    This video has shown me that we want everything microwavably fast. 🥓🥓🥓There's no way overlapped bacon is going to be cooked on a plastic container in 3-5 minutes when is constantly being brought back to room temperature. Now that you have done this video (which is definitely appreciated) I think you should cook the same cut style of bacon, and do it for 5 minutes CONSISTENTLY.

      Actually pigs are not that large compared to a few other countries. Pork legs here are a lot smaller than I've seen overseas. It is just that our bacon is the loin part plus some of the belly. Instead of just the belly used for streaky bacon. Trouble is the loin part can get dry easily

    • @Matt19matt19
      @Matt19matt19 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's more than one type of bacon in one strip, it looks like the back bacon, which is more common in countries outside America, as in America they use what's called streaky bacon as their standard bacon, the streaky bacon is attached to the back bacon in gregs piece. If that makes sense, so normally what gregs using would be cut into two.

  • @DerekArmsden
    @DerekArmsden 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Most of that liquid in the tray isn't fat, it's the salt solution (AKA brine, ie water, salt & sugar) they inject into cheap supermarket bacon. Buy good bacon from a local butcher and you won't get all that liquid, AND it'd crisp up better because it wouldn't be steaming.

    • @DerekArmsden
      @DerekArmsden 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Uncle Rico I'm talking about the cheap stuff in bulk packs (that this looks like). The ingredients are generally as follows (from Coles website for Dandy bacon): "Pork (85%), Water, Cure [Salt, Sugar, Mineral Salts (451, 450), Antioxidant (316), Preservative (250)]. Naturally Wood Smoked. Manufactured Meat". So 15% is added water. As an aside, most of the cheap bacon is made with imported pork with less than 18% Australian meat. They don't publish ingredients for the deli bacon but it's largely wet brined, as opposed to dry smoked, and the brine is… water, salt, and sugar.

    The easy answer to this, Grego? If you feel you must have a rasher or two, use a frying pan, preferably a fairly heavy one. Microwave ovens are useful for some things, but their usefulness is, shall we say, somewhat limited. And do try not to go and burn your fingers; that's generally something to avoid while cooking. Very good video as always. Thanks.

    Grego perfect crispy bacon is do-able in a microwave and its better than fried. But you have to use the right bacon. Buy a pack of Aldi thin and crispy bacon. Take 2 pieces and split them down the middle so you have 4 strips. Place them on a paper plate lined with a couple of paper towel sheets. put them the microwave on full power for 5 minutes or until the bacon stops popping. Take them out and leave them to crisp up for a couple of minutes. Its a ball tearer!

    I'm late to this one but anyway. First off I still cannot get over the bacon cuts you have Down Under! It's huge! (insert joke here) I have to find something like this stateside. As for the nuking platter I've had one of these for about 15 years. They're decent when used correctly I'd suppose, but I prefer to cook my bacon old school style exclusively on cast iron as I did even before microwave ovens. When I WAS in a hurry to cook some bacon I'd put 5 or 6 slices on the platter, cover with a paper towel, and nuke for 6 minutes for the crispy bacon I prefer. It's generally 1 minute for every slice of bacon you put in. And keep the nuker going. Try not to keep checking. Great vid Greggo and thanks again!

    I just had a BLT for dinner with 4 slices of bacon (American style) cooked in the microwave on paper towels. It took 3:30 to cook to my liking which is moderately crisp. I always cook my bacon in the microwave, I like it better than being all greasy from the pan.
    I think the reason your bacon took so much longer is that the timing in the instructions looked like it was for American style rather than Aussie bacon. Being that your bacon is so much bigger, a longer cooking time makes sense.

    Now that's a slab of proper bacon. It's been scientifically proven by the bacon scientists that the best way to cook bacon is under the grill at 220°c. The fat goes golden and crispy crunchy and it cooks quick so the meat doesn't dry out and become tough.

    I drain out the salty water after 2 minutes, then after 4 minutes the 6 rashers are crispy.

    Interesting Greg0. Give me frying pan, barbecue or roasted bacon anytime. As far as I'm concerned microwaves are good for re heating food.

    I couldn't stand checking it every minute, drive me nuts, I'd just go for 2min blasts. That bacon fat would be yummy in something else, for sure

    Pan-fry bread in the bacon fat, or pour it into a jar and let it harden in the fridge, spread it on bread or toast then sprinkle sugar on top!
    The times are based on a 1000 Watt oven. You're also losing a lot of heat faffing around filming with it out of the oven.

    the best microwave bacon cookers are the one where it hangs from a thing and isnt touching very much. this one you have will never make it super crispy when that lid basically just steams the bacon
