- I never paid much attention to the voices of Sailor Moon until recently. So I put together some clips of Sailor Moon to compare. Hmm.. I kinda like Terri's voice.. maybe Tracey, but who knows. I wasn't too picky about the voices when I was younger. What do you think sounds better?

Linda makes Usagi sound like some middle aged woman. And Usagi is like 14.

Honestly, it's because she tried too hard to sound like Terri. You can tell she knew she couldn't replace Terri's epic performance and maybe they told her to sound like it, but I never liked her voice as Usagi. I watched sub for S. Dub was torture.
Well by that time in the dubs she's 16 but essentially yeah.

Terrie was the best. 1995 I was in the 5th grade and I was secretly running home from school so I could watch sailor moon at 3pm. Couldn't tell my friends they would tease me. Now EVERYONE watches anime. Crazy how the world keeps changing.
Yeah but back then, I remember there only being either Sailor Moon or Dragon Ball to choose from LOL .. Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Cardcaptor Sakura, etc. all came out much later on.

Ha! I used to have to sneak up at 5am to watch Sailor Moon. My local FOX station would air it at 5:30 . Luckily things got better during the Toonami years and I could catch it at 5pm, after school 😍.
Terrie is the only real sailor moon voice to me! I did the same exact thing!!!!!! I have goosebumps knowing how alike we are.

Linda gets a lot of hate. But her voice is AMAZING during the final episodes of season 3. Also her shouting attack phrases and transformation phrases-you can hear the emotion in her voice. Gives me chills.
I agree about the ending of the S season. She found her stride, and the episodes were dubbed really well

Linda I think was let down by a combination of miscasting her legitimate talents and then poor voice direction on top of that. Like. I dont think she fit the role, but like you say she was good in some episodes. The director should have told her to change up the performance basically.
I grew up watching the Linda version, so she holds a special place in my heart. I honestly thought it was a fever dream though when I noticed her voice was different after rewatching it years later. 😅
Tracey Moore is by far the best. Her tone sounds natural and not overacted. Her voice is also fitting for the character. The other two not so much.

I really liked tracey and terri as the voice actresses for serena. Both of them did a great job portraying serena's clumsy, klutzy and good hearted nature. Even though Tracey only did serena's voice for a couple of episodes of the first season,she was really great, terri was also really good as serena/sailor moon. I really liked her voice for serena a lot when I watched some episodes when I was younger and I still like it. Linda's voice for serena from season three of the cloverway dub of sailor moon was also great,since I watched some episodes of the third season before when I was little and serena sounded a little older and a little ditzy. Some of the episodes were funny,so it really didn't bother me that much. I like all three of the voice actresses for serena.😍
Totally agree. I just can’t see Serena without those voices. I won’t bash Crystal, I bet the production is good. I’m just saying the original is good still. People bash the ‘sounds like 30’ thing, but yet that’s the entire cast of every anime, the only difference is that they put on a cutesy voice to sound younger

Honestly Linda should have been Luna, Terri couldn't do S because she was pregnant with twins at the time. Honestly Tracey should have returned to do S. Usagi was just not suitable for Linda at all.

Hot take. Tracey was the best OG dub voice for Sailor Moon, in terms of coming closest to Kotono Mitsuishi. Terri Hawkes however made Serena her own
I grew up watching sailor moon. My mother was a fan of the anime so she had me watching it with her all the time. Linda's dub brings back many memories and the feeling of nostalgia. It was a big part of my childhood so I will always miss it.

Ok Ballantyne is the one I personally remember after going through these. I remember Toonami from the 1999-2000 era in bits and pieces the only thing I could recall is that her voice used to kind of remind me of the English voice actress that did Misty in Pokemon lol

Well for one thing after watching this video, I vote for Ms. Terri Hawkes for voicing Serena also known as Sailor Moon in Canada. Since I was not born in Canada, I can really adore Stephanie Sheh's voice as Usagi in 'Sailor Moon'. : )
Tracey and Terri are the best voices of Serena and Terri Hawkes is my favorite Serena's voice is bubbly and happy and Linda did okay but she made Serena sound like she was sick or had a cold
Linda sounds like a middle aged woman, not a clumsy teenager. No doubt she is talented and I think she's a really nice lady, her voice however doesn't fit Serena at all. I can't watch sailor moon with Linda's voice, she's such a miscast.
Tracey's voice is my favourite, I like Terri's too. Both match Serena's personality and appearance, not Linda though.
The listing of the actresses in the title is pretty much my ranking of Serena's voices.
Linda is the one I remember most and I thought she fit Sailor moons goofy nature at times. Honestly it makes me heartbroken to see people hate on her. I get not preferring her voice but no reason to be nasty and insult her 😭

