I return to Cookson Street in Blackpool town centre to follow up on my hugely popular red light district vlog filmed back in the summer of 2020. In this video I expand a little on how the massage parlours/saunas are allowed to operate in this area, as well as finding a couple of new places I did not cover on the first video.

I remember when st Johns market used to be across the road from the bus station. Always loved the smell of the sweets as you walked in.

another excellent and informative video Stephen as always , certainly changed a lot since i had my honeymoom there back in 1979 where i spent a lot of the evenings in the Jenks bar Talbot square where the resident band then doing summer season was sad cafe . sadly long gone now
Jenks was the place to go back in the day. It’s had many different reincarnations since, but you’d perhaps be surprised that the building still exists and in normal (pre-Covid) times, it is still a popular club.

Just because one of those massage parlour/knocking shops looks closed, doesn't mean that it is closed for business. I'm sure there is plenty of action going on in those beds upstairs lol. Glad to see a follow-up video. No surprises that the view-count for this video and the one previously on the red-light district of Blackpool is so high. That will be because it will get lots and lots of shares to peoples Facebooks and many groups and pages on Facebook. Quite a few that are Private Groups, knock-knock...hint-hint lol ;) The owners of these places should give you commission for these videos. I bet they've made plenty more money as a result of it.
Thanks for watching. I wouldn't be surprised if my first video increased the traffic for these places. Maybe they also have back doors for those people that are apprehensive about being seen going in, so you might be right about them not necessarily being closed even if they look so.

We came to Blackpool as children great memories of the town and pleasure beach ,same it's not the same
Went there back in roughly 2001....Didnt enjoy smelly dirty place,it was probably a lot different back in the 70’s-80’s
i went passed there early one morning all i could think was i hope thats the cleaner
I still visit blackpool ( it's in my blood ) blackpool has always been special to me the 70s were great shame how things have gone empty shops pubs knocked down etc .bonny street market no more

Blimey! I thought it was bad enough, when the councellors spent 500 quid each, for a roll of wallpaper, to decorate the interior of the town hall, a few years back, but this takes the biscuit! 10 grand per tree??? Insane!
Yep I heard it too, not sure if it was those trees or somewhere else but they spent £100k on 10 trees

It’s a good investment, they turn into much bigger trees, it’s important for the environment and also improves the street scene, trees aren’t cheap! But the cost would include the planting of it too though ect…

I used to live in Blackpool some years ago and I was in a hostel on 57a Cookson Street 2005/6
I once went inside a rather smart brothel just off the beach Labadi Beach, Accra. This was for a woman who needed a job as a masseuse. The madame had an elaborate hairstyle tipped with gold embellishments. It was cool and decorated with fresh flowers. The beds were in screened off cubicles with crisp white sheets. It was spotless. I found out that the masseuses did only massage and further services were given by girls recruited from the city. It was a very professional set up. I was simply curious, as a female, to find out more!
I've no idea what these places look like inside.
A walk on the dark side of Blackpool. Just like many places in the UK have ' certain' streets were ladies of night work better for them to work inside than out on the streets were they are at risk of harm or worse.
Very interesting to see this. I was born in Blackpool (in the 50’s) and I still live in the outskirts now. I sort of knew that the streets shown were not very salubrious but I wasn’t really aware of Cookson St being a particular ‘red light’ district so it proves you are never too old to learn. I don’t think I’ve ever in 60+ years walked down there at night, and your video doesn’t really encourage me to do so. Hopefully, with the ongoing regeneration of the district it might be better in the years to come. These establishments must service a demand so better they are ‘controlled’ (probably licensed?) than the alternative.
You can walk down there no problem. There were a lot of people around when I was filming, who probably didn't bat an eyelid at these places.

We were there for 3 days in July 2021, we have piks of the Tower, Promenade, glorious Sunsets, walked the beach, tram to Fleetwood, drinks n great dancing at Soul Suite, never saw this area, but we weren't there for that! 🤣🤣
In the 60’s,70’s and 80’s where I used to live,the Red Light Area at night,had Women with Red Lights
Showing in their Houses.You just knocked on door.There were Cities and Towns that did this.all
over the Country,especially Ports and Seaside Towns.
I am quite surprise to see in Blackpool you now have Parlour’s,Spa’s,Massage,Etc. that do this
Business now.I have lost touch from the 60’s,70’s,and 80’s to the present day.(Times change).
In my day,it was big business.I saw many Houses with Red Lights on.

