Dude. I was absolutely blown away by Ep 4! THE PERFORMANCES WERE STELLAR!! And I love how all the characters just feel like real people, even though its in a fantasy show and medieval type time period. Daemon is a frustrated, jealous, bad boy. He just wants people to love, praise him and pay attention to him. He kind of has that Loki energy about him. He loves his brother King Viserys very much, but he's also upset because he wants the Throne for himself. He just wants to 'have it', but it's clear that everyone knows he'll be a terrible ruler. So he lives his life with reckless, impulsive, hedonistic abandon to drown his pain and frustration. Rhaenyra is fed up all her duty bound responsibility. She's also young, the only child, restless and a rebel. She doesn't like being told what to do, how to do it, she makes decisions on her own, she is total leader material. But she's also frustrated because she can't do what she wants. She fancies and envies her uncle Daemon because he's a total bad boy, everything she wishes she could do. And it's true: guys can muck around and be irresponsible, and people seem to be ok with that. But girls can't muck around and will be labelled promiscuous. And she questions why society is like this. Uncle Daemon, being a horrible bad influence, shows her the seedy side of commoner life. And dang, nearly having sex with his niece, that's kind of messed up. But to him, nothing is off-limits, because that's just how he rolls. I guess he could have gone all the way but I think he also decided to stop himself, but he didn't know how to say it, so he just up and left Rhae hanging. Rhaenyra, being young and impressionable, thinks about what Daemon said earlier about marriage being unfun. Everyone has fun on the side kind of thing. And so getting all hot and roused up, she seduces her hot bodyguard Ser Criston Cole. And honestly, they did kind of like each other from the beginning, that even someone as noble and responsible as him, decided to do the nasty. It's just a very human thing that happens. On the other hand, poor Alicent just feels trapped in her marriage situation. As much as she knows why she's there, she knows how the game works but she's also not personally fulfilled. She knows her lot in life is to pop out babies for the King, and she knows politically it's good for the Hightowers and for her Dad, but she also just wants a break from all this duty stuff. She envies her bestie Rhae that at least she gets to select suitors, but on the other hand, Alicent was shuffled into a tactical marriage because there was no other option for the King. King Viserys is a nice guy, but Alicent doesn't exactly love him. And likewise, Viserys will always love his dead wife Aemma. The question is: should Otto have told Viserys about Rhae and Daemon doing the nasty? See the thing is, Otto is a sneaky guy. We can see, yes he plays the loyal good guy hand of the king. But on the flip side, he also has political interests of his own. He told his own daughter to hello-hello the King when he was grieving, to build a rapport so that the king would select her to marry. I mean, it does seem like a 'good intention' that he told the King about the news, but it also can be read that he wanted to smear Rhae so that she would lose her chance at sitting on the Throne. Viserys is obviously horrified by the news and denies everything, but honestly if Rhae didn't tell him to do something about Otto, he would have let Otto still be Hand. Viserys is honestly a nice guy who rather take a softer approach to conflict resolution, he'd probably dismiss the rumor and keep on, because he trusts Otto. But even Rhae had to point out to him, that maybe you need to suspect Otto because if he was a 'good guy', he wouldn't have told. And so Viserys had a think about it, and fired Otto. Alicent and Rhae have a strained friendship because she confronted Rhae about the incident and of course Rhae won't tell the whole story. And also because of their positions of power, things get awkward, because Alicent is now the Queen and is like Rhae's 'Mum' / boss. And now its more complicated because her Dad just lost his job. Rhae just feels like she's being Mum-splained to. Alicent gets the big picture of things but Rhae doesn't, so sometimes she needs to get schooled in order to see. But this only drives them further a part as friends. Anyway, I could go on forever but damn this show is awesome. The performances are all so amazing. And the script writing is just AAA class stuff!
The kings "scares" are totally festering wounds, his whole body is rotting just like his house. You could compare the king's wounds to what's happening in the show. His left hand rotting is like Otto the hand being corrupted and putting himself into power. His wounds on his back are like his brother, his daughter and the sea snake.. all of which have caused a divide in their relationship and the realm, which cannot be healed and will only continue to become more problematic as time goes on
I love the little things in this series. After the night with Daemon, she stops wearing the necklace he gave her. She replaced it with a regular gold necklace. Also with how the kings back and arms are looking, and the trailer for the next episode, I don’t think he has too many episodes left. Otto I feel is going to use Daemons ex, to try and find anything he can to undermine Rhaenyra from being queen, so that Aegon can be king after Vicerys dies from infections.
The kid who told Otto about the brothel visit works for daemon’s ex. He brought her the payment from Otto while she was talking to Daemon in the morning. She is like a cross between Varys and Littlefinger. Runs brothels and uses kids as spies. A very dangerous woman indeed.
I thought that was also Daemon’s plan, to spread the rumour of him and Rhaenyra. But i dont know which one was his thought between intention to marry her (doesn’t think that was true) or wanting the king to see what Otto was liked and wanted his grandson to be the heir.
You left out the part where Damon purposely removed her hat so she could be identified. I think it was his impotence, I dont think he chose not to do it ( at least not consciously).
I think it was an easter egg when she was running through the streets and the eyeless woman was saying would she like to know her own death, and images of the dragon statue breathing fire was shown a few times
I am loving that this whole show revolves around exchanged glances and reading inner turmoil... it seems like a perfect device to trick us into making assumptions. It's also interesting to hear the different content creator's interpretations of what's happening inside Daemon and that read being completely different from person to person.
I think damon took rhaenyra their on purpose to get the rumors going he took off her hat so hair would be seen and that why he don't sleep with her he just wanted people to think so the king would marry Ray to him.
I hear Doug is writing his own fantasy series for canines. It's called Game of Bones. The first casualty of note will be Ned Bark. One of the great villains will be called Dane-aris Barkaryan. I could go on, but I don't want to spoil it for everyone. Although you can be sure every major character will be chewing the scenery.
It’s hilarious 😂. Especially when Ryan confirm Doug saying “thought king guards are supposed to be chasten. Ryan said you’re right and Doug replies Ooh😱🤣🤣🤣
Regarding Otto tattling on Rhaenyra and telling the King; I got the impression Otto didn't want to give up his source because he didn't want to show he was relying on the word of a child, some common boy. Or perhaps he didn't want to subject the young boy to getting his eyes removed by the king
When Viserys kicks Daemon on the floor and says, 'You defiled her!' it reminded me a lot of when Oberyn did the same thing to The Mountain. Makes you think Daemon will have the last laugh eventually.
I don't think otto was feigning concern. He had to steel himself for a minute before then knocking. He was glad of its possible consequences but he's still a friend to Viserys at the end of the day. Also - Alicent wasnt being a queen to rhaenyra, she was mad her friend may have done something to ruin her life, she was coming to warn her that her father knew the rumor and demanded the truth to be able to help her.
Yea he kinda seems like the reverse of little finger to me. He is scheming but beyond just wanting a grandson he hasn’t lied or misled any of the info he actually gives to the king
can we take a moment and thank Ryan for somehow being able to do episode breakdowns for 3 shows all at one time, two with hour long episodes?!?! Hats off Ryan you are the man!
Alicent also ofended Rhaenyra on the previous episode when she stated that giving birth wasn’t so bad and that Aegon came easy, when Rhaenyra’s mom struggled to provide more children up to dying giving birth.
That’s not a Baratheon causing problems in the throne room for house black wood kid version. That’s a Bracken, with the reared horse not a stag. Brackens and blackwoods as everyone knows loathe each other and kill each other. I believe this death is eluded to in the books as one of the major sticking points between the two houses.
I left this episodes with a change of perception of both rhaenyra, and allicent they are no purely good or bad each character has flaw and strength ,and I think this episodes highlight them brilliantly emily ,and milly portray them are fantastic.
What u say about Daeman really isn’t true. He loves his brother dearly and he loves and ends up love loving his niece. He is a family first kind of guy. Yes he is conceded and egotastic but he has real immense love for his brother and his niece. Like he would move mountains for them.
That little kid killing the dude who was talking shit in the beginning with all the suitors, so badass. I did not picture it going that way, what a little badass.
Otto's motives may have been questionable, but he legitimately did not like sharing that info with Vicerys, and Vicerys later giving Otto the ol' heave-ho seemed to break his heart, both for his lost friendship and his lost position. He DID realize he miscalculated, though, which just adds to his sadness about it all.
Instead I think it was actually his intention to sharing that info his apparent reluctance was some kind of reverse psychology to play it as he was sorry for bringing such news, and do you know how I can say it? First because I know psychology, second because Otto actually played all the ruse placing Rhaenyra as subject of the rumor, he suggested that he fucked his uncle willingly, instead of just suggesting that Daemon violated her and thus making her a victing and not an accomplice (and since his disdain for Daemon was very known, it would be clear that there was a conflict of interests) He wanted to delegitimize Rhaenyra and at the same time getting rid of Daemon, a great powermove if he succeeded. Of course, he acted it very well (and Rhys Ifans is an AMAZING actor), he played his king like a fiddle for years but in the end Viserys understood where everything was leading to.

