That's not Henry Rollins 😅 but I did get a good chuckle. This song is about two of Phil's childhood friends who committed suicide. It's meant to be cryptic, sort of. He didn't want to be disrespectful to his friends, and he didn't want to be too on the nose because then it wouldn't mean as much to as many people as he hoped to reach, and because he wanted to write a song people would want to listen to, and not something maudlin or cheesy. He wrote it from the perspective of a guy who built his whole life around a girl who then died and left him struggling to live. It's about loss, really, and going on living after such a trauma. Phil's good at writing lyrics that someone can listen to and interpret in a way that makes sense to them or to apply it to their own experience.
Pantera is known for one of greatest bands of all time for metal music. For me and for most people who play guitar, Dime is the best of all time, and for some he isnt, but he 100% changed the way you play. He was so unique, technique, sound, vibrato, legato EVERYTHING man. He came to rock and rocked like no other. You should do more Pantera like Hollow , Floods, This love... There you can really feal the lyrics and GUITAR aswell
"Dime is the best of all time" Heck yes. Often I feel Solos are just there because it's the norm and don't give anything to a song. (depends on band) But with Dime, the riffs, the Solos..... ALL just hit hard. The way he approach it, is just damn growy and Tasty
"The guitar is like another voice" is the best way to describe how Dimebag Darrell played guitar. He was the best at what he did! Also, Phil Anselmo's vocals are insane on this entire album. From the aggressive metal vocals, to beautiful cleans, to Rob Halford-style highs. "Cowboys from Hell" is such a landmark album.
I was lucky enough to have seen them twice during this tour and once more later when they opened for Black Sabbath. Amazing musicians all four. RIP Vin and Dimebag
The main official music video for this song chopped off the slow part at the start, the first 90 seconds or so. I dunno why they did it that way, either to make the video shorter or just because it was a different style than the rest of it. Most reactors use the short version, I'm glad you found the full length version.
The song is about a guy whose girlfriend/wife dies and he is extremely bitter about it. Spends years raging over the unfairness of her being taken away but then finally comes to grips with it. A TIME HEALS ALL WOUNDS kind of thing. Thank you again for giving Pantera another try. I think I'm going to send you in a new direction. You might like this new band.... Muhahahahaha!!!
It was actually about two people that were in a suicide pact together and only one followed through with it. Unlocking your car door or passing a cemetery is considered to be a way of inviting hitchhikers from the graveyard into your life according to some old school Southern cultures. It originally had more personal lyrics but they changed them hoping it wouldn't be too personal and open for interpretation to a wider audience
The song goes through the emotions of a funeral. Sadness, guilt, anger, and coming to peace with it all, or not. You've obviously haven't felt it. You will. Blessings. 🙏💛
You talking about Henry Rollins? Nope. Also, if you are looking for a warm fuzzy feeling from Pantera, this and their cover of Planet Caravan are about all you get. Most people love them for how aggressive they are.
@@MaddyReactionsYeah definitely not Henry Rollins. I'm still catching up on your videos and if you did Liar I absolutely have to watch that one!! Great song!!
I haven’t listened to more than a few seconds but I already know you did something right that 95% get wrong. You are listening to the full version. I’m looking forward to this.
Most really good rock songs are not unlike good sex, starting slow then building up as time progresses. Rock is full of great , slow building songs like Stairway to heaven , Cemetary gates, etc.
My favorite PANTERA song, mainly because it shows how versatile they could have been had they kept going as long as METALLICA has been around. Sometime after 2000 the Abbot brothers and the singer parted ways. The bass player played with both camps on and off over the years that lead up to Dime's assassination (from an angry PANTERA fan). Rex and Phil have recently revived the band as a tribute to the Abbot brothers (who are both gone now) with Zakk Wylde (one of Dime's closest friends) on guitar. I can't recall the drummer playing with them now, but he is well-known.
I can't speak for everyone, but when I watch a reaction video I'd like to see the person being moved by something that has moved me. Pantera doesn't sit in a genre that appeals to everyone, but musically they were geniuses. That being said Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb, imo is one of the most moving songs (musically) ever written. Their lyrics are philosophy and the guitarist is like no other. You should probably react to studio versions as most of the time that's going to be the best version
This was one of my favorite reaction videos you watched! The surprise amd fear when it started getting heavy, then saying you were tricked! So awesome, you are a trooper though!
Speaking of _"Intense"..._ Fact is... "I'm Broken" was just a punch to the stomach compared to this... Cemetery Gates is rather like a punch to our soul! Sang with all my lungs at the _Gods Of Metal_ in Milan back in the day when Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath were back together again for the "Reunion" album. I was there, one bour show right before Black Sabbath. My first ever Heavy Metal _live_ concert... the best experience of my entire 5O years of a lifetime ever. PS: as many other will say to you... their song _"Walk"_ is another pearl you cannot miss, Maddy...
The song is about grief and how it can leave you feeling lost and alone and how avoiding dealing with it will have long term effects. In the first part he said "when she died, I couldn't cry, the pride was in my soul" then later it changed to "when she died, I should have cried and spared myself some pain". The priest isn't who thought, the person you were thinking about is Henry Rollins.
Pantera texas boys dime bag guitarist was shot and killed on stage by a so called fan, vine Paul drummer died just a few years ago, great reaction legendary band for sure have a great day! 😐😊
You can tell when people don't really care much for the song by how they only talk about the lyrics and what the song is about, and never mention the music. It's not for everyone I guess.
Your ok with your interpretation. 😂 Pantera is one of the best metal bands or (pioneers) metal groove bands you ever going to hear. They set the tone during a time when grunge trend was ruling the day and everything else metal was falling off the map. …. Yet they were still hitting arenas 🔥

I mean... just because an intro is acoustic doesnt mean the entire song is that way, was hoping you held pantera to abit of a higher standard :P afterall, they are supposed to be heavy af. Hope you got some enjoyment out of it anyway

The drummer they are touring with now is from Anthrax as mentioned here.
