We’re all caught in our own dream - monks included - and to try to escape it only leads us back into the dream. There’s no escape. Nobody can show you the way out or to a better dream - no monk, religion or teaching. You are inescapably yourself and that’s the beauty.
Is there a consciousness (knowing) separate and apart from the five khandhas.? Doesn't consciousness arise in conjunction with the sense objects and bases.?

Metaphorically speaking, pure consciousness is the fabric background where sense consciousness arises and passes away.
