To answer a few questions I'm sure quite a few people will ask before the fill the comments: 1) The background footage is from Girls und Panzer Dream Tank Match 2) I'm not an Uber fan of GuP I just appreciate what it does for the Tank community 3) The Cone standing in the corner is to hopefully prevent the automatic ID system to detect the small clips I used for reference since it IS fair use for this purpose but could still get flagged (fingers crossed) Hopefully you guys enjoy this video and if you want to suggest movies for me to potentially make a video like this about in the future comment them below.
I think the Russian film, T-34 shows that dynamic between the different crews in a few of the scenes, such as the opening tank battle and the latter one. Although the Germans aren’t always getting their forefront distinction, they show it nonetheless. Also a great film for CGI stuff as well. Looks really damn good
@@dsdy1205 i don't remember that but it might have happened because i sure do remember the porsche tiger burning out of nowhere and the mechanics explaining that the engine was not good enough or something like that
I'm majoring as a history teacher (hoping to have my diploma next year) and I have been teaching high school kids and even some older ones for the last three years during internships. The hardest part is really to make it interesting for them. It doesn't take long for kids to question you why they are learning history and about dead people, like it doesn't matter to them. One of the best moments I had was when I was teaching a class about the 2nd World War and I had brought a few items along to show them. The boys of course were interested in my M1905 bayonet (the long boi) that I brought with me, because it's a weapon. However before that class I came with the idea to buy a can of Fanta from the vending machine in the school. This was the item they were most interested in. Of course I asked them what they thought Fanta had to do with World War II. They partially got it right by saying it was something that existed during World War II and was drunken by soldiers. When I told them the story of how and why it was invented by Nazi-Germany, they got hooked into the story. It really shows that there is a certain connection you need to make between history and the current day, in this case a historical and current day every day object. The best part came when at the end of class one student asked if he could have the can of Fanta. He asked it nicely so I gave it to him. While I was cleaning up the desk after class and students left the classroom I suddenly heard: "I GOT A CAN OF NAZI SODA!" From the hallway. It had me laughing and told me I did a good job.
I introduced my sister to this Anime, and after 10 days, I caught her printing wallpaper of different tanks and keeping them in a folder, So I guess what you said is correct, this show does create curiosity in someone who is unaware of it, A month after that, My sister started playing War Thunder, Also, she gave a presentation on Mariya Oktyabrskaya "Fighting Girlfriend", a woman tank driver and her crew, on woman's day,
They have one short story where the German school got disqualified because they brought m47 Patton to the match and Erika´s reasoning was: " They are Tiger tanks, dont you watch battle of Bulge?
You've made a huge mistake. I hoped to avoid the weeb title too, but it's a lie you tell yourself hoping it won't come to pass, but it's already too late. Welcome to the brotherhood of reluctant weeb labeled channels.
What I learned from GuP: 1) KV-2 can be loaded by a girl who weighs less than the shell 2) Tiger ! can go more than 45 minutes before blowing a transmission 3) Japanese tankers were all about the banzai charge.
Tiger I could go for far longer (ask Otto Carius). It was the Tiger II that had such problems, *and you DO learn in GuP that the broken steel roadwheel can be rolled uphill by a single ponytailed schoolgirl at running speed so they can get it repaired in five minutes.* ;-) What you learn about the Tiger I is that *it could traverse its turret 120 deegres in three seconds.* Also, we learn that *Char B1 can sustain (not just "reach") 20 Km/h off road.* The moar you know.
I actually got into tanks because of GuP. I can attest to what you’ve said: I knew basically nothing about tanks other than that the Tiger, Sherman, and T-34 existed. As a result of making the specific machinery stand out (many films use tanks merely as a plot device for the characters instead of as a draw of their own), I became interested in the tanks they used rather than just the story they’re used to tell. And I’ve become really into these tanks since watching the show. Keep up the good work!
@@patrykpatryk3051 uhm, right. Because it's not like i watch gup but also have three Hunnicutt books and as soon as i finish "Pershing" i look forward to getting Can Openers. Right If you watch any anime you must be dumb. Right.
