    i love how they very effectively used the additional sound chip to give more life to this soundtrack, and it makes me appreciate how the NES version's lack of it provides a unique tone to the game that makes playing both a little worthwhile

      The NES version has a different damage system. Every enemy hits for the same amount of damage, and this uniform value increases throughout the game, where as Akumajou Densetsu has a list for the amount of damage each enemy and shot does to you and everything stays the same forever. The NES version is much more unforgiving.

    • @Nukle0n
      @Nukle0n 9 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      cyberholix Uhh, in some situations? Sure. But having special chips and a lot of ROM space made games extremely expensive. A game like Chrono Trigger which had NO extra chips cost $80-90, simply because it had so many megabits.

    • @cyberholix
      @cyberholix 9 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      This was the case, but now? Flash memory is going cheaper and cheaper every month, MCUs and ARMs are already as cheap as a bottle of a good beer. Vita and 3DS' carts are dangerously growing to DVD's size. On the other side, the rows of optical discs are already VERY SMALL and prone to errors. Maybe the holographic technology is slowly arriving, but we NOW have printable transistors, which make even 256GB cards very cheap - but it's rather question of factories availability when it will be available to us.
      I think electronics will win that battle. ALL HAIL CARTS

    • @Nukle0n
      @Nukle0n 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      cyberholix It's still 5 dollars for 16gb of flash memory vs 50 cent for a 50gb BD. It's NEVER gonna catch up, and if it does it'll long since have been replaced by digital.

    It's truly amazing how much this sounds 16 bit. They really pushed the hardware for this soundtrack. Too bad it's not like that in America... :(

    • @blendmaster3456
      @blendmaster3456 9 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      They didnt push any hardware. Nintendo's license terms in Japan allowed developers to add third party MMC chips to the game cart, so Konami used their own VRC6 for two extra square and a sawtooth channel. The american soundtrack isnt as good, because they were restricted to the existing NES hardware.

    • @DxDeksor
      @DxDeksor 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ASSympt0te Yes, and if you put a famicom game into a NES, it doesn't sound like the famicom because the NES is missing one sound channel. But you can very easily reactivate it vith one resistor that you have to put on the pins of the weird and useless connector that is under the nes. There are tutorials for that on the web, but you just need 1 component and 2 solders. It's very very easy (I live in Europe, so for me it's useless since that if I put famicom games in my european nes, the game would be slower. Fuck 50hz >< ... I need an american NES

    The first, and the VERY best rendition of this track ever. Every iteration of this song after this one has been a dumbed-down version that while good, will never live up. If you split up the individual tracks of this JP version in an NSF player, the complexity and ridiculously smart composition becomes apparent. Not to mention it's a fucking catchy track.

    It wouldn't have been possible to use the VRC6 expansion in the US version. If anything, they had to spend MORE time figuring out how to rearrange the music back to 5 sound channels and still make it sound kickass. I think they did a great job with porting the music. :)
    I should add - The Famicom itself doesn't have better audio per say, it just allowed for sound expansion. The audio of the extra channels is produced inside the game cart, like the Super Game Boy for the SNES.

      regularsharp It IS hard, but for me it makes much fun without friggin Censores(not-fixed Grant

    •  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Julius Cirkel You forgot the apply the fan made English translation patch to the game which is way better than the original US version in term of story telling.

    •  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      regularsharp You better don't know then, how hard the US version is. So much bullshit difficulty curve things. Enemies dealing more an more damage as you progress, there are more bats, some enemies have more HP etc... But at least it has the HELP ME code. How appropriate.

    What I’ve realised about this is that it’s actually a more intense version of Castlevania 2’s town theme, it’s part of the reason I love it so much

  • @spike007980
    @spike007980 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @SOUTHWESTENZ It was the general localization of demand of more gaming from Konami, the action grandaddy of games. I believe it was rushed for American cartridges and took no time to actually figure out the music. Not only that, by the time Number 3 was announced, in the background where we don't see plot or development of games. Konami was planning their best fucking castlevania ever "SUPER CASTLEVANIA IV" It took on the "Super" gimmick from SNES. But it certainly was the best fucking CV EVER.

    @spike007980 Have to disagree there. SCV4 was a step back for me. None of the branching paths or alternate characters of this game or Rondo of Blood (the best CV if you ask me). The multi-directional whip took away the threat level of enemies, on top of that, making the game too easy.

    well, if you count mindless button-mashing shooters as games, which i dont. out of the 3 he mentioned, cod is the worst offender. it is the worst of the 3. even worse, its re-released with a different subtitle every fucking year.

    Yeah, but it actually wouldn't have required any hardware to do so: all it would have been is an electrical connection (and maybe a resistor to balance the volume).

    its Because the Famicom Carts use the Konami VRC6 Chip, which makes audio soooo much cleaner, why NES carts didn't get these is beyond me, and makes me sad =/
