always
It is ironic the 2 biggest youtubers are 2 of the least skilled nits brad and this guy. He supposedly beats 1/3 in texas for $100 n hour. More of a testament to how wide texas is then wolfgang. But he couldnt beat $50 NL online before rake i bet.
Brad is very good from what I've seen. Perhaps "nitty" compared to his typical loose/wild player pool, and perhaps not super-elite, but he's more than capable of making big bluffs/calls and beating 5/10 for a good winrate. Wolfgang is definitely a very mid player, but his player pool is perhaps even worse than Brad's; lots of fun players and wild gamblers. Goes to show how game selection is as important as skill level. I don't think beating 1/3 for $100/hr is possible. Mark Goone is trying to beat 5/5 for 100/hr and despite being an excellent exploitative player he's currently only managing ~60/hr.
@@Alexandertygreat I think what you don't realize is that wolfgang has never once in his life been able to play his A-game, that's the cost of being a vlogger. he has to give action in ridiculous spots, he can't make detailed reads on players, and he can't dedicate the same amount of time to studying as 99% of serious amateurs. yet, he's made over $100/hr in both private and public games, at both high stakes and low stakes, for over three years now. I'm even impressed by that, frankly.
wolfgang refers to flips as when the cards are on their backs. Notwhat a flip stands for its to have 2 players with 50/50 chance at the pot or thereabouts. not 20 or 25percent
Great analysis. Very helpful. Haven’t seen much of this guy despite him being popular. I think like you, something seems off with the way he speaks. Doesn’t seem very good (I mean he’s probably better than me, but he’s not elite).
I am not gonna lie o watched so much of you whe. Wolfgang is pretty mid-tier in terms of skill, but he's playing in a lot of games with players who are even worse and are there to have fun and gamble, which is why you see stuff like 4-bets with 33 and random massive all-ins during the nit game. You really have to readjust your range estimation in games like this, and it's why it pays to be popular and well-liked in places where there are a lot of wealthy gamblers looking for a fun time.
@@zeouhu7345 Nah, way too extreme. I've played with trash... players that don't even have the foggiest notion of what balanced looks like; who way, way, way overcall, overfold, overbluff, etc.; who have consistent sizing tells, who always or never take certain lines, etc. Wolfgang is absolutely mid. He doesn't make these kinds of consistent, huge mistakes, but at the same time he's not good at range analysis or exploiting other players' tendencies or even pool tendencies. Doubt he'd be a winner at online 100NL or any live game with good, solid regs.
@@jonathanhenderson9422exactly. He could probably drop into any random 2/5 live game and be a slight winner. I’d say that’s the definition of mid. He has a strange thought process though and he constantly fails to get value for his made hands because he either plays too trappy or bets too small. I’d say he’s right above the lowest tier of vloggers, and I’ve been watching him off and on pretty much since he started. When Charlie started analyzing his hands, I legitimately tried breaking down the best possible play I could make myself before Charlie answered and I was surprised at how much better I was than Wolfgang. Many of my opinions were very similar to Charlie’s.
@@AlvinTeachesPoker I’ve watched Wolfgang since before his channel blew up. I understand his style and his thought process. Like I said, I like the guy and assume he’d be a winner at a random 2/5 game. I understand that you’re his coach and that you have to stick up for him. I even remember you being on his channel in a coaching session telling him to use 3 bet or fold strategy back in the day. I also get that he’s a “personality” and plays it up for his vlogs. However, I can also see far too many flaws in his thinking for him to consistently outplay me or most other good low stakes regs for that matter. He just lacks the analytical ability and instinct of a crusher. He has solid fundamentals and that will get him as far as he needs to go. He also uses retroactive analytics to explain his play which is the sign of someone who isn’t entirely considering (or remembering) the action in the moment. A lot of it is probably alcohol and mixing it up for fun. However, tons of the mistakes he makes are not related to making good content. In the last 1500 hours of tracking sessions I made $59.55/hr in a deep stack 1/2 game and $79.35/hr in 2/5. Im not saying that as a way to brag (you’ve won way more), I just know that the vast majority of people do not have that win rate including Wolfgang unless he’s been invited to some extremely juicy private games.
I want to hear about drugs in poker. I am sure there are some recreational drugs used, but are these more or less common at higher stakes, and how common are performance enhancing drugs? Some amphetamines, ritalin, etc are used by poker players. I think these work to keep people focused and awake, but how common are they and what benefits do they have apart from alertness? What is the downside?
5:46 This observation is exactly why I dont watch random poker streamers. I don't need their random bad poker thinking polluting my thinking. I have started watching Wolf cuz he doesn't show opponents hands so I practice ranging and live tells, but dont really pay allot of attention to his poker-speak. Frankly I think he's under-rolled for some games he plays and it affects his game.
Contrary to popular belief, I actually think there is educational value in watching poker vlog content. If you are cognitive enough to identify their many mistakes that is. Spotting common population mistakes and creating exploits around them, just maximizes your winrate. And they just hand them to you on a silver platter. So do pay attention to his ramblings!
Similar energy to Rampage, uses the lingo and sounds like he knows his stuff to a recreational. I do think Mariano's a solid player though, be interesting to hear your thoughts.
