Yes there is a higher happiness one can attain but it's not easy. You can meditate for 50 years and not find it. We are told not to "want it" because then we are craving and clinging. If we do get a taste of it we are told not to get excited and like it too much or we will lose it. It can be a very frustrating confusing path full of paradox so many different perspectives about what is the correct way etc.

Nobody expects the dhamma Inquisition! Our chief weapon is surprise... surprise and fear... fear and surprise... Our two weapons are fear and surprise... 12 fold kamma and it's fruit ...._- kamma to be experienced here and now and all the rest- Our three weapons are moral shame, and moral dread and patience... and an almost fanatical devotion to the suttas... I agree with another comment, he is one of the greatest teachers. His teaching, "It's like this", has saved me so many times I can't count. He is REAL, HE KNOWS AND TEACHES THE TRUTH.
