One of my FAVORITE album covers of hers!! Still looks great today! I LOVED this album especially “Swept Away.” Great song!! She needs to do another pop album like this for 2024!
I love Swept away. It's fast and got alot feeling in it. Power and her Voice was at its peak. Her high and strong ♥️♥️♥️♥️. I loved " Swept away". Eaten alive " muscle " No One gets the prize " Once in the morning " The Boss " One for all " One more Chance " Work that body " Telephone " Love hangover " Don't rain on my parade " . So many more jams by Miss Ross.🌟💛💖💕. October 1 ,2023 Sunday morning 🌄
All of you was also a huge hit in Latin América where Julio Iglesias was the most famous singer (by far) during the 70's and 80's. In my country (Perú) All of you used to be one of the most well known songs by Diana Ross.
If you search All of you video Risas y Salsa you can find a parody of the video clip in a peruvian humor program calleď Risas y Salsa which usted to be the N1 humor program in peruvian tv during the 80s.
Thank you, I learned so much. For me this was a playful, fun loving, and sensuous album. The shocking cover had my friends asking, "Is that Diana Ross??" I look forward to your next episode. 👍
Another great video! I love this album - probably her best, most cohesive work during the RCA era. Several big hits - and "Missing You" is such a classic (which I have only occasionally seen her do live in concert). It still seems strange that the very next record - Eaten Alive - was doomed by the choice of lead single here in the US. The next single -"Chain Reaction" - deserved to be #1 here!
Great album. RIP Bernard Edwards was a bass player. The legendary CHIC Nile Rodgers played guitar on the LP. According to the late Tony Thompson drummer of CHIC, he also played on the LP but was not credited among the musicians.
"You and I are on an island Where I thought the storm would never end", and the following year she met the love of her life on an island. A star like Diana Ross has to be seen in her entirety, which is why your videos are so inspiring. I have a particular opinion on the RCA period that she's become a much better performer. Of course, she did some stellar songs long before that, but at RCA, her songs reflected her state of mind and her life. As she said "I choose songs that reflect where I am at that moment". Whether the songs are good or bad is not the point. Time has passed, and the diversity of musical styles may be perceived as a desire to experiment. At the time, I had the impression that she was desperately looking for a way to sound different from Motown and have a hit. On "Swept Away" we have the best of Diana Ross's styles. Missing you, the powerful ballad, Swept, a razor-sharpe performance, the ethereal sensuality of Telephone, the soap opera glamour of All of You, the girly Touch by Touch, and the kind of cheesy message song that only she knows how to make moving, Children of The World.
Love swept away, the album cover is gorgeous!! Great review as always! Just an FYI the make up for the album was done by Way Bandy the first time kevyn Aucoin worked with Diana was for the vanity fair cover in 1989
Thank you Dan, You are so right I had confused Kevin Aucoin's interview about the black eye makeup with this photo session. Thank you for giving credit to Way Bandy .
This is a great, insightful review. This album takes me back to my school days! It's a great, eclectic selection of songs, but...I never understood why the sublime "Fight For It" wasn't included in the album? This track was the B side to the "Touch By Touch" single here in the UK. I've always loved the awesome new wave groove. This was the best showcase of Diana as singer/songwriter/producer imo. Omitting it from the album was a mistake. Oh well, c'est la vie! Btw..."Telephone" was a huge turntable hit in the south east of the UK back in the day. It wasn't released as a single, but it was a popular in the clubs. It's such a hot tune!!
hey philippe, love your insight and observations on the great diana ross. BTW.... I am sure you know, it's Barbra not Barbara as your closed caption shows and it's Fontella Bass, not Fontenella. Swept Away is an intense and most interesting tune written by Daryl Hall. The extended version is awesome. Cheers!
This is a good album. I don't like some of the songs much at all, but the releases are all strong and they did well. Swept Away and All of You both went to 19, which seems very coincidental. They're both in the "forgotten hits" category, as Diana only sang SA during the album tour and I don't think she ever sang All of You live, at least as far as I know. (She's completely willing to sing Endless Love with various backup singers. It's odd she's never sung AoY.) Neither has ever been mentioned in interviews or reminiscences. The video for All of You is a mid-80s time capsule. It looks like a party scene on Dynasty. All of You Telephone was an R&B hit, but not a pop hit. Interesting connection to the "diana" album. 1984 seems lke a lifetime from 1980. I love Scavullo. A great photographer who doesn't get the critical acclaim I believe he deserves.
Nice overview. Wondering if there’s a reason you didn’t elaborate on her vocal in Swept Away, as it’s one of her rangiest and strongest of her career. She really went for it. Her vocal on Missing You was also outstanding, such great precision at the peak of the song. She played a lot with her voice from song to song in this album, perhaps more than any other album. Thanks for the review. Love hearing another fan gush.
"I Liked This Album, Did Not Love It, Because, To ME It Was Trying To Do To Many Things, Great Songs On It, But The Fillers Were Atrocious To ME, "Rescue Me", No One Can Do It Better Than Fotella Bass And She Wasn't Even Supposed To Do It, But She Did And The Rest Is History, Love 💕 Almost All Of 'Swept Away' Album, But Not All I Will Revisit It Now And Maybe Feel Different"...😅❤😇🎉
My favorite tracks on that album is Telephone and Nobody Makes Me Crazy.
❤It's Your Move❤2023❤ Lady Diana❤

The video for Swept Away, is one of her best videos, along with Pieces of Ice.
I so enjoy your commentary and insights on these albums -thank u ❤
Francesco Scavullo also did the cover of Donna Summer's Once Upon a Time album, where she looks like a goddess.
THE BEAUTIFUL BOSS

Thank you Charles
My favorite songs on the album are Swept away and Missing you. I think that this was her best album for RCA after Diana

I think she hosted the AMA show when she did Touch By Touch, not the Grammys.
Absolutely, and that is why I put in bold lettering in the middle of the screen 14th AMA !

Another great review. What are your thoughts on the great Natalie Cole? Would you consider doing a series on her albums?
Love Miss Cole, I did a review of Natalie Live ! It's in the favorite live albums playlist. I think I will do some more . Thank you Sir James .
