Ernie Johnson is a fabulous host, don’t think they’ll ever be a sports host I enjoy to watch more than him. He can handle any news with ease and poise, something that not many others could do. It will be a sad day when he decides to retire.

Ernie truly makes It magical and easier for all of us, especially in the tributes for the passing legends.
It'll be truly crazy when he'll retire and he isn't even a player for the NBA, so many memories and feelings.
he's the goat
I wouldn't want to live in a world that didn't have Elevator Ernie.

John Thompson was America's dad. And a voice as powerful as James Earl Jones.

If it weren't for coach Thompson it wouldn't be no Alonzo mourning, mutombo, Patrick Ewing, and Allen iverson all in the hall of fame
I remember that heat Knick series..coach Thompson was there cheering on both of his boys
The first 3 would have been fine going somewhere else they were too good. AI tho you really can say that for, Thompson was the only one that gave him a chance and being that Iverson was really only 5’11” no NBA team woulda gave him a chance if he tried going right into draft.
@@jdaily2293 Complete facts, without forgetting the molding of AI together with Brown later.
Josh Daily Tbh he’s reason why there elite, and with Iverson just came out jail few colleges were in interest in him but Big John took the risk. without Big John Iverson would be a what If basketball legend.
Josh Daily Mutumbo didn’t play basketball until he got to Georgetown and he wasn’t recruited he got an academic scholarship and Thompson invited him out to practice and he got better playing against Alonzo
*Ernie- Put the towel on the right side.
*Kenny- Puts the towel on his left😭😭
Kenny is corny period
That UNC education and imagine he went to Catholic school ( Archbishop Molloy) before that....smh.
😂😂😂.
I literally said the same thing when the camera turned on Kenny. Bruh
First he walked off the show now this lol, D Wade will be taking his spot soon.
I met him at the Vegas airport in the early 90s. I was so happy to see him sitting at a table. He saw the eagerness in me looking at him that when he was leaving, he came over and ask if I wanted a picture with him. One of my best days. Still have my picture.
Please don't throw it away or lose it

John Thompson was the epitome of what a father figure was. He was also an excellent commentator and correspondent for the NBA on TNT. We'll all miss him.
Yes, I remember when he was a commentator on TNT. He was really good.
U never heard of John Thompson till this video
I can’t imagine what Allen Iverson is feeling right about now.
He tweeted this morning IIRC. He prob devastated though.
@google Google
Don't be mean!
Like he just lost his dad.I remember NOBODY wanted to touch A.I after his legal / blackball issues( despite his immense talent)His mom went to coach Thompson and begged him to give A.I a second chance in LIFE not just basketball. He must feel he owes EVERYTHING to Big John.
He sick rite now he saved his life
Prob crying non-stop TBH... A.I. has always been an emotional guy... and JT was like a father to him.
Shaq's story about John Thompson giving AI a chance when he was in jail and noone was there for him gave me goosebumps. What an incredible man. RIP coach
He was the reason I loved college basketball and the reason I went to college 😪now I'm a school teacher😪
Respect
Thank you-keep at it! We need such leaders in our children’s lives.
Congrats sir!
At age 10 it was the first time that I saw a black man coaching a basketball team....in the 1982 Final Four. I watched in awe and amazement!! Left a profound impact on me. Loved those Hoya teams from 1982-1985.
As a Tarheel Fan I was at that game Classic.
I grew up in Baltimore and was a huge Georgetown fan because of Reggie Williams and David Wingate, two Baltimore basketball players who played at Georgetown. John Thompson seemed larger than life. The fact that he was 6'9" might have given creedence to what my imagination told me, but nevertheless, John Thompson mattered. He touched the lives of so many Black boys and turned them into Black men. John Thompson saved Allen Iverson's life. What is going through AI's mind now? What about Patrick Ewing? He went from having a storied NBA career to being the emotional, physical, and spiritual embodiment of John Thompson Jr as Ewing is now the head coach of Georgetown's basketball team. What about Alonzo Mourning? What about Dikembe Mutombo? Mutombo is arguably the greatest humanitarian the sports world has ever seen. We will never see another Mutombo. Where did his spirit of giving and selflessness come from? We know the answer to that question. John Thompson mattered.
This is a beautiful message man nothing but love ✊🏾

Rest in power King. Coach Thompson was the reason why I watched college basketball and had aspirations to play.
This is why Inside the NBA is my favorite show. Guys know how to read the room well. And every legend that dies they all have some memories with them.
RIP to John Thompson!!!! A real Legend & hero in the black community. I grew up watching so many clips & speeches from him in sports documentaries never knowing who he really was & his value until I got older. If it wasnt for him, there would be no A.I. & countless other stand up black men that he raised. This one got to me & I had to pause & reflect for a few minutes. REST IN POWER TO THIS BLACK KING!
Barkley yeah, but everybody is race baiting on Luka because he is white "Luka is next Larry Bird" lol why can't Luka just be good basketball player from Europe?
@@MikeJones-pf4wd That's because America is absolutely obsessed with race.
Wow!! Much Respect Chuck! for mentioning Rollin Nolan!! I’m in Atlanta now, but I’m from Little Rock. #94 Champs!! Baby!!
I can’t stop crying!! The love from players did not even play at Georgetown for Coach JOHN Thompson!! That goes deep!! I just hope one day somebody can make a movie about his life
I loved John as a announcer he was incredible... he’s underrated as a basketball announcer IMO.. obviously a legend as a coach
Dc born and raised. John Thompson one of my favorite coaches of All-time . Came to my school one time and spoke to us , excellent speaker. Got to shake his hand and talk to him, tall man. Didn’t see the Pat Ewing era but the Iverson era was my childhood , had everybody doing his crossover . Hoya Grey all day , definitely had the best shoes and gear.
I was born with a heart defect and they rushed me to Georgetown Hospital, they had amazing cardiologists and I owe my life to that institution. Having said that, I grew up in the DMV and was a fan of the Hoyas. I wasn't around for the glory years but the younger generation knew what Coach Thompson meant to DC. Rest in Peace, Coach #hoyasaxa
Glad you recovered man. Great story
@@LiveBoi2kfan I did, I had 4/5 surgeries at Gtown, I'm 28 and still kicking. Still one of my saddest days was when Georgetown lost in the Final Four to Greg Oden's Ohio State