One of the things not mentioned related to the accuracy of the tanks, probably due to Cone not being a megafan of GuP, is that Actas, the animation studio, worked with wargaming to produce the models. This is most apparent in der Film's credits, where wargaming has their own section of people.
Yes and no. They only worked with WoT AFTER the initial anime had already been released. They collaborated on subsequent project namely Das Finale. But the initial anime was a independent and original(not adapted from a manga).
Basically, "Girls und Panzer turns laymen who don't care that the tanks are going too fast into the guys who point out that the tanks are going too fast - because they looked it up themselves."
honestly I was incredibly impressed with the accuracy of the show. It's not the technical accuracies like the "tank drifting" that matter, it's the spirit of it. It's the fact that they play to the historic strengths and weaknesses of the tanks, such as the Churchill's heavy armour or the KV-2s tendency to tip over on a slope, and throughout their stories constantly pepper in tidbits about what life was really like for tankers. Also the research and clear love for the topic that goes into it. Like, if they need a big boss enemy, they won't just make something up, they'll find a REAL tank that was rare or experimental, and if they need to, say, fill a characters room or a cafe with tank memorabilia, they'll go out of their way to make sure that everything relates to something real, like a copy of a real life Tamiya model kit, or a specific type of tank shell
@@highjumpstudios2384 That's a great example. Not only is it a good use of a rare tank, but the tank has one of those great moments where it demonstrates the features of the real tank in a fun way when they detach the outer tracks
I love the GuP. They did a great job of showing the human aspect of tank crew and love the tank design, how the use actually tank tactics, and how each school is model after each nation tank strategies.
No mate these tactics cant be realistic whatever they are. why? because tanks never actually fought each other on close range tank duels in real life was and is now shooting each other from around 1-2km tanks were used as infantry support almost all the time of course there were few tanks vs tank close encounters but it wasnt really common thing. not enough common to make tactics for it generals were trying to avoid tanks getting so close to each other. only in movies they show tanks shotting each other for such close range to make it more fun to watch
@@Soap.-- In GuP the schools are model after the nationals during WW2 and post WW2 and each school use the tactics that would be trained by that nations army during that time period. The average tank battle distance during WW2 was 750-900 yards with a mean of 840 yards. Engagement at ranges beyond 1300 m were uncommon. Do to tank guns design or to type of rounds designed by the national. Also environmental factors also plays a part too.
Except for the fact that they use blitzkrieg in an urban environment. I'm willing to bet even experienced tank crews dont want to do sharp turns and drifts in tight streets.
As a tanker, I was so excited when Fury came out. I was hoping for a movie the showed the struggles and comraderie of a tank crew. While it did that to an extent, I felt it spent far too much energy being gritty and edgy, especially with that shitty breakfast scene. GuP on the other hand does a phenomenal job of showing this. You get a feeling that the not only are the individual crews a family, but the entire team is a family similar to a real tank platoon or company (at least the good ones). That's probably why I enjoy GuP so much. The history nerdism, and the feel good nature that reminds me of the good ol days.
The funny thing about gup is even with its inaccuracy's they are either small and dont matter that much like a name mistake, or its drifting a tank for shits and gigs. it still gets so much right, as a really cool guy put it its an anime for history buffs by history buffs
Not to mention the sound design is really good for a anime franchise, as its sometimes cut by using stock effects. Granted some are still used, but overall the original/close enough sounds are really good, like the the tracks, rounds bouncing, rounds hauling ass towards you. th-cam.com/video/8JTVJJyeYh4/w-d-xo.html (a good example) Oh and the music is fucking amazing, especially in the movies. Shiro Hamaguchi put a lot of effort into making the songs feel full as possible, and even used some obscure songs from Italy and Japan (le fiamme nere, and March of Snow) which is nice to hear. What is sad is that the albums are really hard to get In the states without paying a large premium.
7:19 Additionally, the crew positions are actually modelled as to how it would've been for the crew of the actual tanks. The best example os the M3 Lee, the Driver has to kind of lean to get a good view out of their viewing port. This was shown in the very first episode in the Ōarai vs St. Gloriana Exhibition Match, with the M3 Lee driver sitting not quite in-line with their viewing port.