This episode was TERRIBLE. I feel like I’m being gaslit by people saying this show is good. The writing is bad. The acting is melodramatic. The pacing is off. The story is convoluted. And, that accent is dreadful!
I dont understand how you are reading the situation regarding Alicents motives. I think its pretty obvious she is innocent in this whole thing amd is worried NOT jealous...
The young dude killed by even younger Blackwood at the beginning of the episode is not Baratheon, he is Bracken. The rivalry between Blackwood and Bracken houses is a returning motive in GRRM books.
The young man doing the "ribbing" in the early scene is from House Bracken in the riverlands. They are ancient enemies with House Blackwood - typified by the infamous rivalry of the great bastards and half-brothers Aegor Rivers (Bittersteel) and Brynden Rivers (Blood Raven).
Same. Wish the would just age her up with makeup. Would rather keep her and suspend a bit of disbelief than have totally new actresses that may or may not live up to their performances, and I understand she was supposed to be 15 at the beginning and 19 now but she barely looks different anyway, it’s going to be jarring for me having a totally different actress. If she started as an actual kid I would believe it more but I feel like it’s going to be weird since the age jump won’t be as drastic
I may be totally off but I think the last scene with the tea was one last move from Otto Hightower to sow distrust between Rhaenyra and Viserys. Implying that he didn't believe her despite their talk.
I think it’s really important to point out that it’s not a Baratheon that was killed, that was a Bracken. And it’s not just a representation of two suitors fighting for their honor, but rather the Brackens and Blackwoods have long had a rivalry specific between their houses. The Bracken that died is a show invention, but the Blackwood kid is Samwell Blackwood who will go on to be a rather important figure in the Dance of the Dragons. In the books he lost a duel to Amos Bracken when trying to win for Rhaenyra’s hand.
@@Jbreeze3878 I mean yes, that could be her interpretation of it but he got hammered after. I interpret his impotency as coming from something else. Loss of control over the situation. She wasn’t shocked by his actions. She was excited by them. That threw him off I think.
@@aldotheapache9951 This conversation right here serves as a great example of GRRM POV style of story telling. Much is left ambiguous / open to interpretation.
Daemons sword isn't Aegons, blackfyre, its dark sister - visenyas sword. Arya talks about it (or maybe it's shireen baratheon that mentions it, one of the badass girls that like the dragon history)