Blackpool can indeed be a hotbed of sordid activities. I once survived a visit to the Norbreck Castle Hotel relatively unscathed. Although the memory of it still fairly vivid.

Its Amazing how many Thai massages in Blackie, i dont recall many when we were on restoring the

Iit is really not a lot to do with the council and everything to do with the local police. I can only assume the Police Vice unit are ignoring these places. I lived in Blackpool through the years 1958 to 1967 when my employment took me elsewhere in Lancashire and eventually to the Midlands. I attended St Georges School at Marsden from just after it opened until December 1961. Looking at google that school is now more than twice the size of what it was back then and as for Blackpool it as changed out of all recognition. The Regent cinema back in the day used to show all the latest X-rated sci-fi type of films and I well remember going to see, "The blob" which was the first ever film Steve McQueen appeared in. My memory fails me at times but I remember the Theatre that used to be next door the Tower. I went there with my mother and her friend to see Frankie Vaughan. What a showman he was. Has Blackpool changed for the better, in many ways I think not but it is a sad reflection of what it was until the start of cheap flights and holidays in the Spanish Sunshine, something that Blackpool can't compete with. Such a shame, and while I'm at it, its time the council brought back those promenade Victorian shelters with seating on all four sides so you could stay out of the prevailing wind and weather.
There are a few of those shelters still here, but only north of North Pier.
The police ignoring these places, lol, some of them will be customers!
If those trees cost 10,000 pounds each, whoever bought them wants their bumps felt and then fired from using public money ever again!!!
I can confirm that the trees did cost £10k each and there’s 10 of them. As council taxpayers, we were not too appreciative of this, however, I must say that putting the cost aside, they do certainly improve the look of the area.
@@jimnut7262 No doubt there was a far more less expensive “tree” “trees” that would have beautified the area because I can’t even begin to justify that amount of money spent on a tree/trees! I bought Royal Palms fully grown and then only cost a fraction of that price! If I was a Blackpool tax payer, I would have wanted a full inquiry as to why and how and who co-signed for them. I did once work in that area and observed a lot of wasted government money that wasn’t truly accounted for…

The problem is, we have had a Labour run council for far too long and they seem rather adept at spending the public purse whilst not really worrying about who is really funding it long term (Joe public). Taking that aside, they told us that the trees were specially selected to cope with the pollution the wind etc and the cost did, I think, include all the infrastructure costs ie the new paving, the railings around each tree etc...but, it was still rather expensive. 🤔

If you walk or cycle in central Blackpool often enough, random women will ask your interested in them. Certain areas and streets are worst than others for this. Its horrible to see it happening 😭
I know. I had two come up to me last year close to the junction with Palatine Road.

Don't forget to do an episode on the Swinger's Clubs in town as well. I know of a couple on Springfield Road and General Street. There may be more but they are the ones I'm aware of. I think there are a couple of Swinger Hotels near the train Station.

Should be legalised in this day and age . What grown consenting adults do in private should remain private . As long as no one is being forced then I don’t see what the problem is .
The Council can also do health checks and offer support for the workers . Keeping it underground is when workers are exploited .
That makes sense for solo working or in a controlled environment with safeguarding limitations.

blackpool!took brentford apart at bloomfield road!4-0!dismantled bury 5-0!aw blackpool!it used to be a fantastic place!my best friend paid for me to go on that new space invader ride back in 1985 or 6,that was just an incredible ride!i'm terrified of roller coasters now!i haven't been on a cable car or roller coaster ride since alton towers 1987.we always used to go on those rides in the seventies and eighties.as you get older,you just become terrified of everything don't you?

Wow i never knew that about Cookson street, i must be an innocent i would just take the shop signage at face value and think they were just decent places to visit if you wanted a sauna or use a tanning bed haha but that's just me, i remember when BSM was on Cookson street i learned to drive with them.....Another good video...Thank you.
BSM was a rip off though getting you tp pay upfront with block hours.....what a racket it was in the 80's 1
I learned with BSM. It was an Austin Metro with 4 gears, so I never learned how to get into 5th.