The thing with GuP is that most of the inaccuracies are clearly intentional choices, not dumb mistakes or pandering or laziness. The people who made the show clearly love tanks, and did their homework. The show is full of subtle details that you'd never notice if you aren't already well informed about the machines involved, but will make you smile when you do spot them. It's like the difference between a skilled musician who purposefully messes around with the music he's playing to have fun, vs an unskilled amateur who plays it wrong because he doesn't know any better. To name just one trivial example: Late in the series, the four girls of the school's automotive club who have been maintaining the tanks until now, join the team to operate the Porsche Tiger prototype, which was a tank well known for its many mechanical issues. At one point, the engine breaks down during during a match. The crew act mildly annoyed rather than surprised, and one girl calmly climbs out and starts fixing the engine, while the tank is still driving. It's completely silly and ridiculous, but on the other hand, the Porsche Tiger *did* have 2 engines with electric drive, so, at least in principal, it really could drive on one engine. Of course, fixing an engine on a moving tank while it's hot from running still silly, but the scene calls out a cool and obscure technical detail in a way that's both humorous and exciting, but it doesn't shove your face in it. It's just a few seconds with no-one calling attention to why they can do that, so you'll only appreciate it later when you get curious and read about the Porsche Tiger (or while watching if you're a real tank nerd).
Or the amusing bit of trivia that in WWII tanks WERE driven over other tanks, both intentionally and accidentally, which is hilariously referenced on the Maus scene (and with a tank whose chasis was later used for a tank towing vehicle, for added amusement value), facts that one discovers when investigating whether the scene is TOTALLY fictional or has at least some kind of plausibility, even if the scene is greatly exagerated for fun. I even remember someone making the calculation that the Hetzer's chasis would REALLY stand that weight without structural failure - but its suspension would not, which is EXACTLY what the series depicts. Also, I've watched footage of WWII-era tanks _actually drifting over cobbled streets_ (a captured T-26 pulling a 180 for show at the victory parade of the winning side of the Spanish Civil War). Have you noticed that ALL the tank drifting scenes (but the ones of the hilariously improved Porshe Tiger - those are done for laughs) happen over paved surfaces? Yes I knew you noticed. They did. But you need to have watched that rare footage or you'll believe it's impossible.
@@MisterNeumeyer Sadly, I can not point to any internet link. That footage I saw in a 1980s(*) (pre-Internet age) TVE documentary about the SCW, so the original footage itself must be in TVE archives - but the documentary itself was never digitalized. It might even be lost - TVE used to record over old recording tapes "to save costs" in the late 80s and early 90s... (*: Yes, that shows my age...)

I've been into ww2 stuff since I was 8 when my dad bought me some books. When I got a ps3 for Christmas the only game I played was birds of steel. I watched videos and dreamed of playing wt. Then I finally mustered 300 dollars to buy myself a ps4 and the first thing I did was download war thunder. I am now 14 and still go to air shows and am finally going to go to tankfest this year (it was cancelled last year.) Learning about ww2 history has been a big part of my life
There Is this 10yo who lives in the same neighborhood, just keeps asking me questions after questions about WW2 he just keeps learning non-stop like, JEEZUS!
The thing about the tank drifting scene is that it is, in fact possible to drift a tank. Perhaps not a WW2 tank, but it is possible to do with an M1 Abrams on sandy or snowy terrain. There's a video of US Marines doing it in Norway somewhere around here.
There are any number of videos of (probably drunk) Russian tankers drifting T-72s and T-90s both on tank roads in their training grounds and on city streets (sometimes with impressive amounts of collateral damage as a result).
