i walked in to guitar center in january, saw this exact pedal on clearance for $22, and immediately bought it. i walked in a few months later and saw it in the used pedal display case for $70. i think i made an alright purchase.
I bought the "Classic Distortion" waaaaaay back in 2009 for $25 at the Guitar Center near Fort Hood, Tx....just picked up it's brother the "Classic Overdrive" today. Now that I've got em both...my drive section is COMPLETE!!
I would like to say thank you to you for all your videos. I have watched a bunch. Whenever I want to see a demo, you are one of the few people I will go to first.
the CLASSIC OVERDRIVE (white and green versions) were just the GT-OD with a different paint job and sold cheaper solely thru Guitar Center. Same guts in the inside, including a little switch that switches from the Classic mode to the Zack Wylde OD version. 2 pedals in one! I've got the green one and totally dig it!!
I got the white GC one about 2 weeks ago and really like it. But when I opened the back to try the switch - no switch. So I just found this video and the switch is on top of the circuit board, i.e. you have to remove the board! th-cam.com/video/qKMhZyQ7zW8/w-d-xo.html
i got the mxr micro amp and that little bugger is boss ... think i might need to add this mxr od to the setup and put the microamp as an all the time boost at the beginning of the chain ... thanks fo rthe demo
I have a classic MXR Distortion+ and it does not have a Tone knob, just Output, and Gain. Inside it consists mainly of one 741 Op Amp IC. There's not much to it. Look on Instructables for a build I did of the GM Arts Overdrive pedal. It's cool! My name there is pfred2, the full article name is GM Arts Overdrive Pedal Build I think it's all of that and a bag of chips.
Emmanuel Victoria I have both and i find the mxr to have a more thicker tone with a little less gain while the soul food has a lot of gain and much brighter tone.
Emmanuel Victoria Good glad i helped someone. I do reviews and stuff on my channel and i'm thinking about doing a shootout of those 2 pedals this week acually so keep an eye out for my video.
I have a question is this pedal kinda like a plexi cause I am lookin for a good plexi pedal that won't break the bank so far I am really lookin at the tone city golden plexi
+Jacob Koehn I had the golden plexi it's more of a distortion pedal than an overdrive. It has a lot of gain on tap after 12 o'clock it just gets noisier but sound doesn't change much. Well for me at least. It sounded great at guitar center but I don't own a 800 dollar amp or a 600 dollar strat lol. It definitely depends on your rig
Kurt Cobain is dead. He's been dead for almost 20 years. Even if the DS-1 wasn't awful, you'd need to find one from the late 80s or early 90s to achieve the same thing.

Bro i got mine for 35 as a black Friday sale. Best thing I've bought in my life

LOVE this pedal
MXR pedals are pretty much true to your guitar tone. They do not flavor the signal. Just add the effect. That is a good thing.
Dang this sounds good...
I have this pedal. I love it. 2nd best $30 I've ever spent.
lol, what the best $30 you spent?
holy shit, sweet pedal!
Makes me want to swap out my ocd for this, which is something I thought I’d never say

@@6stringmadness877 damn
I was so mad when I found out about the switch. I traded a zw od for this pedal at guitar center! Gah! =P
Rob McAllister Yeah but now you have both!
I have the same exact one except it’s green. Wonder if there’s any difference other than that.
the green is the product line, the white is a limited addition guitar center-only. same circuit tho
Thanks ,I was wondering too
how do you do it so that it does not transfer to electricity to signal?
or you use another type of power source?
Is this what hard clipping sounds like, I'm not familiar enough with circuitry yet
this is soft clipping. a hard clipping pedal would be like a Klon
This Vid made me dump my ZW-44. Now I have both in 1!
I don't know. I have the same pedal, and I can't really get a great sound out of it. Any recommendations?
use it with your amps gain and turn the pedals output knob up and the gain knob down
Guitar lessons?
@@AntwhaleNearfar thanks, I figured it out after 9 years.
Do some demos of Walrus Audio Pedals!!!
SUPER
I think the best tone is the one you have without pedals, it's kickass!
I just got this off e bay
GMD, have you ever tried or demoed the MXR zakk wylde overdrive pedal?
could you do a demo of a boss ds-1?, i heard that kurt cobain uses one
Mine is green I didnt know they came un white
difference between this and electro harmonix soul food?
Emmanuel Victoria I have both and i find the mxr to have a more thicker tone with a little less gain while the soul food has a lot of gain and much brighter tone.
Aaron Skok thanks bro really comes in handy!
Emmanuel Victoria Good glad i helped someone. I do reviews and stuff on my channel and i'm thinking about doing a shootout of those 2 pedals this week acually so keep an eye out for my video.
