The flag on the fort is the Borgoña's cross, derived from the St Andrews cross. It was Spanish flag from 1506 till 1843 when was officially replaced by the red-yellow-red flag till our days. Borgoña's cross and some variants, still used nowadays by the spanish army and the royal house as well as lot of heraldic shields. it means invencible in combat.
The red-yellow-red flag coexisted with the Borgoñ'a's flag as the spanish navy flag from 1785 on, cause it was easier to identify from long distances in the sea.

When I was in elementary school here in Florida, late 70's - early 80's, Florida History was a required course. 4th grade, I think. Loved it.

I love St. Augustine at night walking through the stone streets holding hands with your lady. The entire place is magical and real that's the best part. Don't forget to visit the beaches right across the Lions Bridge and your on Anastasia Island the most beautiful beach in the world with the Light House in the distince. You'll have to see it to believe it. Of course now we're back to the cannons and the oldest masonry fort in the USA. I live in Jacksonville an hour down the road so I go here as often as I can. Come visit St. A you'll never forget it...

I was here about a decade ago. I remember in one of the rooms on the 1st fl there was boat anchor preserved in sea water housed in a large glass box container.

Think how well built this fort is. Several Hurricanes and strong storms have destroyed homes and buildings yet this for stands after all of these years.

The Spanish were ruthless as well. They loved florida and South America because it was more like Spain. They weren't really interested in the North.

Los despiadados fueron los ingleses con su pureza de raza que no se mezclaban con la población autóctona, cuántos mestizos hay en Norteamérica, mmmm, cuántos en Sudamérica y centro. No tengo más que decir señoría. Leyenda negra.

This place was on 20/20 or 60 MINUTES, I forget. It was said to be the most segregated city in the U.S. Which is saying something!🙄 I've been to NYC, NJ, ATL, ND, etc. They were the subject of the Blk side of The Saint Augustine Municpal (segregated) Cemetery that the city refused to landscape. And the segregated dntn. Blks aren't allowed to wlk, sit, shop, etc. around cordoned blocks.

No, entonces quién lo construyó, aporta datos veraces con documentos, no algo que te inventes y te saques de los huevos. Que comentarios más estúpidos.