Kids seem to be more interested in clothes, drugs and mumble rap about getting more drugs, cars, and girls nowdays rather than guns, tanks, and military history. Atleast in the usa Sadly we are the minority
4:54 well Sabaton is stuff that was entry drug for me, at first "hey that song sounds cool" but then "hey what are they singing about?" eventually developing into "what about context and further implications of what they were singing about and especially what lead to?"
well, u have to give them some credits, for in animations, u can really go wild and it would all it will needs is just couple of skilled animators and story-writers and in live-action movies, u will need actors, props, the vehicles, and others. not mentions the backups, behind-the-scene crew, historians, and permission to use a setting
Besides the explanation with the "safety rounds" and the souped-up engines on everything (which was more for plot than anything else), they didn't do a horrible job with GuP. The vehicles are all real and accurate, the tactics are at least based off of what the original factions used, was all-around entertaining without being WoT-level inaccurate. Besides, any budding history nerd would know better than to see this and actually believe that's how it was in real life.
@@Colonel100 It's an entertainment anime bro, chill. And what's more realistic, a tank flipping or an M4A2 76 not being able to pierce frontally a Tiger I ?
@@nemozinioux Yeah I know. But somebody cannot just diss fury. And this is coming from a man who has never seen fury. But I have seen enough of Girls Und Panzer to know this users post in my opinion is a tad flawed.
@@Colonel100 Flawed ? Yes but actually no, GuP really cared about giving details on how things work to add logic an thus a bit of realism (even when not mentioned in the anime) when in Fury... supposedly experienced crews are acting DUM and more, more problems. The issue is Fury never seems to completely assume to be what it is : entertainment. It never goes full show movie, when it could as so many things are wrong in it. GuP on it's side, cares a lot more about some details like superheavies and tactics.
Came for the tanks, got traumatized about how little school girls lift heavy ammo with little effort and wear skirts in a metal interior (imagine grazing your legs somewhere inside the tank, yikes)
@@samoldfield5220 There's nothing like it if you wish for tank battles. There are some which are perfect if you love series that appreciates history very well though, like Vinland Saga (a really well crafted love letter to viking age) or Legend of Galactic Heroes (which is basically some kind of Prussian Napoleon vs American Yi Sun-Yin epic but in space -- watch the original 4 season OVA for much more historical documentary feel).
The part where Miho and Maho were kids driving to the lake through the rice fields really showed how one could feel alive and at ease with a tank. I know many love tanks, it's a strange like or obsession that I notice just happens to come out in people involved with tanks or an interest in them. like Hana Isuzu with her flower arranging tank vase, thay can be so peaceful. I have never felt that before Girls und panzer. I think tanks might achually bring about not a love for war, but feeling of security and perhaps peace.
Have you actually watched Fury? The guy Norman replaces had his head blown off by a shell in the tank. Tanks are machines of death. Plot armor aside, unless you’re using a tank as farm equipment, which happens more frequently than a person thinks, a tank is designed to kill. End of story. They are pretty cool; I’m a mechanic so I do love to note certain features like drivetrain and suspension whenever I visit museums but aside from that the lowdown is not pretty. But they do beat the trenches. Admiration from afar…
@@ardie4 1. It was girls und panzer not fury two different things and one is irrelevant to the topic as.it was not brought up at all 2. A tank is designed to kill but that depends on the user same with a gun it is designed to kill but it depends on how you use it which defines what it is.
I mean yeah. Tbf i cant recall any TRULY impossible shots, at least in the main series. As in, they got the armour and relative power of the tanks correct. It's realistic enough to attract an expert, but unrealistic enough to be interesting to a casual audience. Realistic tank battles are quite static after all.
"GuP is unrealistic" is the laziest excuse one could give to put down the show. Most animes even without the fantasy element have always been unrealistic. Evangelion is perhaps one of the most renowned animes ever created with a fantastic story, yet the EVAs themselves are 100% unrealistic. Not to mention the fact that the show never explains why only kids can be pilots.
@@imgvillasrc1608 i think they mentioned something about having to sync the EVA's with the Pilots, (kind of like Pacific Rim) and all of the possible candidates who COULD sync up with the EVA's just happened to be kids
@@Lewd-Tenant_Isan Yes but it never explains WHY only kids can link up to the EVAs. There are fan theories floating around but they are merely theories. Regardless, it's not such an important issue as it's not important to the main story at all.
