Many... many years ago, I was at a flea market, and some guy was selling the Omnibots for $1 each. He had a box full of them, FULL. this was 1986 or 1987. I bought 2 of each, still have them, with instructions and accessories. He was also selling the mail away Reflector for $2, and I got the last one of those, or I would have bought 2 as well. They were the only ones I didn't have from those first 2 catalogs releases. I just never got around to using the robot points.
It's a beautiful rendition of Overdrive in 1/24 scale, it's a shame the Omnibots were never mentioned or used in any TF media except maybe a brief appearance in a IDW comic several many years ago. I remember them being mail away items in the '85 catalog which I thought was weird because they weren't like the cheapy "zippy bot" or "watch bot" crap mail away items but full-on proper Transformer toys. I guess they had a glut of characters in the second season and they just couldn't fit them all in the Saturday morning cartoon.
Mike, you are funny. I was just re-watching your video and I saw your Will Smith Wild Wild West action figure and the joke about slapping someone… too funny.
I was pleasantly surprised by the weight of this figure when I took him out of the clamshell. I agree with you about the feet - they could have been engineered better. Overall a great figure.
Well Mike, my wallet thanks you because I made an unexpected purchase for this guy! I only had can shaft as a kid because I didn't have enough points to buy the others, but end up getting them later in life, and I was debating that weather getting all three when X-transbots actually started putting these guys out. But you made me decide to go for it and I'll see what I think!
I feel a bit better with this after seeing Bobby throw it against the wall. 😳. I had the three of these as a kid as well and used this one as a stand in for Sideswipe until got the official. I feel a bit vindicated though towards the end of the video you mentioned maybe the need for a Wheeljack upgrade. I mentioned that in the comments once before and you were telling me no need for it 😂. Sticking to I want upgrades to Wheeljack, Prowl, Bluestreak, Sideswipe, Ironhide and Ratchet. Not urgently. But eventually.
To be fair, I love Bobby's reviews but when it comes to transformations, he's not the guy whose advice I follow. I think TMReviews is better in that area.
I'm picking up the yellow version as I think yellow looks really good. However, red was the official version so I got red first. Now, that I have him in hand, and I think he's good, I'll be picking up the yellow variant as that was the other color I wanted.
I really liked this guy. Only crappy part was the legs/feet. Soooo close to perfect … but the heel and foot move out of place when posing. Inner calf panels pop out. Lets see how camshaft and downshift come out…
That alt mode is very interesting. It's a Ferarri clearly, but it's got this kinda mish mash of deco hits. Like the indents where the door handles are, well, if they were located where they should be anyway. They're way down on the bottom, and they're not from a 308 which is where most of this things looks come from. Those are straight f40 goodness, but again, way too low. The rear section above the engine, is pretty close to testarossa, but also 308 as well. this is like a Magnum IP car lmao. Not to be confused with the original IP, Magnum PI lol
It's based off a 512BB, shares some looks to the 308(MPI), but a more purposeful car. The door handles are integrated to the bottom of the B pillars, this model lead to the Testarossa.
I canceled all my preorders based on Bobby’s review experience and my own with Xtransbots (breakages). Bummer because I love Omnibots and really hoped Xtransbots would improve their engineering and materials to mitigate breakage. Update - I re-preordered because I like Omnibots too much. I’m a sucker.
@happiaxxident I enjoy Bobby's reviews for the entertainment value, but I never watch his videos for the transformation or or his opinion on the quality of the figure. I have seen him break way too many figures cause he just rough houses through the transformation.
You should never trust Bobby for transformation as he forces way too many things to move. I watch him purely for entertainment values. If it's transformation, I'm only watching Emgo as if I can't figure it out, I'll go watch him. For reviews, it's Emgo, Tydirium or TMReviews. I didn't care as I preordered this guy a long time ago as I love Omni bots. I'm not disappointed one bit with my purchase other than maybe I got a defective copy when it came to paint as I don't think the paint is as good as it could be.
I agree with richardathay3329's and saysoun752's comments regarding Bobby Skullface's MP transformations. He forces parts into places instead of finessing parts. That is why he has that chalkboard that shows how many days he can go without a breakage.
It's such a minor nitpick but I don't feel like the hood design allows for a decent sized Autobot logo unless it splits across the head flap, which then is wrong for bot mode. Yeah, a small sticker can fit there but it looks weird imo.
Haven't bought him yet but he's on the short list. Trying to make up my mind if I want the 3 in the traditional solid colors or to get the race car deco versions instead being they never were in the cartoon or comics so the looks really don't need to be exact in my book. Not really wanting the full recolors but the race car deco versions over the standard versions. Need to make up my mind here soon before they sell out. Doubt they get reissued any time soon if ever and I seriously doubt we'll ever get a second option for MP scale Omnibots. Be a miracle if they ever make these in Legends scale as well but who knows? Magic Square and New Age should pay attention to what XTB is doing with these characters to see if a Legends option for the 3 is a viable money maker for either of them down the road.
Finally got mine in the mail. Went for the traditional G1 looking Red and put in preorders for the standard versions of Camshaft and Downshift. Watching your video again now to get him transformed. Get the racecar over the yellow. Same with the other two when you get around to them. They look amazing with the sponsor details and will look great with your standard Takara Wheeljack or MakeToys Jazz. I Love Bobby's videos but he needs to watch someone else transform something for him first. If he gets first crack at doing a transformation video it turns into a S**t show real fast. I had no issues transforming mine watching you do it first. 😊
It's a shame XTB has had such a spotty record, because they've got some of the best looking and best articulated figures on the market today. I think this is an absolutely gorgeous figure, as is their Commander Stack. Unfortunately Stack is a nightmare to transform, which made me glad it was a rare instance of XTB shipping a figure in bot mode. Then on the other hand there's molds like their Grapple/Inferno which show that they can absolutely nail a transformation if they stay away from overengineering stuff. That mold is one of my favorite MP scale figures to transform made by ANY company. I really like this dude, and I still think their Stunticons would be the best option out there if only they weren't marred by QC issues and an overengineered trailer. Such a shame. I ended going with the FT stunticons, even though I would have preferred the XTB in terms of looks and scale.
Have you ever done a worst transformations video? In my experience, XTB’s Apollyon was the worst. Transforming it gave me the feeling of being stuck upside down in a roller coaster.
Weapons being a crappy gray plastic instead of chrome turned me off along with the tolerances. I remember these when I got them in the mail and loved it as a kid. This was the chance to impress me with an update, not so much sadly.