@ScreenCrush I think you missed a key detail! We learned in a previous episode that Damon struggles to perform sexually, as he did with his mistress. Just as things get steamy with the Princess he steps away. I interpreted this as a failure to perform. While this incidentally protects her 'virtue', I can't see Damon caring about that either. He got what he wanted: the *appearance* of impropriety on her part, almost enough for the King to permit them to marry, but not enough to overcome the King's revulsion. This interpretation of the scene also seems more consistent with the Princess' character. She doesn't want to lie to her friend, and when her friend asks what happened the Princess insists that she didn't have sex with Damon. Either she's lying there (on her mother's memory?) or she's telling a complicated truth. But as the King says later, the truth doesn't matter: what counts ultimately is that the pair seemed to have relations, which was enough for the King's ire.
that is not a Baratheon suitor who gets stabbed by the Blackwood boy..that is a Bracken. Blackwoods and Brackens are rival families of the Riverlands and have hated eachother for centuries
So I think you've underestimated Otto's significance in this series so far. This is the second time we've seen him come to the king with brothel secrets. He told the king about Daemon's heir for a day speech and encouraged him to declare Rhaenara heir instead. His advice (and pimping of his daughter) led to Visaerous being rushed into choosing to marry Allicent, pushing Corylis toward Daemon and war. Then we see him interrupt the king to state that (somehow) showing strength and assisting his brothe and the sea snake would show weakness. Nearly every major development (aside from the Queens death) has been guided or at least started by Otto's decisions.
I don't mind spoilers since it saves me time on what to look for when I watch the episode. I actually wait for both Paul and Ryan to say their takes before I watch the actual episode. I like it that way.. Nice take by the way..
Just some useless info for anyone who may not already know; Sorio Forell, Arya's Dance instructor, wasn't the 1st sword of Braavos; he's a Former 1st Sword, it's title one earns for their fighting prowess; similar to Lord Commander of the King's Guard position. The best fighter in Braavos usually becomes the !st Sword
He didn't "break things off and leave," he had ye ol' erectile dysfunction Daemon had every intention of consummating that little early morning excursion of theirs, but split owing to embarrassment and no longer being in control of the situation.
In all the time it takes to take off that King's Guard armor, you'd think Criston would've thought in that 30 min undress time "I REALLY shouldn't do this, no good can come of it"
I can’t believe how many viewers/reviewers completely missed the fact that daemon has erectile dysfunction which is why he leaves rhaenyra in the brothel… come on people! He doesn’t have shame, regret, whatever. He couldn’t get it up.
Looking at the sigil at the suitor stabbed, that's definetly House Bracken, the history bloody rivals of House Blackwood. Interesting to see the minor houses actually showing their animosity towards each other!
The reason Rhaenyra and Daemon dont continue their coupling is because Daemon has a moment of E.D. and cant get it up. He knows it's wrong. This was clearly pointed out in the Behind the Scenes after the episode.

