My mom ordered this for me yesterday as a present for college and I’m looking forward to it a lot after seeing this review, I have an iPhone 14 Pro and the screen is really nice on it and I use steam link on my iPad Pro a lot with a ps4 controller so I thought this would be even better since it basically turns my phone into an actual handheld, I prefer handheld gaming a lot more than other things where it’s applicable, thanks for the review!

One of the greatest memories I have is playing crash bandicoot with my dad on PS1. Now I get to play Spyro with my daughter on Ps5. Awesome to hear other parents playing games with their kids :-)
I'm two months into owning the same one but for android, have a slim case attached to phone when using so thats a bonus. Love this thing and really like the backbone app, keeps everything organized, not paying for it yet as free for early android adopters right now. Xcloud works great, geforce now is also surprisingly good, ps remote play is prob the most laggy but still playable and super good for my android gaming like codm or diablo. Purchased a set of Skull & Co Thumbstick grips that takes it to next level. Will see how it goes for the next six months and how it holds up.
I just want to point out that this does work with a case. In fact, it works with a fairly thick case on my galaxy s24 ultra, you just need to remove the phone cuffs on either side, which are attached by magnets. Once removed, this easily will fit most phones with a case.
i found one at goodwill for 5$ today... i downloaded COD and am completely destroying everyone. its like they cant feel the screen as well as i can feel the limits of the controller and its a blast im not going to lie. feels like hax L0L
How do we get full Playstation 4 and 5 support without the middle thumb pad? Do they implement a button in place of that on this? Otherwise it's virtually impossible to play nearly all Playstation games. Just was curious to how they get around that.
I had this question before I got it, there are virtual buttons and joysticks that show up when you tap the screen. But you can choose to hide them and the ui when playing with the backbone

I have a disconnection problem with my iPhone 14 Pro Max. It keeps disconnecting every game and even to a point where iPhone displayed an error on screen : accessory not supported. Not happy.

Picked one up yesterday on Amazon for $75. Played for 15 minutes, and returning. Screen is waaaaaay too small for my old eyes and I have a Pixel 8 Pro. Do not buy this if you have problems with your vision for sure. You thought small text was bad on a Steam Deck? Games are virtually unplayable here if you have to read anything.
Not hating on it but what’s the difference between this and buying a $10 clip for my controller so my phone fits on it and remote play that way? Especially since Sony updated their remote play app so that controllers will vibrate. Is it just for Xbox stuff or are people really that into mobile gaming?
@@ssjgGogeta but it’s not wired directly to the console. The only latency that this would be negating is the input from the controller to the phone, which is an improvement, but doesn’t eliminate the latency from the phone receiving inputs, to the console, then the console output
The difference is that the PS5 controllers have an issue with button mapping. Personally, I get crap input from the left analog, which as you'll understand is the primary means of moving any character in most games, making anything unplayable. I have searched the issue online and others are finding that entire buttons don't register. Connecting the controller via Bluetooth gives you no mapping tools, no deadzone adjustment, so if the controller doesn't work, it just doesn't work. So the difference is that the Backbone actually fucking works. - someone who actually tried this "cheaper" way first and wasted $15 on a Dualsense phone connector
i wish i could use it for assistive touch on ios so i can use it as a cursor like the ps5 controller does when u connect it, would allow lots more games to be played

Version 2 does limit you to PS app unfortunately. The one in this video is V1 and let’s you play anything. I wouldn’t recommend the current PlayStation backbone they’re selling
Are you sure? I saw the gen 2 on amazon and it clearly states it supports everything(xbox game pass, ps remote play, geforce now, steam link, xbox remote play etc)

It seems for the PS games like the last of us, you are only able to play through remote play. Therefore you need a PS5 to connect to for either controller.

Will most games just adapt their button layouts to match either Xbox or ps5 layout, or is the Xbox layout more the default per say? The white one looks nicer but if most things default to the Xbox buttons then for the sake of ease of use I’d go for the black one haha.

I think I'll get this, my kishi v1 doesn't charge on my new phone and i just have a deep seated preference for the ps symbols.. also like the headphone jack, it seems more ergonomic than the razer.. hope it'll fit my super long Xperia 1v

Got one today and I really want to like it but I feel like returning it already. Definitely not worth the full price; no rumble, no adaptive triggers, don’t like the loud clicks buttons. I think I would prefer to just get one of those phone mounts for the PS5 controller because I prefer the feel of the DualSense controller. Also the Backbone doesn’t have a button for the Touchpad which is annoying. I will gladly take the free Apple Arcade and Game Pass trials that I got with it but I really got it to play PS Remote Play, so I would rather take that $100 and put it towards a Playstation Portal that I would probably enjoy more.
Sony is really losing market here. They should make one of these that is fully compatible with the ps5 and an app so that you can use your phone as an external screen for whatever you are playing on your ps5... For example in shooting games your phone could show you a carousel of weapons, etc. C',mon Sony.
It's been tried and it failed. There was a short mileu where games had "companion apps" like GTAV did at launch, but just like the Wii U, it's an unintuitive gimmick that didn't catch on
I play mostly games on the App Store and with Rainbow Six Mobile, The Division, and Valorant mobile are coming out next year I kinda want this to just avoid touch controls

No reason why that shouldn't be possible, the usb ethernet adaptors work on android and apple so there's no reason for it not to here, the power cable is just a passthrough

To improve lag on PS remote play you can go into the apps settings and lower the resolution and/or frame-rate at any time

You probably just have to touch the screen twice to hit the touchpad.

No reason why that shouldn't be possible, the usb ethernet adaptors work on android and apple so there's no reason for it not to here, the power cable is just a passthrough