Here’s how I look at it. There’s two types of unrealistic when it comes to history; unrealism done out of ignorance and unrealism done as an artistic choice. While I am usually always in favor of realism over action, in this case I think what they have works great as it’s not in a historical setting and the creators clearly know and respect the actual history behind it.
same, now my interest is fully on tank design rather than history tbh (but i do look for some history stuf too) its fun to imagine how they could make a ''perfect'' version of a ww2/ww1 tank with a better engine and suspension etc or to think wether it would be possible or not to make tanks like the grasshopper or the ratte real in the modern days (even if one would obviously be a detriment and the other ultimately useless)
Im not gonna lie: back when I was still watching anime this was one of my favourite ones. And exactly as described with the Maus scene, the fascination and urge to find out more about this tank has somehow led me to start playing WoT and after some time of playing that game and having finished watching the anime, I basically became obsessed with tanks and WW2 in general lmao
GuP drops a couple references to Kelly's Heroes. Some of the girls are watching it and the small scene is recreated frame-by-frame. Another reference, a student is caught spying on another school and introduces herself as Sargeant Oddball.
Girls und Panzer was the very first anime I've watched that got me into both history and anime at the same time and thus there'll always be a special place in my memory and heart for this anime
Not just comedy. The series is a sports anime about a fictional martial art, but the follow-up movie is a straight-up WUXIA MOVIE (with tank martial arts instead of swodplay!). With every Wuxia cliche turned to eleven. INCLUDING THE IMPOSSIBLE JUMPS. Meaning that the outlandish scenes are even GENRE-ACCURATE.
When you talked about the Maus scene and how that would have looked to a person not familiar with tank history, that actually spoke to me because that actually was me. I went into GuP knowing next to nothing and the Maus scene got me excited to know more about the Maus and tank combat as a whole. The show does do a really good job with making you interested.
I mean, who DOESN'T want to know more about a tank that has its own fucking class? It's like hearing about the Ratte, the Maus' bigger brother. Big enough to put a Naval cannon on it!
I really like this anime, history stuffs aside, the OSTs in this series is a masterpiece. They could at least milked it a little bit more by making more sequels or seasons.
I think only Wargaming had a collab with them adding the Panzer IV Anko, Hetzer, (also giving the Ha-Go a camo), Saunders Sherman Firefly, Kuro Mori Mine, and the most recent being the IS-2 Pravda I’m still waiting for the Pink M3 Lee And I don’t care if Wargaming sell it for 20$ for a reskin M3 Lee GIVE IT TO ME WARGAMING
That sounds oddly... Entertaining... As far as I know, only the Type 90, I think it was, is in GuP. It might be a cool little mini series like Phase Erika
Ironically, GuP is one of the reasons why I got so hooked up with MBTs. Cpt. Chono's Type 10 and her introduction was one of the best parts of the series. Though, I can understand why there are no MBT concept for Sensha-do. Can you imagine trying to tell the difference between a T-72, T-80, and a T-90? M1A1 and M1A2 Abrams? Or even a Leopard 1 and 2? Perhaps full on tank nerds that love modern tanks like me can identify, but for the casual viewer or WW2 onlys, the difference is non-existent or very minimal.
I don't know if it is realistic or not but God, I love that scene. Fun fact: Japanese fans of this series donated money to preverse the last BT-42 in the world.

Girls und panzer is honestly one of the driving factors the got me so into tanks in the first place. Now I’d always had loved these things even as a kid, but only knew stand outs like the tiger and t34. It wasn’t until my teenage years that I found girls und panzer mentioned online, before checking it out for myself, and I agree the plot is a little to be desired. But the battles! Oh the battles are what we are all really there for! It helped drive a spark in my curiosity to learn more about the topic, and now tanks are one my favorite topics of the Second World War! So needless to say o really enjoyed this video haha, though the title is a bit click bait, but eh we’re all used to that by now, either way great video! really made me reminisce about when I first found out about tanks and gup!
WoT got me into tanks. ... probably because I thought many designs were sketchy and I wanted to dispel or verify this notion. The process was fun, though.
