In Stephen King's novel CHRISTINE, a detective questioning a suspect noted he had all his bases covered when it came to his alibi. He mentioned that most reputable alibis have at least one or two holes in them (most likely because people aren't always alert all the time). "It's when they start to look like freaking suits of armor that I get nervous."

I'm a cop, I've been in countless of houses speaking to people about various crimes/reports/investigations etc. I 've had conversations with people whilst they play video games, watch TV, talk on their phone, cook food, wash their car and pretty much anything else that doesn't require them to be behind a closed door. It's actually little details like that that gave the show its authenticity.

I saw a crime drama from my home country where one of the detectives said that if people know exactly when they were doing things on the day of the crime down to the minute it's suspicious. Because most people don't have that precise a knowledge of their schedule. Which indicates that they are lying to give themselves an alibi. I mean, think about it. Can you remember exactly when you did everything you did yesterday down to the minute?
Another thing to be on the lookout for is if multiple people give the exact SAME testimony. That indicates that they rehearsed it together to make their stories line up.
Another indication of rehearsal is if when asked about something in multiple ways(by the investigator coming back to it at some point during an interview) the person being interviewed gives the EXACT SAME answer without even changing the words or the word order a little bit.

I’ve been asked questions once or twice by cops about crimes I may have witnessed. I was hopeless at it. If I ever end up accused of something I’ll probably end up wrongly convicted because I screwed up. If someone asked me what time I ate dinner, or went to bed last night I’d be hemming and hawing until the cops threw me in jail out of disgust.

Might've set a record for most headlines ripped from...
-The murder itself is based on Jayson Williams
-The killer is obviously a steroid-addled baseball player
-While intended as a McGuire/Sosa/Bonds allegory, Kevin's backstory is based on that of the pre-steroid record-holder, Roger Maris (the title almost certainly comes from his record having an asterisk next to it for 30 years because he had a longer season than Babe Ruth)
-The gay angle that comes in at the end is taken from an Out magazine editor's 2001 claim that he was in a relationship with a prominent MLB player