His wounds on his back are like his brother, his daughter and the sea snake.. all of which have caused a divide in their relationship and the realm, which cannot be healed and will only continue to become more problematic as time goes on
Scars* Sorry. I can't help it.

@@MP-dm1me it was Daemon's plan. He wanted Rhaenyra compromised in the eyes of the king so he could convince the king to let him marry her.
How exactly is old this Mily, actress of young Rhaenyra, cutest kid ever
@@InfamousB9 I believe she is 22 in real life.
You left out the part where Damon purposely removed her hat so she could be identified.
I think it was his impotence, I dont think he chose not to do it ( at least not consciously).
i think Daemon had trouble "performing" in this episode like he did in episode one. Also i believe Daemon has the dark sister sword.
The "Careless whisper" sax and clip inserts ("Danger Zone", "Do it!") were SO good this video! Cracked me up. Keep up the good work!
I think it was an easter egg when she was running through the streets and the eyeless woman was saying would she like to know her own death, and images of the dragon statue breathing fire was shown a few times

Yes! Thought that was so cool.
He would have slept with her, but he had a bout of erectile disfunction. Again.
I hear Doug is writing his own fantasy series for canines. It's called Game of Bones. The first casualty of note will be Ned Bark. One of the great villains will be called Dane-aris Barkaryan. Regarding Otto tattling on Rhaenyra and telling the King; I got the impression Otto didn't want to give up his source because he didn't want to show he was relying on the word of a child, some common boy. Or perhaps he didn't want to subject the young boy to getting his eyes removed by the king
@®️Telegram @ScreenCrush is this one of those scams I see other creators warning their subs about?

When Viserys kicks Daemon on the floor and says, 'You defiled her!' it reminded me a lot of when Oberyn did the same thing to The Mountain. Makes you think Daemon will have the last laugh eventually.
Hey, thanks for cranking up the volume on the show clips a bit. Helps a alot!
I mean they are good but it is literally his full time job. It's not charity.
That's what Game of thrones is all about no character is black or white they all are grey characters and that's what George RR Martin loves about 🤭
Alicent is good in my opinion
What u say about Daeman really isn’t true.
He loves his brother dearly and he loves and ends up love loving his niece. He is a family first kind of guy. Yes he is conceded and egotastic but he has real immense love for his brother and his niece. Like he would move mountains for them.
I agree.
The “Danger zone” bit had me spitting my drink… LMFAO
That little kid killing the dude who was talking shit in the beginning with all the suitors, so badass. I did not picture it going that way, what a little badass.
The other guy brought a dagger to a sword fight xD
He has the blood of the. First men. He could be a Stark ansester.🐺
First because I know psychology, second because Otto actually played all the ruse placing Rhaenyra as subject of the rumor, he suggested that he fucked his uncle willingly, instead of just suggesting that Daemon violated her and thus making her a victing and not an accomplice (and since his disdain for Daemon was very known, it would be clear that there was a conflict of interests)
He wanted to delegitimize Rhaenyra and at the same time getting rid of Daemon, a great powermove if he succeeded.
Of course, he acted it very well (and Rhys Ifans is an AMAZING actor), he played his king like a fiddle for years but in the end Viserys understood where everything was leading to.
That was a Bracken that got killed at the beginning. The Blackwoods and Brackens are constantly fighting each other throughout asoiaf history.
He was wearing a stagg sigil though?

My impression was that Viserys sent the maester himself, because he's not dumb.
Viserys doesn't believe her. I thought that was pretty clear.
it does seem implied that the high maester is kind of working for otto, or at least aligned with him over vis
Wow that "do it" at 16:35 absolutely took me out
I think it’s really important to point out that it’s not a Baratheon that was killed, that was a Bracken.

Where Rings of Power fails, House of Dragons succeeds. This episode reminded me of early Got.
Daemons sword isn't Aegons, blackfyre, its dark sister - visenyas sword. Arya talks about it (or maybe it's shireen baratheon that mentions it, one of the badass girls that like the dragon history)

The edit for this video is just hilarious!
@ScreenCrush
I think you missed a key detail!
The suitor that fought the child from House Blackwood, was from House Bracken, the 2 houses have a long standing blood feud
That tapestry line was really tipping into a Hot Fuzz vibe 😆
I like the fact that they mentioned Jon in this episode by acknowledging the prince that was promised prophecy and in a much cooler way.
This is a book reference about young Griff/Aegon the real Prince that was promised not Jon strong whose not a targaryen
@@garyb8055 actually Jon is a targaryan

The guy to dieat the hand of the boy from Blackwood was actually from House Bracken but the sigil is facing the other side I blame that on editing.
