    I got Toyota Highlander hybrid xle 2022 since Nov 2021. Still I’m very much happy with my purchase. Definitely save tons of gas and very comfortable smooth ride.

    Just traded in our 2019 Volkswagen Atlas 2.0T SE for a brand new 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid LE 2 weeks ago. I would say that I'm happy that I made that decision because of the better mpg especially now that the gas prices are rising. My only gripe is that I had to sacrifice the interior space (specifically the 3rd row seating space). Aside from that, it has been a wonderful move for me.

    Last year I Purchased a 2021Highlander Hybrid using Car Help Canadas new car buying service. Got a great deal. I have been very happy with the car to date, gas mileage has been fantastic, averaging 6.7L per 100km. The 243hp is more then adequate and feels quick and responsive in the normal or the sport drive modes. The only issue that I have been having is phantom battery drain of the small 12v battery (the 12v is NOT the big hybrid battery). Because of work from home, the truck is driven daily, but not very far. Apparently the 12v battery is very small and can degrade if not driven regularly.

    I’ve had mine for a year now. It’s exactly what it claims to be… functional, efficient, reliable, and comfortable. Is it sporty or high tech? Absolutely not, but it’s also not trying to be. The one real let down is how shockingly bad the lane trace assist is on cruise control.

    I ended up ordering one in January I got the Toyota Highlander Platinum in Hybrid. After doing my research and looking at other three-year row SUVs I thought this was the best option for me the others didn’t offer a hybrid. Also Toyotas reputation of their vehicles lasting long.
    Also I find it interesting that when I talk to Toyota they said a lot of people insist on gas versions and will not look at a hybrid even though it’s about $2300 more. The savings long term and gas for the small upgrade outweighs it in my opinion. Especially now!

    I’m leaning towards the xle hybrid as well, since I can get a second row bench. I would have preferred the limited since I can get a birds eye view camera and a 110 1500 watt outlet, but alas no bench for 2022. How useful is a birds eye view camera in such a large vehicle?

  • @ripley275

    I really like your review on the hybrid which is what I would go for. Would probably have to be the 2022 version as I heard they are going to a v-4 turbo and I’ve heard from many there are a lot of problems with the turbo☹️. I always thought I would get an AWD, but have not heard a lot of good about it to make it worth the price, less mpg due to wt, and I live in s.e. Mi where we don’t get that much snow, just retired too, so if weather is really bad, I just stay home, and I’ve never been an off road girl, or going places where it’s not paved, much rather do the hybrid.

    Thanks for your review Shari and words of wisdom. With the gas prices soaring... (and your reviews) I ordered the hybrid. My family of 6 needs a reliable SUV that will last the test of time. The Kia was better in the looks dept but i wanted the MPGs and the Toyota reputation and Toyota resale value. I will get it in a year. I think there is a car shortage or something? :P

    I wish there was an option for a bench 2nd row on higher trims like the Limited or Platinum. The fact that its only available on XLE is a deal breaker for me. Hybrid would have been my 1st choice otherwise.

  • @ivandoneshefsky4762

    If you live in cold weather climates (Minnesota for example), your MPG will drop significantly in the winter months. My 21 Venza mileage in the summer averages 40 mpg in town. Winter months mpg drops by 20-25% or 28-32 mpg in town. For 3-row SUV, I’m guessing the Highlander hybrid would average 25-28 mpg in winter driving not the 35 as reported. Still better than Telluride or Palisade.

    • @lc7192
      @lc7192 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the hybrid is kept in a garage overnight and the battery isn’t subjected to extremely cold temperatures between drives and the hybrid battery is a Lithium battery, you are correct. The Highlander’s all have Nickel Metal Hydride batteries and they aren’t affected by the extremely cold or high temps. Most Lithium battery equipped vehicles have a heating system for the battery to minimize drain once the vehicle is at normal operating temperatures. I think you are mostly referring to an all electric vehicle when referring to poor battery performance during extreme cold. They are known to lose up to 30% of their range under these conditions.

