Need decor tips for a stairwell or hallway? P. Allen Smith reveals the finished stairway and upstairs hallway for the Garden Home Challenge! For the stairwell, functionality and decor meet to create a welcoming transition from downstairs to upstairs. Moving into the upstairs hallway, track lighting provides a modern touch and creates a sense of openness. In contrast, the beadboard ceiling and agricultural photographs reinforce the farmhouse chic theme found throughout the house.
In the Garden Home Challenge, planning, design and craftsmanship converge when designer and lifestyle expert P. Allen Smith and his colleagues build an environmentally friendly designer home for $150,000 in 150 days on his Moss Mountain Farm in Arkansas. I love your home. it is so colorful and beautiful. I love the blue chest in the hallway. I am chalk painting an old low antique dresser as we speak. I have watched you for years. you inspire me from inside to outside the house. you have a great eye to make something old or trashy into a treasure. thank you so much for blessing us with your gift.

I LOVE the hall and the chicken drawings! I have a small 19c drawing of two pigs and two donkeys on the farm enjoying themselves in the poke and it is just wonderful! Kimberly

I like the big picture for the hall but when I saw the wall space there I thought a woven colorful wall hanging would give the hall interest, texture amd offer a pop of color.

I love the pencil drawing of the birds. I also saw a gorgeous painting or print of a pumpkin. It would be lovely placed on a wall. You definitely need a hand rail for the stairs. Most people need to have a way to rebalance themselves once in awhile. ** What a beautiful thing.... the pictures of the hands that helped to make Moss Mountain Farm. Awesome !!

After putting the paint on he floor what do you coat it with after painting. I don’t see any family pictures in the entire house. I have college pictures of my husband’s family and one of my family.

I love these pictures in the hallway. On the other side I would like a shallow shelf with a collection of something (perhaps animal bells - because I like them).

I am really enjoying these reveals :) Your sense of decorating is so classic yet easy going and fun. I would LOVE to have your help with decorating my space anytime, but I am sure I couldn't afford it LOL.

Each reveal is more beautiful than the previous. Your taste is impeccable. My Oscar Madison persona cannot fathom living in it, however. Arthritic knees would struggle up those lovely stairs without rails leaving hand and shoulder prints to mar the snow white walls. Hope your brother's family is in better shape. (Does no one watch TV? Where? And what happened to the moose head . . . LOL!) Otherwise, GORGEOUS!

Love this house!! Question though... are you going to put up hand rails in the stair well? Many places it's required by code. I'm just thinking of the safety factor.

I love the hand photos. How about framing some black and white plans of the house or a series of seasonal photos of the farm?

Love everything except those door knobs. Those brushed metal looking knobs really cheapens the look and takes away from the character. But that’s an easy enough fix! I think antique brass would have looked the part. Possibly have the picture frames in the hallway be a wood tone, that would warm up the modern sterile black and white that the whole room is.
