blew me away watching you're video. Now I'm going back to live in Alaska soon I got to buy all new fleece base layers. And use my wool on warmer days thank you for the video new sub.
ProLite Gear covers the topic of baselayers, helping you understand how different fabrics used in baselayers will perform, and covering some of the interesting aspects of how different baselayers absorb moisture. View test results here: www.prolitegear.com/site/best-baselayer-reviews.html
I'm also aware to some extent merino does not wick as well as synthetic. But I'm curious to know your views / results on heat retention? I would give it to wool on that count. Is there ever an argument for wool over synthetic in outdoor situations?
The job of the base layer is to wick. The job of the mid-layer is to insulate. For a base layer, I go for wicking without worrying about heat retention.
Timmy Bobinson go for synthetic. Wool will soak in moisture in time and get wet and cold. Synthetic will not. Go for the base layer that’ll suite you. Personally, I’d go with something for extreme cold for in case of emergency or very low temperatures. That way you’d be ready for anything and if not that cold then with this layer, you wouldn’t need to many layers on top of this.
Don't ask the guy what time it is, he will explain how to build a swiss watch. GEEZ just tell me which one worked best...mechanically agitate, mechanically agitate, mechanically agitate, mechanically agitate.

You need to review KUIU merino wool. They claim their product is warmer and dries faster than standard merino clothing.
I only asked for you to do one of these videos yesterday... Spooky! Great video as always. Thanks.
Wow what a review. Awesome loved it. Very interesting stuff here.

this guy loves to say "mechanically agitate".
"If you are in a desert, you may want to dunk your baselayer in a creek"
Creeks in a desert..... Interesting...
I love my Merino Wool but as a dim witted guy...I found my eyes glazing over watching the video ... like I was in science class @1977. :)
