If one can look past the incomprehensible levels of wealth of the clients here, to admire the meticulous attention of detail of the architecture and interior design, but also the craftsmanship of putting it together; the work is art itself.
One cannot look past the levels of wealth becasue it's expressed everywhere in this build. I found it boring. much like paper cut artworks where the effort involved is always present and overshadows the impact and potential impact. I can only see the opportunity cost but to do that requires imagination.
@@stevewren1079 No. Any design is a function of constraints, including budget. In this case, the budget appears high for marginal design gains. If the same budget was spent in different ways I would expect a better design outcome. I would expect similar design outcomes could have been achieved with a smaller budget. The oportunity cost is what else could have been constructed with the same expenditure and that requires imagination and insight. I was being ostentatious with language and ideas. I believe this build is ostentatious (pretntious and showy) rather than good design. I like people with money. I like good design.
@@stevewren1079Yes, 100%. A person with wealth has either paid workers less than the true value of their labour, exploiting them, or had hoarded vital assets so as to extract rent from those who have no choice.
O….M….G….. I am blown away by this. The interiors…the design and architecture. The trades and builders on this project need to be applauded for executing such a stunning structure which is like a beautiful pice of art. Shaun….you are brilliant!
On TH-cam, Australian and New Zealanders are the best architects hands down. And they have they have the perfect climate/enviroment/landscape to complement the houses they build as well.. So jealous 😢
Apart from this architectural piece of art I would like to compliment the person(s) who did the filming. He*she*they captured the building beautifully. And last but definitely not least the editor. Wonderful work.
The soothing curves, roof garden terrace, satisfying yet calculated layering of the blond brick, and pleasant surprises from the interior designer make this home a unique treasure. Splendid project!
This is without a single doubt one of the most amazing homes that I've ever see. First, the use of curved surfaces immediately gives the house a very organic, cozy vibe. On top of that, it looks compact, which reinforces the coziness factor, in contrast of those huge homes that look like an industrial building with every room very apart of each other, feeling distant and cold. This home is nothing like that, it invites you to live there. Amazing job from everyone involved, including the skilled workers that built every beautiful detail of it. PS: That chevron floor looks stunning.
I so agree. Imagine having the strength and luxury of opting out of usable space to create so many voids in the name of design integrity?! Serious kudos to both the design team and the clients. I’ve watched this 3 times now to catch more bits ❤
Astounded by how architects manage to find new ways to say “it’s there. Something else used to be there. But now a new thing is there. There is here, and here was there too. But ultimately, here is here.”
Wow! What a spectacular house! The curves are so sensual and the raw concrete is softened perfectly by wood and soft interiors. I really love the skylights and double-height spaces around the stairs and the dining room. It's a great way to bring light inside the house and create a true wow factor with architecture, while still keeping spaces intimate enough to feel like a true home vs. some resort or an office building. The house also looks stunning from the outside! It's just perfect for that site, which was not easy to do considering how narrow it was and how you had to build 3 levels to fit the house there.
Love the soft finishing and textures of the home, the architectural details of the home are incredible as is the owners art curation. The kitchen counter is most ethereal with that pendant light. An amazing project that nailed the clients brief.
This is such an amazing work of art. The curtain around the dinning room with the void above is so beautiful. It takes the old separation of rooms but keeps them connected at the same time. What a remarkable piece of art.
Very contemporary versus the older style of the existing building, I really like the voids, but the lack of connection to the existing building did feel uneasy, but I guess the brief was executed as per client's wishes at the end of the day.
I can relate to the architect so much with their vision and design aesthetic - it's a beautifully crafted and balanced home with so much enjoyment, care and attention to detail in every direction. It just mirrors visually to what I set out to do aurally as a composer!! :) BRAVO to all involved in this stunning project. I can just imagine the thrill the owners experience literally every time they set foot inside their home.
I often watch these videos and thrive on the fantasy of what it must be like to be wealthy yet I often end up thinking to myself, "wow, you have all this money and THIS is what you bought with it?" This is a perfect example of money spent right!
What a beautiful home! It does have a lovely 'gallery' feel, and I love the use of voids. I'm curious how people keep large textile artworks, like the one shown here, clean over the years.
Amazing house in a heavenly area. I will never understand how some poeple can think melbourne beats sydney. Its a trillion to nil. Incomparable night and day difference
Absolutely splendid! So sensual and sublime. I have a question about the concrete formwork, which is absolute perfection. May I ask what type of material was used to build them and what was used to line the formwork? The craftsmanship is so beautiful.
I live in Sydney and been to Birchgrove...Birchgrove in a unique suburb where its still has 100yr old houses on the shoreline...its a nice quiet area without the crowds of the inner city area
A detail I love is that the metal trim and framing is colored brass instead of the more typical black. Here, the framing intentionally blends into the home's broader palette instead of creating harsh outlines as an afterthought or by accident. It's a minor point, but once you see it, you can't unsee it (as the kids say).
just yesterday, we have that house in Mendenhall river of Alaska soak up by water. W/ houses so close to the ocean, it can get dissolved by flooding or by ocean wave or by global warming
Me too. I wonder if there were historical restrictions preventing that. As it is, it seems like the old part of the home was treated as a foyer you speed through to get to the new part, and like they truly are two separate buildings.
Fantastic artistry and craftsmanship. I have to confess, it's not really to my personal taste. A bit too stone-coloured, stark, bare and concrete-y for me personally. And I find some of the spaces a bit too cavernous and lacks cosiness and warmth. But I am well aware that it's catering to a specific brief and it definitely does that spectacularly. Great view - and I love the seamless blend of multiple outdoor courtyards and outdoor terraces blending into the scenery and pool and harbour views.
Bailed out of Australia after Covid Lockdowns Closed all our Businesses and moved to Florida.. Loss of 14,000 Jobs and 10,000 Sub Contract Jobs ,, All offices and Wearhouses and Dockyards are now empty … And all i can say is Well done DAN ANDREWS ,
It’s very nice. Super expensive of course. The budget for cleaning the windows alone would be significant. And everyone needs at least 3 sitting rooms that you never use.
It kinda gets old to see what can be done for people with lots of money. With millions of people living a substandard life because of there housing, it would be equally brilliant to offer housing solutions that are affordable for the masses.
That's beautiful! But I can never understand why people want to stick a modern house (even one as fabulous as this (the flowing curves!) onto the back of an old heritage mansion. Buildings should be apiece, of themselves, one. Not two foreign styles enjambed.
can we agree that these smaller (very relatively) homes in australia are much better deisgned than those 100M homes in the US?granted, this home probably costs 40M as well lol