I needed to throw my 2 cents in as to why GuP is better than Fury. 1) Fury is a war movie that happens to involve tanks. GuP is a series about tanks written by history nerds that uses a silly premise to make watching tanks more interesting and fun than watching a documentary. But make no mistake: GuP is loaded with historical references and tries to show how different countries used their different tanks in different ways. 2) Fury is a war movie, with the bloody parts that is part of war, but means you cannot watch it with children present. A Lt shooting himself in the head while burning is realistic, but not suitable for children and a girlfriend who is not into war. GuP is unique, even among anime, where you have tank fight scenes, but nobody gets hurt and while fierce competitors, everybody winds up friends. GuP you can watch with older children present. In fact, GuP shows that you can want to win, and be fierce, but respect competitors for their strengths. Most anime, let alone war movies, do not have this message. 3) Tanks among nations: GuP actually emphasizes the differences between nations and their tanks. Yes, it makes caricatures of the various nations, but if you watch the series you know the difference between British/Japanese/German/American/French/Italy (who know Italy had tanks?), their characteristics and how they were employed. StugIII sniping. Heavy British infantry tanks. Gudarian saying a tank's engine is as much a weapon as its cannon. Name one war movie or anime that shows so many nation's tanks to the point that you can tell them apart. 4) Tactics: Yes GuP ignores tank speed. Otherwise, the British infantry tanks like Matilda could not participate with Crusaders. Yet you know Germans like heavy tanks and precision; Americans like firepower and overwhelming numbers; Japanese bonzai attacks. And Fury gets the tactics wrong as well. On the dramatic 3 Shermans vs 1 Tiger, Fury has the German tank commander act like an idiot. First, the Tiger would not break cover and move forward: his advantage is outranging the Shermans - moving forward closes the distance more quickly to his detriment. Second, Fury had the upgraded cannon. Normally German tank commanders target the upgraded Shermans first, leaving the weaker 75mm cannon Shermans for last. In fact, US tanks would paint their upgraded cannons to look short like 75s so they would not be first to be blown up. Fury's Tiger does exactly the opposite to doctrine. Brad Pit should have died first - but then where would the movie be if the Germans followed doctrine and Brad dies quickly. 5) Why would a SS regiment be without panzerfausts, which would make short work of Fury. That is why tanks want infantry support, which is doctrine. 6) History: there are several TH-cams where history nerds describe all the various historical references in GuP. Even their birthdays refer to historical events like the invasion of Russia. Or the Germans hitting Orai quickly by going through the forest, like the Ardennes in May 1940 or the Battle of the Bulge. If you watch GuP several times, you begin to wonder "What was Operation Bagration?" Fury is not about history. It is about war and the tragedy that results. GuP is about WW2 tanks and history, with cute girls in short skirts thrown in for entertainment. 7) Tanks: how many people knew that German tanks, while powerful, had belts that break and other mechanical problems. Or that Shermans could be steered by idiots. Or that Matildas had thicker armor than PanzerIVs. I never heard of a KV-2 or JS-2 or Sherman Firefly. And what about those Finnish tanks! Who knew? And that was without watching the GuP short series about the tanks used in the series. I think you could argue that the tanks in GuP are more important characters than the tanks in Fury. You could get the same information in a documentary, but GuP is more interesting to watch for the entertainment. 8) Guilty Pleasure: I have to admit, that after working hard and getting home late, I continually watch GuP because it has exciting tank battles, but no blood and guts and it is entertaining. Plus it has cute girls, sometimes in bikinis. I can relax, focus on eating, and still be entertained by tank battles, even with my daughter around. Documentaries you have to focus on to get maximum knowledge, and death and destruction is not always wanted. 9) Music: I knew the German Panzerlied. But had never heard the Russian Katyusha. The Japanese songs are quite catchy. I knew the French Onion song because I do French Napoleonic Grenadier reenacting, and so was quite pleased to hear it. The songs are great. I actually looked up Katyusha on TH-cam to hear the whole thing. And that is the difference between Fury and GuP. GuP makes you want to do more research about the stuff they bring up. I did not get that motivation from Fury. 10) Damn I wish my high school offered tankery/Sensha Do. I did NOT want to be in Brad Pitt's shoes. To conclude: Fury is about war and the tragedy that results. Fury revolves around the Human characters. GuP the tanks are at least as important as characters as the girls. Yes, you do get a feel for each of the human characters, and feel sympathy for each one. I already mentioned the nice moral concept of being fiercely competitive but not mean to your opponents. But you also learn that a M3 Lee is outmatched by an Elefant. Or the JagdPanzer is a monster that shrugs off most cannonfire. Or Crusaders are zippy. GuP is completely packed with historical references. If you watch Fury would you know more about tanks than watching, say, Bridge Too Far. But watching GuP you will know more about a large variety of tanks, and not have to endure blood and guts to do it.
