    i bought this when it was released. the original green case. i was told it was essentially a reboxed GTOD with the switch to go between the two. great pedal that i still use to this day. great content as always Robert.

    Thanks for being one of the few TH-camrs that doesn’t begin a video without playing before getting to the point. Just demo the gear. I don’t care about sweeps and shit. Keep up the good work.

    I had no idea they still made these. Bought mine 10 years ago when they were a GC exclusive for $29.00. I wanted a ZW overdrive so I removed the internal switch and added a toggle switch next to the tone switch.

    This reminds me of the Horizon devices nano attack, which has an internal gain pot (like the stone deaf pdf-1)

    @BigMateo24 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I remember when they were $30 bucks. I used to mod these things for my friends by adding a toggle switch to the case. Kind of shady on MXR's part, but it works out to be a spectacular deal in the long run.

    It’s true I have one I modded years ago with the switch moved to the outside so I can switch it, definitely a mid shift sound.

    If you leave the secret switch in the middle, it becomes The Classic GTO Wylde Pedal. 'Love this demo man!

    I guess the cover is used as part of the circuitry to connect negative points on the circuit board, that switch is good to know!

  • @alexandersmith3334
    @alexandersmith3334 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    What I believe the switch moves from a TS style symmetrical clipping circuit and a Boss SD-1 Asymmetrical clipping circuit. Remember that Zach used a SD-1 before he got his endorsement with MXR. So it's a souped up Tubescreamer in one position and a souped up SD-1 in the other.

    Another great, informative video, Robert. I had no idea the pedal had an internal switch (since I only own 5 pedals and only use 4 of them, all reverb, tape echo, and delay pedals, I'm sure it is obvious and unsurprising to all). All additional information available is always welcome. Please keep the great videos coming!

    Sounds like a cool project to unsolder that micro-switch and wire in a toggle for. Drill a hole in that housing and be able to flip back and forth. Its like 2 pedals in 1!🤘

    • @HomeGuitarMods
      @HomeGuitarMods ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have one of these and did that mod. Mounted a toggle right on top. I completely forgot about this pedal, it’s been on a shelf for years, guess I should break it out.

      @@HomeGuitarMods Awesome man! As soon as I seen it I thought man, that has to have a switch to change without taking it apart.

    I have one of these, buyed already with a external switch. I use it with level at max and gain between 0 and 10% most of the time. It ads sustain and a bit of chug on palm'mutes without mudding the sound

    My mxr custom comp has adjustments inside. There are many pedals that do..
    It's escaping me right now but one of the ocd type pedals has a switchable buffer.
    The glove has a stiwch to run 18 or 9 volt inside.

    In ZW mode it gets a bit of gate fuzz. Not for me but some people are going to like it that way.

    Was you tube vids listed about it many years ago shortly after the pedal came out time went on people forgot.
    I was one of some that spoke about this on the last video lol.
    Pretty cool though isn't it?
    The Zack pedal also has it.
    Nothing changed but the case painting.

    Many overdrives have user adjustable switches or trim pots in their interior.
    The difference with this one is it’s not intended as user adjustable. You’d never know it was there unless you took the pedal apart as it’s not visible from the side you’d see by just taking off the back plate.
    It is on MXR’s part a slight bit shady.

    • @frankdiehl8749
      @frankdiehl8749 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True, even a cheap Behringer Vintage Delay pedal it turns out. Adjusts the range on the delay time, quite useful.
      The pedal business has always been somewhat shady with their practices. I have a feeling all these circuit boards were made with 12vDC in mind, I run 'm all from a cheap 12v adapter. Just says 9v because some genius thought it was handy to facilitate the option for a 9v block battery on some. I mean why not try to sell people overpriced 9v adapters as well while they're at it... Found some pedals sound better with the 12v... On others no audible difference to me.

    Some people wire a switch to the case to be used without taking it apart again, just a toggle

    • @RobertWJackson
      @RobertWJackson  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d kind of like to do that with this one, but I’m not much at modding my own pedals.

  • @jerryhatrick5860
    @jerryhatrick5860 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Mxr carbon copy has an inside adjustment for modulation also that isn't documented.

  • @graemejones218
    @graemejones218 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I knew I prefered this pedal from the previous video. I guess the switch remained a secret so people paid a premium for the ZW pedal. But as that's no longer available, wouldn't it make sense to advertise this switch? Or even have a recess so you could switch between the 2 sounds without taking it apart. I suppose if they did the latter, the pedal would increase in price & wouldn't be in the affordble bracket anymore. Probably wise to keep it as is, but it now becomes even more of a bargain. For those that subscribe & watch your very informative video's that is. Otherwise they may never know. Great stuff AGAIN Robert. Happy new year sir.

  • @timlaine6268

    Get a 2 way micro switch and drill a hole in the pedal to accept the switch.

    Robert, my man. You need to test that pedal with a clean to crispy amp. Flat out Judas Priest tone is not going to be a great platform to show what the pedal does. I appreciate your vids, and its not a sleight against you at all. Just a rando opinion. Thanks for putting the time in.

    I guess why get The Super Bad Ass Pedal when all MXR pedals are bad ass anyway. Yes I did see a demo from 10 years ago. The pedal was cool but for $100.00.