Thank you so much for sharing this video. Wonderful house and videography.
Copy that
When the architect puts as much of himself in the mechanical room as the rest of the house - yes! Love it.

Stunning home, in all its facets! I especially appreciate seeing the plant room; a place that is very rarely shown to us.
I love the plant room!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Absolutely striking building. Every angle hides beautiful forms and shapes.

It is so stunning it makes me want to weep. That only the super rich get to live in such beautiful, out of this world, buildings.
Less rich people can have very beautiful tiny homes (or so i'll dream for myself)
Absolutely breath taking, the curves and the colour palette were fantastic choices.
Love the soft finishing and textures of the home, the architectural details of the home are incredible as is the owners art curation. The kitchen counter is most ethereal with that pendant light. An amazing project that nailed the clients brief.

Really love this house and how they blended new and old with respect to both.
This house is incredible! the title is not an overstatement.
It was great to see a technical part of house as well) how to efficiently warm up the home or make it cool in hot days.
High five. 10 out of 10. Also one of the prettiest black bathrooms ever. ❤
Wow, wow, wow. Beautifully designed and executed. Stunning curves. Gorgeous details everywhere you look. Love it. 💖 Spectacular...This home is ART.
This is a beautiful home, the architects hit a home run with it.
Love the Tom Dixon light over the dining room table.
Very contemporary versus the older style of the existing building, I really like the voids, but the lack of connection to the existing building did feel uneasy, but I guess the brief was executed as per client's wishes at the end of the day.
Exquisite!! Sophisticated and with iconic Sydney curves and steel in the structure. Clever use of the roof terrace too.

I love the use of the board formed architecturally exposed concrete. Especially with the curved surfaces, great share!
This building reminds me of Casa Battlo and Casa Mila, the work of my favorite Architect Antoni Gaudi.
Kudos to the entire team that worked on this. It’s an absolute masterpiece! 🥂🎉🙏🏼
Immaculate details. That curved glass 😙👌🏼
Can't wait for my 10 book 😊
I've enjoyed your content so much over the years.

I’m going to be bold an unequivocal. This is one of my favourite homes I have ever seen. I am covetous (but in touch with reality)
This is an absolutely beautiful house and design. The whole concept is outstanding and the delivery looks flawless ❤😊

Wow. This is gorgeous
They play with space really nicely
Would these guys ever consider building outside of AUS? For the right price perhaps?
These are just the architects/designers. It's the building contractor you really should ask.
I'm speechless
Amazing! Stunning! Fantastic! wow°°°°°!!!!!

We think you do too!
I love the design of the new part of the home, but I wish they had been able to replace the front of the home to make it consistent throughout.
Me too. I wonder if there were historical restrictions preventing that. As it is, it seems like the old part of the home was treated as a foyer you speed through to get to the new part, and like they truly are two separate buildings.
This kind of buildings needs a lot of land around them.
No isolation whatsoever? Is that not a thing in Australia?
Not sure what you mean . Isolation from neighbours ? That’s one of this generations worst failings - separation from “ the village” !
Fantastic artistry and craftsmanship.

How can anyone afford this?
Finally a sensible response to the housing crisis in Australia. Perfect for a first home...
hero - is the STEELWORK not mentioned
who are the contractors
Rhetorical question in the title: it’s yes, the answers is yes
When can I move in?
I mean it's a beautiful location and house but i don't know how I feel about this. For some reason, the tones remind me of a Westfields? Haha
Love it all …except the unfinished, stretched knitted jumper hanging on the wall .

I guess the jokes on me for spending my life savings (so far) to buy a 1 bedroom house near London 😢