Absolutely a maker of men. Thanks Coach RIP
Coach Thompson made me learn about and appreciate American college basketball, I was 13 when he won his NCAA championship, I became a fan, this from a kid from Canada.
john Thompson has such a unique voice, when he speaks he has everyone's attention and I am speaking of hearing him on interviews on tv
"He wanted to create great Black men."
I loved John Thompson, growing up as a teenager in the '80's. I'm sad today.
RIP Coach John Thompson. I’ll never forget about the story of him confronting Rayful Edmond, an infamous drug lord, and warning him to stay away from his players. The man held so much power and was respected by everyone.
80's college basketball was the ACC and The Big East ( you can throw independent DePaul in there too). The Big East was loaded from top to bottom.Georgetown, St.John's, Syracuse, Villanova. You had Michael Adams at Boston College,Otis Thorpe at Providence, Clyde Vaughn at Pitt, Earl Kelley at UConn. We all know about Ewing, Mullin, Pearl, Pinckney. So many great teams, coaches, players and rivalries.Big Mondays were must see. These were my ball playing years.Couldnt wait to get on the court after watching Georgetown play.Made me step my defense up and wanted to block EVERYTHING like Ewing.John Thompson not only coached great players, but he molded young men into grown men.R.I.P Big John.
Bruh it’s like everyday the past 3 days a legend died
"I want to thank coach Thompson... for saving my life"
Can't really express much more (oh, both me and the legend that said it too I bet).
Thank you Thompson, Wes Unseld, Sloan, David Stern.
John Thompson was the REAL Cliff Huxtable - a caring father and friend mentor all that RIP
Thank you mr John Thompson cause being in the big East basketball in the 80s at Georgetown their rivalry with Syracuse made a conference and a league
Julian Smith Never will be anything like the 80s Big East!

Greatest defensive basketball coach ever!!!.
I will always remember John Thompson not as a coach but as a father figure to all his player. I can relate to this in 1982 . As a student at UNC I was fortunate to attend the national championship game that year in New Orleans. Fred Brown made a terrible pass to James Worthy an course the rest is history. I managed through the game to work my way to the benches. When Brown made that pass everyone was at a fever pitch. What alot people didn't notice John Thompson made a bee line to Freddy Brown not to scold him, but to hug him and tell him that ok we will get them next year. He was embrassing him if it was his on son. That was the most powerful thing I ever seen. This kid probably blowed your national championship and you are holding him. What a man. Thank you Coach Thompson. RIP. By the way say hi to Dean for me . We sure miss y'all .
Wow..that is real and deep..Rip Coach Thompson
You can cry because he’s gone, but remember to smile because he happened. RIP John Thompson. Such a wonderful example for up & coming black men.
R - I - P Coach Thompson.... Wasnt a Georgetown fan but was a fan of Coach. VERY VERY VERY sad day.
He taught players how to deal wit standing up, speaking, not speaking, Influencing,
leveraging and more.
He didn't go along with what everybody else would say. Didn't copy other people or dodge stuff. He kept it real said and did what was suppose to be said and done.
Great man and great coach. Those Georgetown Hoyas teams with Patrick Ewing in the 80s are iconic. Won the National Championship in 1984 and made the Finals 2 other times
When we were kings.
Just when you think 2020 can’t get any worse
It just keeps getting worse. At this rate the world's gonna end 12/31/2020
People get old and die, he lived a good life, I wouldn’t put this on the list of tragedies of 2020
More to come unfortunately
God bless Mr. John Thompson! This was good stuff! R.I.P.
R.I.P to the legendary coach John Thompson. He will never be forgotten because he put Georgetown University on the map. Georgetown team jackets in the 80's were very popular because of him.
Those nike shoes with hoyas on the back

One of the best ever that towel was legendary!!
"I don't like being called the first black man to win a championship, because that implies that black men were not yet intelligent enough to coach a champion until now."
Big John had the right of it.
Coach Thompson was the same age as Coach Jerry Sloan who also passed at age 78 this year. Both were excellent coaches and both will be dearly missed.

I will miss this man. I have been watching and cheering for him and the Hoyas almost my entire life. As a little girl growing up in Baltimore he reminded me of my father. He had a big presence, a great voice, and a contagious smile. There was a joy and a love you could see in the interactions and the many small moments between him and his players. Georgetown and Basketball were lucky to have had Big John for so many years.

I hope to be remembered and talked about like this when im gone.(even if my friends are lying 😂)
It all depends on us and our actions, little by little and on every little and automatic theme and action, always lies on us, the responsibility and the consequential result.