I never realized that I recognized ALL of them! I guess I watched them all when they aired on TV, but maybe I was too little to remember the difference between Tracey and Terri. I honestly remember Linda's voice the most now as an adult, the goofiness just sticks out in my memories!
I just started this series, and I’m so used to hearing the Viz dub, because Christina Vee is Rei/Mars, and I like Christina as a actress.
I prefer Stephanie Sheh, but Tracey and Terri did really good too. They both give Serena energy and good hearted nature. Linda however, despite being a good actress, she does horrible as Serena. She sounds more like a middle aged woman rather than a teenager. If they couldn't bring back Terri, why not bring back Tracey? I would have liked it if Linda did Luna better. She sounds almost exactly like Luna in the DIC dub. Despite being a good actress, Linda Ballantyne just does not fit for Serena at all. For the win, Tracey and Terri.
I love Tracy Hawks interpretation the most. Who knew I could get too attached to a voice character and style of anime. The other dubs and the other anime styles don't do it for me.

I personally love Ballantyne’s voice for Sailor Moon. It makes me sad to see how disliked her voice is. The others are fine but aren’t as memorable and don’t leave much of an impression. Linda’s dub has the most character and fits Usagi/Serena’s silly and churlish personality! Big props to her for being a great voice actor and actually leaving a memorable impression!!
The main issue with her voice is that she sounds way too old because of her trying to imitate Terri Hawkes, she should've just voiced her naturally.

See, i'm having this weird mandela effect about watching Sailor Moon growing up. I remember Linda Ballantyne voicing Serena/Usagi on the episodes that aired with DBZ in the morning before school for me (this was in the 90's), and likely on the Fox Kids block. After hearing her after Terri and Tracey, voice actress strikes me as Serena/Usagi a lot more from the past. The reason why there's a small flaw in this is apparently Linda didn't start voicing Serena/Usagi until 2000's. Very interesting, brain!

All three of the original english voice actress are better than viz media. In the original dub the different voice actresses actually make it seem like she's maturing into the queen. Especially Linda Ballantyne

Yeah, i agree with that too. I actually prefer the dic dub voice actresses way more than the viz dub version to be honest. All three voice actresses for serena from the dic dub/cloverway dub made it seem like serena was growing up and she was also sounding older as the anime went on to be honest.

NGL I watched all three of them as Serena and I noticed the voice changes and I cared at that time but now its all just a nostalgia wave lol

The first one sounds really soft, sweet and girly, but kind of flat, the second one is full of personality, charm and charisma, spunk and spirit, it's also a bit quirky, the third one just sounds like a poor imitation of the second one. The second one is my fav, the most appealing and distinctive of the three, followed by the first and then the third. All the voice actors and actresses were stellar around the time sailor Venus was introduced, you couldn't ask for a more superb & talented cast, the series should've stuck with them.

I believe Linda was trying to imitate Terri's voice when she took over for the series. I think she grew into the character through her time on the show, and the voice relaxed more into her own. I love all their voices because I grew up with the series and didn't notice the difference much as a kid, but I can understand why some people might not feel she filled the role well (though all the people saying she "ruined Sailor Moon" are taking it a little too far, in my opinion).

Tracey voice was adorable for Sailor Moon but Terri is the one that's most memorable. Hard to say which one was better. But Linda's voice was down right horrible. I felt like she tried way too hard to sound like Terri. For Sailor Moon S and Super S they should have brought back Tracey since Terri couldn't voice Sailor Moon.

Tracey Moore was the absolute BEST. She's the Sailor Moon I grew up with and love.
Terri's voice is my favorite, hands down. I like Tracy too, but it threw me off re-watching from the beginning because I don't remember her at all since she had such a short run. Linda is one that sounds really weird starting out but she ends up growing on me when I get used to her voice all over again.
I've watched all that's available of the new dub on Hulu as well, and Stephanie is... I still don't know how to feel about her. She's alright but something about her voice just doesn't fit it for me. I'm just too attached to the old voices.

Tracey Moore & Terri Hawkes's voices transitioning with each other wasn't bad though, honestly. I didn't realise it for the longest times. But Linda's voice was significantly different to me. (this is just me though!!!!)

