This track was produced by Arthur Baker, who in the 80's and early 90's was a very big producer and remixer with a distinctive sound. He is the one who uses the xylophone on most of his tracks. The male voice in the background is Daryl Hall of Hall and Oates! He co-wrote the song with his wife Sara Allen and Ms. Ross.
@@lamusiclover2264 You may find this interesting - Baker did an extended remix of Hall & Oates’ “Dance On Your Knees” in 85. There are vocal parts that sound backwards. If you reverse them, they are Hall singing blurbs from “Swept Away!” Maybe from a demo? 80s music trivia! 🤣
Co-produced by Arthur Baker. Similar sound as other songs he produced like Arthur Baker ‘Breakers Revenge’, Cindy Mizelle ‘This Could Be The Night’, Xena ‘Only Love (Shadows)’ and Afrika Bambaataa & The Soul Sonic Force ‘Frantic Situation’.
Yaaas Empress! 🔥 Amazing vocal by Miss Ross! Looking fierce as ever! Fun campy video! What more could you want? And the album jacket opened up so you could hang it on the wall and stare at Ross in all her fierceness. (Most of her 80s albums did.) ❤️👍👍
This was the best of her 80s albums and it deserved to sell better than it did. All of You (duet with Julio Inglesias) and Swept Away should have been Top 10 hits, and Missing You (her tribute to the late Marvin Gaye) should have been another #1 for Diana (unfortunately, the Commodores released their own Gaye tribute song - Nightshift - at the same time, which stole Missing You’s thunder.) The final track, a remake of Bob Dylan’s Forever Young, is a real gem and definitely one of the best songs Diana Ross has ever recorded. You can hear how much effort went into making (and marketing) this album. She must have been quite disappointed that it didn’t perform better.
...OH, SHIIIIII--- (6:55) .... ***MISS ROSS TRIVIA TIME!!!!*** ....let's get Swept awaaaaaayyyy..... ...Oh, was this a big, big, big BIG (4 week) #1 Dance hit, Sept., 1984!! ...The Video was 'kitchen sink' Diana, with EVERYTHING thrown in to get her MTV play...but, People actually thought it was too 'campy' to get on MTV! ...didn't matter, her core audience made it a hit...G-Y MEN! - ...The tune was produced by Daryl Hall (of Hall & Oates) (5:23); he gave it to Diana, after he wrote "Out Of Touch", to be included on H&O's "Big Bam Boom" Album...which hit #1 Dec., 1984.... - The "Swept Away" Album showed Miss Ross in FIGHTIN' spirit; She came off of 2 lackluster Albums (& the '83 Central Park debacle), and needed **HITS** ....She actually got her LAST Top 10 Pop hit with the 2nd single, "Missing You" (#10 Pop, #1 R&B)... She also had "All Of You (w/ Julio Iglesias)" (#18 Pop), "Telephone (#12 R&B), & The UK hit "Touch By Touch".... - ....The Video starred (the late) Shabba Doo as the abusive Love interest...Empress, he was....EV-ERY-WHERE, in 1984!! ...EVERYWHERE! ...and the Video was one the FIRST that had an 'Extended Version" for the Clubs...Miss ROSS, 'Swept' EVERYONE away, then! ..The tune peaked at #17 Pop....
Empress, yes this is one of Diana's many US dance number one songs. Fantastic, one of the first Diana songs that got heavy rotation on MTV back in the day. I love her 80s RCA work. Such a change from the Motown stuff. (Which I love) But empress, rather than reacting to the same songs that other reactors do... Such as I'm coming out, upside down etc. Try some of her return to Motown stuff from 89 (the entire Workin' Overtime album) 91 (The entire The Force Behind The Power album, which spawned 7 singles and went platinum in Europe) Don't just stick to what were hits in the US. So much other gems. From there go to The Best Years Of My Life single, then more tracks from the Take Me Higher album and Everyday is a New Day album, such great songs. 😍
You listen to luther vandross music he has great collection of his songs in his catalogs like so amazing, wait for love, don't you know that, the night I fell in love,I don't want to be a fool, your secret love, the night I fell in love,I can make ot better
This one should have been HUGE in the charts. And it was, but mainly in the dance charts. LOVE THIS ONE!!
Dang!!! Love your hair Empress!!!
thanks
Some of her best vocal work here. Daryl Hall from Hall and Oates wrote this track and he’s singing background
oh wow!
Her vocals are so damn amazing here! It's pop, rock, soul, and hip hop all in one! Ahead of the curve IN 1984!

Oh wow! Hall & Oates on the track😮
I have the 12” single. The remixes are great (and there this much more Hall singing!)
@@NoCanDu I have it too. It's a great remix.

The original Diva Boss Lady ❤💯
the hair and earrings make you look your prettiest Empress. such a great song and love that rock edge and those growling vocals from Mr. Ross.

Love it!!
Title track. This is 80s gold. Diana Ross got the little growl going on. Had to be a big dance hit.
....a four week #1 Dance hit (all of Sept., 1984)!!! ...We went NUTS, back in the Day!
I want muscles 💪 is my fun favorite of Ross tunes. Written by MJ and also providing back up vocals.
gotta hear it!

Great music
Diana Ross swept away
Love this song. I never understood why it was not a single in the UK.
wow! such a missed opportunity
@@EmpressReacts yes it was. I never understood who was deciding the release of singles at RCA around the world for Ms Ross in the 80s.
From what my mom said, this was huge on MTV back in the day. Also was a dance hit as well
🔥

My mom used to say she saw this on MTV back in the day.
Oh wow! That's the dude from Madonna's Who That Girl Tour! Interesting! And ppl thought this was too campy in the 80s😂
One word: " I C O N !"
💯💯💯
Like the Hoop Earrings Empress!! Given us a little Jodie Watley there!
Please react to Diana's "I'm coming out"

Great song....You've got to do Stephanie Mills "Home" live from Sinbad's Summer Jam. Such a good performance!!
☑️
Try "Upside Down" or "I'm Coming Out"
And Mirror Mirror too!
@@jeffreygriffin7248 Yes! One of my favourite RCA years tracks! Great suggestion 👍