You are absolutely right. I have a degree in history and have always been fascinated by world war 2, but I've never really cared that much about the tanks... I'm an airplane and submarine guy... But this show is as fun as it is ridiculous in premise and it prompted me to start researching these vehicles and reading about the experiences of the guys that crewed them. It's pretty much my favorite anime these days.

I also feel that GuP went a step further with the crews. The "enemy" crews typically were satirical form of their given nation (British being pompous, Russian using raw numbers and fighting in the snow...). But, the main cast crew felt like a mix of actual personalities you would find in a fighting unit (maybe not all in one tank, but you get the idea). The charismatic TC, the driver that sleeps half the time, the hyped up gunner/loader. I think everyone knew "that one guy" who fits one of the characters from the main school cast.
The 'Russians' or rather Pravda really gave me some kind of fear when the Main casts were getting trapped away due to them being overly confident after defeating the Italian school.

When you spoke about how the Maus scene can spark an interest, I honestly believe the Tiger encounter in Fury can do the same thing, although the scenes that follow are less than accurate, a normal person wouldn't know. What they see is one of the American Shermans get ripped to shreds with one shot, and then the panic of the Americans, and then.... a shape forms from the smoke. A Tiger, there is German orders from inside, and in the perspective the Americans, she fires, missing, but by only just. The Americans charge and the Tiger (unrealistically) Challenges them, and almost beating them. That scene could very easily spark an interest. Because like Girls Und Panzer, it may be unrealistic, it's still fucking cool.
I love the tiger scene in Fury, not cause it's accurate but think. Fury was the first movie, at least for a very long time, to use an actual Tiger I. What better way to sort of hype it up than with a Wehraboo style, "5 Shermans to beat one Tiger" scene. Of course it's not accurate, but it's cool, and that's what makes it enjoyable
@@heinrich9125 well that's the number one focus of a movie, to be enjoyable. Honestly seeing real Shermans and Tiger 131 shoot up each other in a cinematic way is such a special moment, it didn't really matter if it was a 100% true to the 'potential' reality. Same goes for the other battle scenes. I expected an awesome war movie and it delivered I'd say. Also fury got a lot of stuff right that didn't have to do with the battles itself.
@@heinrich9125 actually there have been actual instances in history where 5 Shermans took on a single Tiger, in one the Tiger took out 4 of the Shermans and the fifth went around the Tiger and knocked out it's fuel supply it occurred October 25, 1944.
@@michaelmckinnon1591 An important thing to remember imo, is that in the real world weird things happen, and sometimes things don't go as one would think looking in from the outside. There are probably instances when Tigers performed exactly as a Wehraboo would think they would, not because they are some invincible fighting machine, but because the Tiger crew performed well, or the Sherman crews performed poorly. Especially in war, things aren't judged entirely by set numbers: crew performance, stress, or just pure luck could affect the outcome of an engagement drastically, so you can't yell too harshly over people doing things they probably shouldn't have done, or complain too harshly about something that should have happened, cause there are times they don't happen. Kinda ranted there, but it's important to think about.
It would of sparked more ijterest if they had shown a sort of 1 off scene of the tiger properly taking out a tank colom. Lead tank. Rear tank. The long gun tanks. Then just finish off the rest before skulking away like a cat stalking its prey.