Terri Hawkes has the most personality and quirkiness in her voice. I love her so much for her role, she was literally perfect for Serena. I wish they had gotten Tracey Moore as Serena when Terri was pregnant rather then Linda, she sounds way too old. 💜

XDD I feel each of these women brought something special and unique to sailor moon. i don't care who was better (i really liked Terri, but that's my own opinion) When i was i a kid i never cared. Honestly, I think it's a matter of personal taste. I think all voices are a good fit for Sailor Moon. It really just depends on how each of us imagines Sailor Moon. We all picture Sailor Moon differently. I like Terri's voice the most because I was exposed to her voice the most in the dub. It's nostalgia for me.
Terri and Tracey's voices are almost indiscernible sometimes. They are the Serena/Usagi of my childhood. I associate Linda's voice with the dubs getting seemingly lazier...but her voice wasn't my favourite for Usagi.
Nice to see there's some Tracey fans out there. I thought it was odd how it changed back and forth between her and Terri then stayed on Terri. I would have liked to have seen Tracey follow through the whole first season. Only thing I didn't like with Terri was how she'd put an English accent on her voice when she was a princess. With Linda I gave her a week and I couldn't stand her and the rest of the new cast. So I waited until they came out on DVD before I finally saw all of S and Super S.

When I was young, I couldn't tell the difference between Terri and Linda! I thought they were the same voice actress. But Terri will always be Usagi to me. Her rendition of Usagi is spot on! Usagi is a goofy character and I feel that Terri captured that well

The emotion she showed in Sailor Moon S Episode 36: Darkness, My Old Friend, when Serena tried hopelessly to use Moon Crisis Power, despite the Purity Chalice having been sacrificed to summon Pharaoh 90 beforehand, and seeing her pounding her fist on the floor, choking back tears at the thought of losing Hotaru(and how upset Rini would be if that happened) made me feel for her a bit. Of course, those feelings were dampened a bit when Serena used the power of Heart(Go Planet!) to forcefully transform into Super Sailor Moon, when it seemed like the Purity Chalice should have been gone for good. But I'm probably just nitpicking at small details. I actually still like the original english dub, despite all of its flaws.
+NeoSigma18 Terri Hawkes was my favorite, but I really didn't mind Linda's voice all that much. It was different at first, and sort of hard to get used to, but all of the emotion she put forth in not only the last few episodes of S, but in SS with the mirror, and then when she's jumping down to save Rini after she's thrown off of Nehelenia's circus tent, made me tolerate her more.

Kat Alexander Linda's voice is cringe. I couldn't take linda serious with that voice. Imagine Linda voicing either Jotaro (jojo's bizarre adventure) and or Guts(berserk) or Asuna(sao) and or Kaneda(akira) or Ellie(the last of us) she will ruin important sad sceanes with that god awful dub voice she used for usagi. Her dub voice makes the bad dub of devilman ova and all 4kids dub of animes look like funimation in comparison.

I distinctly remember Terri from my childhood. I remember Linda a little bit, but.. I don't remember Tracey at all. o_o;
Linda literally reminds me of my childhood being sucked away and is the reason I have only watched a couple of episodes with her being the voice actress
People seem to forget that MOST (not all) cartoons & anime that were dubbed back in the 90's were pretty bad. Certain things had to be changed in a lot of series. Like in Sailor Moon; Sailor Neptune & Sailor Uranus (I've forgotten their names at the moment) are lovers NOT cousins. Jadeite said some nasty remarks about women which was changed to banter between him and the scouts when they fought. They had to make Sailor Moon suitable for kids which they did.
I did enjoy these three different takes on Serena/Sailor Moon, I grew up watching them after all. But this new dub needed to happen, bless Viz Media for bringing us the original series uncut and with new voices!
Sailor moon isn’t even supposed to be for little kids, it’s targeted to teenagers and young adults

I grew up with Linda's voice, its the serena i've always known. Honestly I thought it always fit with her quirky personality, not sure how I feel about Stephanie (viz dub) and sometimes I confuse Serena and Luna when they talk. I miss the original voices.
Terri is my favorite, Tracey a close second...I never really noticed the switch between those two, but it might be because of how far apart the seasons aired in the US. Linda absolutely ruined it for me. Most of SuperS is unwatchable for me because of her and a few other changed voice actresses.
Agree with the concensus that Terri is the best. She sounds really good. The last one is painful.