Those "big gaps" on the bottom of car mode are weapons storage, they can hold all three of his pistols in folded up form.
Good tip, thanks!

I like the car mode. I mistook it as the Makina/Thunderhawk at first glance

@@Jayce_Alexander Fair statement. Would agree

MX-23 Fioravanti is the best looking car bot ever. But he is fragile like Mr. Glass from the movie Unbreakable.
I really liked this guy. Only crappy part was the legs/feet. Soooo close to perfect … but the heel and foot move out of place when posing. Inner calf panels pop out. Lets see how camshaft and downshift come out…
Maaaaario , it's Itaaaaaalian ! :)
Ahhh , the 3rd (and last) Golden Age of car manufacturing ... --- errr ... , I mean of Cybertron ... !

I love this figures and the engineering is waaaaayyyy better than Fuzz. Just do not run it over with your car like Bobby did with Hound

I love Bobby's vids...he has a niche, seeing what can break during transformation. It's called the Rugged test. LOL.

no xtb for me
😍🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥!
Love this figure

I would love to see these in Legends because they could be nearly G1 scale. I am tempted on the racecar versions also

Yeah, Bobby Skull Face broke the foot, and then decided to close the headlight using a hammer - complete craziness.
Have you ever done a worst transformations video?

Yep the weapons in Chrome would be awesome
I have Fuzz & “hate” him. Thus I decided I will sell him & NOT pursue the XTB Protectobots.