Bachelor in History going on Master here, most other serious history students I know and even young Historians who are actively starting in the field all got their love of history from media. Unironically, watching Girls und Panzer and playing World of Tanks gave me my entry into history, along with other games that came out later. I don't even particularly watch anime anymore, but I still love Girls und Panzer for the fact that while it may not be accurate to anything, it really did serve as an entryway into researching armored vehicles and later the War itself, and now I work for a prominent museum as a Holocaust researcher because I had gotten into the field with passion from a young age.

Bruh even tho playing WT for a long time now watching this show was the thing that low key got me into tanks and the history around/behind them. ( this was 4 years ago )

It had me laughing and told me I did a good job.

honestly I was incredibly impressed with the accuracy of the show.
Like that bit in the first movie where the T-28 superheavy shows up. That thing put up some stakes.

Additionally, the crew positions are actually modelled as to how it would've been for the crew of the actual tanks.

No? Exactly
The thing about the tank drifting scene is that it is, in fact possible to drift a tank. Perhaps not a WW2 tank, but it is possible to do with an M1 Abrams on sandy or snowy terrain. There's a video of US Marines doing it in Norway somewhere around here.
There are any number of videos of (probably drunk) Russian tankers drifting T-72s and T-90s both on tank roads in their training grounds and on city streets (sometimes with impressive amounts of collateral damage as a result).

and in live-action movies, u will need actors, props, the vehicles, and others.

Whenever someone brings up GuP being unrealistic, i always answer "its realistic enough"

World of Tanks:The Anime
Lmao
@@theskeletons2317 My friend owns a GuP Pz. IV in WoTb.
Pretty fun, I'd say!
All I say is yes, Exactly.

When you spoke about how the Maus scene can spark an interest, I honestly believe the Tiger encounter in Fury can do the same thing, although the scenes that follow are less than accurate, a normal person wouldn't know.
My favorite part: polka starts playing...
That's how I learned that they actually used that song to jam radio-mines...
This is the exact purpose of my ranting on the comments. How ‘bout: ‘Sturer Emil: Cursed by Design’? If you are really serious and unbound by payment or any other condition, then you shall consider my suggestion.
Don't forget that the Chieftan himself Nicholas Moran worked on Girls und Panzer
The thing about enticing viewers with a bit of something to get them interested to learn more is real. I'm not a history buff and I had no idea what the maus was before watching GuP but after ep 11 I spent an evening researching the thing from all different manners (technical, historical, political etc...) which then went on to me researching other tanks in the series, just because I thought they looked cool.
"Kids don't care".
Fortunatly, me a 15 year old, is interested in history
Me too
10 year old who can relate
Same
Same
I am still in Middle school and I have watched Saving Private Ryan and 1917 as well as Inglorious Bastards. So yeah, there are kids who enjoy history.
I still waiting for Tonk II to begin production
Bruh even tho playing WT for a long time now watching this show was the thing that low key got me into tanks and the history around/behind them. ( this was 4 years ago )
As a weeb and a WW2 nerd, I love GuP. It made me interested on how the tank and it's crew operates and also made me appreciate the work those tankers put into their job.
A few great animes related to history I would recommend would be KanColle, Azur Lane, and Haifuri. Made me into a naval history nerd too.
This is one of my favorite shows in the world. I love how it shows the tank combat in a completely different way than we would see in normal media
The historical accuracy is also very good. Things like the Tiger P episode and the times they put upgrades on the Panzer IV. The Tiger P episode is one of my favorites as they just get stuck in mud and catch on fire a lot lol.
76mm doesn't pen the front of tiger in fury me: (dies of cancer)
I’ve never see Fury was the tiger angled at all?
@@Skylikesavation Nope flat as a table and the shells bounce like nothing. even do they are 76mm that should go through without effort at that distance.
@panzer mince I'll give you that especially since fury's tank was a fire fly Made to take on tigers from front on correct?
@@toastplayz_9726 Not quite. Fury was an American M4A3(76)W HVSS or the so called "Easy 8". The Firefly is slightly different and British.
Tanks and school girls, it's everything that a historian nerd/weeb need. I love that anime, i hope that the new film will be released soon.