Charlie, surely you know who Chino Rheem is. One of the oldest tricks in the book is to pretend like you would have sucked out so you can get information on what your opponent had. Pretty sure he didn't have a seven. He wanted to get Wolfgang to tell/show his hand. ❤
Gary Blackwood would be a good one and also would love your view on spraggy and tonka. Completely agree with rating so far and glad you have your virtual league table up now (horse is defo way above all others from content he’s put out). If you don’t crucify rampage I will be shocked though
In Wolfgang’s defense on the A♦︎K♦︎ hand, I’ve played with Randy and he could certainly have sets. Randy plays mostly in the Dallas area which is home to what I call no foldem holdem. Randy is a very wealthy whale and could have any 2 cards at anytime
I always found Wolfgang his shorts a bit targeted for newbies and alot of action editing etc. not really informative. I agree with you Charlie that he is okay, but not really good at reading situations.
There's no way that Corey is better than Wolfgang, or on the same level as Brad. Maybe it's due to the small sample size, or the fact that Wolfgang was shot-taking, or a mixture of both. Having watched large amounts of all three of their vlogs, I would venture to say that Brad is a tier above Wolfgang, who is a tier above Corey. Obviously it'll be interesting to see Mariano, Rampage, and Gazzy B, but what I really want to see is Lexo poker. In my opinion, out of all of the names Charlie has reviewed, plus the ones mentioned above, Hungry Horse is the best, and Lexo needs the most work. Another really good player who has recently been putting content out is Aero Innovations, which I forgot to mention, but is worthy of consideration.
Watch coreys older content, he simplifies his thought process and punts a lot more now for the vlog, if you watch his stuff 2 years old you get a better view of his skill level, which isnt the worst.
Mariano please. Be interesting to see you break him down, rampage you’ll just lose your mind at the punts
Tbf after writing this I realised the comment about rampage would probably be good content so up to you 😅
Bluffalo Sam (met him today) would be nice. He's super aggressive in the right spots and has good reasoning for it.

Im not saying that as a way to brag (you’ve won way more), I just know that the vast majority of people do not have that win rate including Wolfgang unless he’s been invited to some extremely juicy private games.
Kevin Eyring - I really like his content and how he shows his folds
If Jaman Burton is still doing a vlog, I think he'd be a good candidate (His vlog used to be called "The Drawing Dead").
Do you have Ryan depaulo video in the future?
Marino is good, Wolfgang sucks and Rampage will give you a brain aneurism
Do garret adlestien
Mariano first, then Gary tbh. You’d enjoy Mariano’s most likely.
No hate against the lad, but I’m 99% sure his 1M+ subscribers are mostly bottled accounts. The view numbers don’t correlate to how many subs he has
its subs from shorts. over 1 billion views
Liked because of the editor. Charlie's OK too
+1 for Gary Blackwood please!

This observation is exactly why I dont watch random poker streamers.
Really enjoying this series Charlie
Can you buy subs? Because Wolfgang doesn’t warrant 1.5m subs in my eyes
Except for not buttoning his shirt this was cool
Lex o'poker next
Thank you, I like these videos a lot. It's great to hear your thought process compared to these flashy TH-camrs.
LexO LexO please haha.
Nice series so far.
👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤
I find Bluffalo Sam to be one of the more entertaining poker vloggers. He finds a ton of bluffs and talks through thought process in depth.
Gary Blackwood would be a good one and also would love your view on spraggy and tonka. Completely agree with rating so far and glad you have your virtual league table up now (horse is defo way above all others from content he’s put out). If you don’t crucify rampage I will be shocked though
how many times are we going to hear the rock paper scizzors analogy
In Wolfgang’s defense on the A♦︎K♦︎ hand, I’ve played with Randy and he could certainly have sets. Randy plays mostly in the Dallas area which is home to what I call no foldem holdem. Randy is a very wealthy whale and could have any 2 cards at anytime
if youre going to play k5 suited against a wide range, play it aggressively
He said we have sdv against ace high hands after double barreling lol 😂
I always found Wolfgang his shorts a bit targeted for newbies and alot of action editing etc. not really informative. I agree with you Charlie that he is okay, but not really good at reading situations.
Watching triton now. Why don't you do any of those events?
You do huge online tournaments
Carrot Corner!!! He plays & teaches online but he’s my other favorite next to Hungry Horse
Please analyse Rampunt as a poker player 😂
Also, how did we forget Neeme?!?!
Watch coreys older content, he simplifies his thought process and punts a lot more now for the vlog, if you watch his stuff 2 years old you get a better view of his skill level, which isnt the worst.
Kmart seems like a really smart poker player also who is willing to learn and get better. Would like to see him analyze him also.
You gotta find some randy highlights. I deal to him regularly. He can definitely have a set although he probably just flats the 3b more often
Been looking forward to this one O_O
Definitely do Jaman Burton - makes some of the most entertaining vlogs out there
I would love to see this too. Charlie would go crazy over how nitty he is
Kevin Eyring please. 3 videos so far but really good thought processes and plays.
Cant you tell the solver that villians range is "rock" only?
Marc goone is the Goat
Some of his plays seem spewy
I really want to see your reactions to rampages plays
Randy 3 coin can have any 2 cards. He is a whale.
Could you please analyze kmart poker. Thank you sir.
Got Ryan depaulo and Jeff Boski to check out too - they’re more tournament heavy - both have some cash clogs thoughb
Can you do Conor Mcgragar?
