It's a good story for TV but there's no way that's true. If Hogan had really wanted it he could've gotten it during the multiple months between when George Foreman had the prototype and said he wasn't interested to when his wife finally convinced him to endorse the product. But it's certainly more entertaining with the way Hulk tells it.

Think you're rewriting history mate, they were on equal par at their peaks, and The Rock probably grew into the bigger star when Austin had a year off. Remember Rock was only around for about four or five years full time, in that time span he did more than most wrestlers have in their entire careers combined. He then left before he got seriously injured like Austin did and went on to be equally as big in Hollywood.

Austin carried the WWE on his back against its biggest rival, WCW. There’s nothing more iconic in wrestling history than hearing the glass shatter and watching Austin walk to the ring. The Rock was great too. One of the greatest heals in history, but no wrestler will ever touch the persona of the rattlesnake. It redefined wrestling, it became bigger than just matches and small conflicts. Austin took on the entire WWE. And you never knew what he was gonna do. Austin will always be the greatest thing to ever happen to wrestling.

Do people forget just how big/popular Stone Cold was at his peak?
With the exception of Hulk Hogan nobody, and I mean nobody came close to being as adored as Steve Austin. Not Flair, not HBK, not Cena and not The Rock.
I remember going to school and seeing 3:16 sprayed on walls and written on the backs of bus seats. Walking around in school was often dangerous because out of nowhere a friend or some random kid would kick you in the balls and attempt to give you a stone cold stunner.
It really was a phenomenon and The Rock has never gotten anywhere near the crazy level of worship that people gave Steve Austin back then.

The cartoon Hulk Hogan's Rock 'n' Wrestling on Saturday mornings is what got me hooked on wrestling as a kid. His match with Andre the Giant at WrestleMania III was HUGE. Looking back on it now the match wasn't all that great, but back then as a young kid it was epic. Also, Hogan vs. Ultimate Warrior and Hogan vs. Macho Man were huge matches. I didn't watch much wrestling during the WCW/n.W.o. days, but I think Hollywood Hogan vs. Sting would have been an interesting storyline. If I were able to relive my childhood I would love to have gone to a WWF event and see Hulk Hogan and the rest of those crazy characters live.
