My favorite story, regarding the dangers of nit knowing Chinese (although it may be apocryphal): A young woman was vacationing in Hong Kong, and while shopping, she saw a piece of fabric hanging outside a shop. She bought, and took the fabric to a dressmaker and had it made into a dress; a few days later she was wore it o a dinner party, where the hastess informed her that it was obviously made from a shop sign promoting a sale, because the translation was "Goods inside first quality, but very cheap!"
🤣🤣🤣
As chinese learners, I feel like we should get functional tattoos. I’m thinking 左/右 on each palm, and 中 center chest.
Ha, great idea!
haha... Once you get better at Chinese, you will regret the decision.😝
Once you get better at life decisions, you’ll regret any tattoo. 😅
"外人", besides Japanese meaning "foreigner", can mean "outsider" in Chinese. It can also be "husband" from a wife's perspective (c.f. 外子, 內人, 內子)
“咬” is made up with two characters "口” and “交”, literaly meaning BJ, which makes sense
i just love yalls video
😁🙏
For those(non-Chinese) who want to get a Chinese character tattoo, don't forget to ask Chinese people if your chosen one is ok, this will avoid those that might cause embarrassment
True 😁
do u think ai translation works if no chinese friend?
No, i don't think so, AI is just a tool, the informations that AI can give you is so limited, it's not hard to get a Chinese friend, you can use some language exchange apps to get some help@@fannyalbi9040
You have a 1 in 8 chance to have a Chinese friend@@fannyalbi9040
The last one was GOLDEN😂😂😭 MOGUAE👹🔥
I want one that says “Tax Return Spent” and have a dragon swirling around the characters and eating them.
🤣🤣🤣
THE BOYS ARE BACK 😱😱😱
流女氣 is gibberish font you can find online RAB so is the other one with strange font JULIE
13:47 殺生成仁 A quote from "孟子" ,expresses the willingness to sacrifice one's life for the cause of benevolence (or ideals). It's a fantastic sentiment, but the font doesn't do justice to the profoundness of these words.
Very close. 殺生成仁 actually should be from Confucius. What孟子said should be 舍生取義. These two phases are always mentioned together 孔曰成仁,孟曰取義。
I think the 这是纹身one is pretty cool😂
Haha, yes! "This is a tattoo" - it might be even more funny in English 🤔
咬 should be translated as bite. Chew is 嚼
I guess 金猪 is supposed to be their Chinese zodiac sign, the year 1971, they didn't know about 辛亥
Make sense
Maybe upside down mean 倒。during lunar new year, some Chinese might upside down the 福 and paste on the door. This mean 福到我家。 hope fortune to my home.
13:40 i believe it's 杀生成仁.
originally it should be 杀身成仁,meaning to sacrifice oneself in order to achieve greater good, but in this case it replaced 身 with 生, which brings totally different meaning possibly translate into to kill in order to achieve good?
There's plenty of misspelled english tattoos, on native english speakers, I don't know how anyone can ever expect to get a properly spelled (drawn) tattoo in a foreign language....
Hahaha, good point!
8:50 外人 gaijin = a foreigner ( Japanese )
Should I get 政府官员 tattooed on my face? My tattoo guy says it means respect.
Yeah maybe that could get you out of a speeding ticket in Beijing ;-)
🤣🤣🤣
外人(Gaijin)is Japanese .It means foreigner but it is not a very formal term.
I remember I saw a man walk in to a church with these huge 3 inch square Chinese tattoos of { 基督徒)running down his left arm and I walked up to him asking where he got these tattoos. He said he got them from this Chinese tattoo artiest and he said he was not sure if it Indeed said "Christian" as he was told. SO i explained to him that it was the right characters for that word. and he was SO RELIEVED.
😂👍👍
幾個漢字看起來紋身上很簡單,但是要紋出毛筆字那種樣子就不簡單了。
3:28 reminds me of if you could buy a Chengyu off of temu.
Hahahaha more tattoos that was fun
😁👍
This video was oh so entertaining, please do a part 2. 🙏🏻
Regarding the tattoo at 11:28”. To me it looks like a 我 with too much space in the middle of the character.
This is a part 2
13:44 应该是:杀身成仁。 意思是为了成全仁德,可以不顾自己的生命;后指为维护正义或崇高的理想而牺牲生命。
I dreamed one night I was in a former life and in China. Probably somewhere like West Lake. My father called my name and it was 瑞宇. Rui Yu. I had it done in calligraphy and got a tattoo
杀生成仁的纹身正确写法是杀身成仁,不成功便成仁
the upside down pig word. could it mean golden pig is coming or arrive? like chinese like to put certain prosperity word upside down too
Right, the character 福 "fortune" is often turned upside down meaning fortune is coming. For that tattoo he has pig upside down, but gold right side up. So only pigs are coming, but gold is staying right where it is... 🤔
@@learnchinesenow oh nooo :(
This guy I know has “love” on one hand and “death” on the other. I asked him about them, but never got a good explanation.
😳
can i get one that says "你哥" ?
It should say 你大爷 😳
@@learnchinesenow really?
@@learnchinesenowgold😂
Lots of great texts from Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism. amazing poetry, great literature. and people choose google translate. smh
I have the heart sutra tattooed in my arm in Sanskrit, i know it means exactly what i want because i was the one that gave it to the tattooer, and even if it's wrong, Sanskrit is a dead language, so unless I meet a Buddhist scholar that knows how to read Sanskrit, nobody will be offended or think I'm stupid
I dont see why they would tatoo something on their body when they dont understand what it means
The "Poor" is on a fish hook I think... which still doesn't make it any cooler 😢
Interesting and confusing
😂
😂😂😂😂
I don't eat meat, but I do chew? Is that like Bill Clinton saying he tried marijuana but didn't inhale? 😆
The saddening part in addition, is that with the most examples I've seen, the actual characters are written extremely poorly. It's like the handwriting of a toddler who wrote it with its foot while blindfolded. The strokes are often wonky and character composition is often unbalanced to the point of illegibility.
🤣🤣🤣 True
What about 鸡面汤·?
I guess if you're really into chicken noodle soup and don't want to be bothered saying it out loud at a restaurant you can order simply by pointing at your tattoo
88 is used in Aryan numerology. It also fits in with the threat to bite. It's also lucky, of course, in Asian numerology. But, Aryan thoughts expressed in Chinese is a bit of a contradiction. I have seen footage from China featuring Nazi symbology. Apparently, there was a bit of a connection there in WW2, which has continued to fester. I would guess this tatoo is on a Chinese Nazi.
😳
I think westerners are printing out these tattoos and because they don't know Chinese they don't know which side is up.
Maybe when he says 说龙爱 means he is gay.