  • @ripley275
    @ripley275 ปีที่แล้ว

    I love your style, to the point with comparisons to the competition. I will probably buy the Highlander hybrid as I love the look and think the 2 tone dash area is amazing. Unlike you I don’t think it looks outdated-quite the opposite. I’m hoping for a less bumpy ride than my Malibu, which I still love..but after yrs in a dodge caravan which was a very smooth ride, the Malibu let’s you feel rough roads. I also watched you review of Kia Telluride, I like the exterior back but that front with the little square lights turns me off. The dash is lovely, nut with the hi end pkg in Highlander, I view them equal. Love the 35 mpg, decades of reliability and smooth ride. A bit worried that the 4 cylinder will be a dog in acceleration…hopefully it’s not too noticeable.

    These mileage reports, are they for the highway or city? Combo means nothing in reality. And how accurate are they in Canada, apparently they are way off base in the US? I remember back in the 80's and 90's, in Canada, whatever the MPG was on the sticker one could accurately knock off 10% with a high degree of accuracy.
    Keep on rocking👍

    I I wish you had expanded more on the power difference between the two engines. Maybe comparing 0-60 times between the two as a reference. Interested in this vehicle as a hybrid, but wonder how it would work merging onto an expressway or passing on a road trip.

      At this point in my life, I am perfectly fine with just a comfortable 3-row SUV boulervard cruiser as opposed to something sportier. Having said this, I was actually pleasantly surprised to discover that in sport mode, the 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid has more than ample power to get up and go.

  • @maximus0928
    @maximus0928 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Only gripes are the slight wind noise when driving 80ish. Highlander tank isn’t 17 or 18 gallons but is actually 14 gallons when your car tells you to fill up. Beyond that it’s not electric but I think it helps the environment in its small way. Great for not spending an arm and leg at the pump. Had my new 2021 for a year, no issues thus far.

  • @dmlarry
    @dmlarry 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    lol my civic si is just as efficient as this. not saying hybrids are bad, but my other car, Ford Fusion Hybrid, gets up to 45 mpg in warm weather. Cold weather really bogs down the battery and the car relies on the engine. If you live in a cold weather state with nasty winters, be warned, your hybrid will be extremely inefficient

    The Kia Telluride looks awesome. And the Hyundai Telluride isn’t bad though the Calligraphy wheels are awful. But looks and features notwithstanding, I can’t see a Kia or Hyundai approaching Toyota quality. And it’s not like the Highlander is unattractive; the current gen looks great and the higher trims are well-appointed.

    Not bad. No reasonable stock for years and massive dealer price gouging.
    I’ll wait a couple of years when I can get 3 competitive quotes. Hopefully a full EV is available at a lower cost.

  • @Great_America

    Kia and Hyundai have much lower resale values for a reason. Lack of long term reliability. They just can’t compete with Toyota. The Highlander easily wins this competition.

    at the up North hardcore winter states Electrified vehicles don't do that well during winter season and that is the longest season most of the year .. no one is talking about that or give it any serious mention how they will address this problem .. I'm open to Ev's but I'm not jumping that fast to it until they figure out their problems in engineering and designs . just remember that batterie runs your Ev is very powerful very dangerous . in such wet rainy during summer and snowy during winter .. we should ask a lot of serious question about safety seriously people !! I just hate we find out that because someone end up electrocuted from an Ev due to stupid lazy engineering design !!

    Ridiculous Toyota won't match the interior upgrades and infotainment systems that Kia has. Toyota has to know they are being slammed in reviews because of this, its not like the Toyotas are cheaper. I don't get it, upgrade these two things and with Toyotas reliability they would dig into the Telluride sales

  • @lc7192
    @lc7192 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Too often people or companies that rate cars rate how a vehicle looks or at its features and weigh that heavily on which car or truck to buy. They don’t evaluate their choice based on reliability or resale value, fit, finish or anything else that only driving the vehicle for an extended period of time will show. Like how Toyota has been building hybrid vehicles for over 20 years or their attention to build quality. If you have minor issues with the Highlander which, like all other evaluators bring to your attention to buying a new car, you should also consider how long the vehicle will last and the cost of repairs during the time that you own it.
