100% 25 players thats two full teams and some ... so he could play two different teams each week, he chooses not too.. alternatively all teams ask for squads of 30 and take 15-20% wages off the 25 players to pay the additional 5 players... but they won't ...

All Pep is doing, is trying to protect his players. The season is long or going to be long. He is not asking for less games. He was asking for one more day of rest maybe play the game on Sunday or Monday. People are not mentioning that when teams play in the champions league they represent the league or they are best in that league there fore representing the FA. City was not only representing themselves in the Champions league final they were representing England or English football. And Wednesdays also was the same thing. Maybe I am seeing this with different eyes. Simon will never be on the side of the player because he has this narrative that they are being over payed. Well they didn’t just wake up and got big wages. The game and the rules of the game dictated that. And it took a lot of sacrifice from those players to be the best they are. Just imagine how many players want to be professionals let alone play in the big leagues. So if you want the best players, we’ll you have to pay top dollar. And most of all it is a living for them it’s the only profession they know.

I agree, likely we all agree that there is too much football and clearly not enough rotation as the players bodies are feeling the strain.
So something has to give. Simon is right in that you can't have it all, there has to be compromise by clubs, by managers or by the players.
And Martin is wrong, its not all on the players, but they are the commodity, without them there is nothing.
The other consideration is that this issue only impacts top 8 clubs per Europe and the higher you are in the league the more money you get the more games you play. Those in clubs lower down and in other divisions do not reap the same level of benefits so it really is a rich club issue.
I don't think english football wants or considers a team who have been fast tracked to success because of oil money and have 115 financial charges against them as representatives.

I do agree with you. And I don’t usually agree with these kind of statements. But they don’t work as much as no one else does. So it’s hard to feel sorry for their claims they work too much. Everyone does. And everyone complains they work too much. Footballers are in the same boat as everyone else. Nobody answered the question as to why Pep couldn't be given a 24hr difference and a Sunday KO - was that too much to ask so they could prepare properly for the 2nd game of the season? The alternative was to play all the kids and 2nd string - lose the game but be rested properly for Newcastle. CIty are being penalised because of their success in this instance. Do you think this happens in La Liga or the Bundesliga - NO it doesn't, their representatives in europe are always given a little slack when required within the scheduling.

There is such a simple solution. Teams that enter European competitions should not be allowed in the league cup. This opens up the completion to other teams and frees up the schedule to the more successful teams

There is a simple solution, namely to cap the amount of playing time a footballer can have - in terms of minutes, over say, a 21 day period. It would require some thought on the coaches part, should be adjusted for age, both old and young, and probably require larger squads, but there is a lot of money in the game so the teams with the issues could certainly afford extra personnel .

The players didn't have to play the full 90mins it's a cup no one really cares about. Also I'm pretty sure Man City has a big enough squad. But unfortunately it will get worse as FIFA are trying to do some stupid new cup and UEFA are making the Champions League bigger for some reason. Didn't really need more pointless games.

Thought the same thing, we played same amount of games the year before last as they did last year we had a massive drop off in form and injuries and us fan and klopp said we were over work as we played to many game and we was laughed at an told to stop making excuses, now it’s city everyone is agreeing

These player get paid an ungodly amount of money. They “work” for 3 or 4 hours a day playing a sport while the majority people have to work a minimum of 8 hours a day and more for a very very very small fraction of what football players make. Most people work jobs they hate while these lads play football. Soft generation. I have zero sympathy.
Do you have the same pressure in your 8 hour job? Do they restrict what you can do? What you can eat? People act like these players are getting some privilege...no, they work for their money. The reason why they only train for 4 hours is because if they trained more it would be counterproductive to the goals of the team...the human body is not wood or steel ( heck even wood or steel experiences material fatigue if you overuse them)
Man City have a huge wage budget allowing them to have a strong squad. They should be using that squad and rotate players to prevent injury.

Man City had 6 weeks between the champions league final and their first pre-season match....and the players were expected to play the nations league in that period.
Shouldn’t ditch it. The lower league clubs love it, and some clubs rely on the TV revenue that it brings. One solution is to take the Premier League teams out of it and just have it as a Championship, League 1 and League 2 competition.

In the working class world this is called “overtime pay”. You work more = you get more money. It means you might get tired (/injured). But employers don’t care as long as it maximises revenue. “Trophies” and “glory” come secondary to money

every year we hear this. run your squad and play your games. you all get paid enough to do it.
Top clubs play many games because they compete in a lot of competitive tournaments. However, middle to bottom clubs play very little competitive games because they don’t often qualify or progress. I suggest that top teams have more players than stopping football games because majority of the teams play fewer games compared to top clubs.
Nope not in the slightest. Teams in the past have had far worse fixture scheduling and been told by the likes of the media and rival fans to get on with it. That shouldn’t change for Pep and his City team.
As someone who loves football, I’d play every single minute of every day and you won’t have to pay me a dime. These players need to STFU.

Today's footballers are pathetic. Compare their fitness to that of tennis players. They very often have to play for three, four or five hours very often in extreme heat and then have to do it again two days later. Any player who gets to a slam final has to play 7 times in the space of two weeks and each match will last a minimum of two and a half hours. For Christ sake Andy Murray played a match in the Aussie Open at 36 with a metal hip that lasted almost six hours and still won. I think players in the 50's, 60's and 70's even given that they smoked and drank heavily were fitter than the players of today. No squad rotation then. I am afraid that all the money has made today's players pampered poodles.
These teams have 25 players, as for city 2 full squads get on with it. Lower leagues have played twice a week for years with squads of 18-20. And if pep made substitutions then his players wouldn't get injured

Surely its like any other job... Want to work less hours, take a pay cut. That way broadcasters pay less to the league/clubs and then we can pay less as a customer. Otherwise we're paying the same for less content which is obviously incredibly unfair.
