I'm glad you undid the headdress and retied it differently -- I was wondering how it was constructed, since it looks like it was made of two different kinds of fabric, and I'm glad to see both that (that it's sewn-together strips with a lining) and that the first style was simply tied in two overhand knots, which made it look far more complex than it really is.

This is awesome! I’ve been wanting to read this book & it is great to see you share the knowledge.
I studied tudors in a mostly south east asian primary school & was so frustrated by how white it all was. Knowing that that was active, intentional whitewashing makes me even angrier than i was at 10

I have always loved Tudor history but never saw much cross over in Europe. Africa and Asia traded but Europe barely mentioned trades with other continents although it was obvious that they were traveling to these locations is the goods were only available there

This is so cool! His name is very curious, is his surname blanke because it was literally a blank on the page? Perhaps illegitimate or an orphan of unknown family? It makes me think of John Doe as a stand in for knowing what the actual name is. I wish we could know more..

I looked into this a bit it may have been a play on a Spanish word, a fill in for not being born in Spain, or to represent not having a last name but there is no concrete answer on the real reason his last name was Blanke
