Archie used to have lots of stress bars in his feathers and they used to be so dull! After we got him, he started getting brighter colours and now he’s the prettiest boy. ❤️
I look forward to the bath video, Choco sometimes loves a gentle misting, other times he flies a mile. He likes to keep me company in the shower, and will sometimes still hop on my shoulder to get a little splash on him (obviously i only let him do this if this is before Ive used any products, and all products I do use are not artificially scented) Ive even got a little battery operated fountain thing from amazon on the way, looks like a small childs toy, which is apparently popular for birds to play and bath in! Hopefully he'll take to that because he really doesnt get misted as much as I feel he should be!
With birds of prey, i use a technique where i put bent feathers in hot water and they are put back in place. Hedwig is a clumsy bird and her tail feathers are all bent 😕 Great video!
My cockatiel Pete is moulting. I am amazed at how many feathers he is losing. I try to help with lots of scritches. I’m going to try eggs for him today. He likes peas too. He doesn’t seem as active not flying as much. He likes to spend more time with me. Thanks for the info.
11:01 I live in southeast asia so it's humid here (no winter but since I live in a tropical country I really want to try a winter season 🤣) but I normally have aircondition on because I like a cool weather, however my parrot's cages r in the hallways so no air-conditioning there
The best set of Bird care videos from a fellow UK person I have seen so far. (from both of you). Subscribed to both channels and looking forward to more videos. Cheeky question, any tips or ideas that I could do that would help my (cockatiel) females to keep their beaks shorter. We have cuttle, some stone perches and other abrasive toys but 2 of the three females grow VERY long and thin upper beak points. The third female and the males ware them down but these two females don't till a good 4-6mm snap off, sometimes with a few drops of blood. (they dont seem to be broody, no nest making or other related behaviour with the males or us when out but both, along with others, are moulting now) Thanks.
Thanks so much for watching, Christopher! 😊 It's unusual for a bird's beak to grow long if they have lots of things to wear them down on (assuming they're using them!) Occasionally this can be due to a dietary deficiency or genetic abnormality. It might be worth a vet check up just to see if there's anything that needs sorting out, and usually I would recommend that a bird should go to a vet for a beak trim if this is a consistent problem! Good luck!
@@BirdNerdSophie Thank you for quick reply, also read the same on a link you left and I had not clicked on yet. One of our local vets is into Exotic animals (inc birds) and will do a trim if required. I think these two just don't do enough sharpening, even with others to show them how. Thanks again. Have mentioned this tube to others I know of who also have birds most have replied your videos are very informative, well presented and to the point, a perfect combination. Well done.
@@christopherperry8693 That's great that you have found an avian vet who can do beak trims! Also thank you so much for sharing my channel - I really appreciate it!
I’m a little late on this, but this was very helpful because my teil is having his first molt, he was clipped before I got him, he broke all his tail feathers, and a lot of feathers are kinda damaged. He is just loving scratches, and he is getting aggressive lately. But very helpful thank you😁
Love watching yours and David's video's find some useful information on them vet's say it's bored northern parrots say it would be beneficial to give one dose of calcium/D3
Thanks for watching 😊 Feathers can sometimes take a while to grow back in. Sometimes to do with diet, other times genetics! But if they never grow back then the feather follicle might be damaged.
Another reason a cockatiel can be balding on the back of their head is over breeding. Humans like certain colors, certain colors sell for much more. You can only get certain colors by breeding certain colors, which always means sons with mothers, or daughters with fathers. Not sure if this happens with other parrot species, but I was looking around online about this. Which is the only reason I know of it. I don't remember what it is called exactly. There is just a chance your bird inherited it. Also if your parent has it, there is a huge chance it will happen in their chicks. I guess this is more common over in India where parrot breeding at home is very common. So inbreeding for certain colors is as well. Buddy had horrible looking feathers when I got him. It is amazing how a proper diet and no more stress can change the appearance of your bird! Fun fact, Blue Jays molt their entire heads from the neck up once a year. (every single feather at once) I have seen it, have pictures of it. It looks so wrong!!!! I thought they were having some infection or paracites issues. Then I looked it up lol. Learned something new, doesn't seem to weird to me now. I like to give my birds a tiny bit of hard boiled egg (cooled) once a week for extra proteins. Shells included for bonus calcium. 2 water fountains and an eco terrarium tend to keep my room nice a humid. The eco terrarium attracts all the mold into the soil and plants. The springtails and isopods eat molds and bacterias. So it works pretty well. Also give my birds a good spray down once a week.
Yes most lutinos have a bald patch at the back of their heads but to my knowledge that sort of characteristic is only sen in cockatiels! That’s very interesting about the blue jays! Have you ever heard of eclipse plumage in ducks? That’s very interesting too! I think I might get the flock one of those fountains and see what they think! Olive has a bath in her water bowl yesterday- I refilled it twice and she just kept going. 😂
I heard that dried cuttlefish can be used as a source of calcium for birds, would you ever reccomend using cuttlefish that was found on the beach and treated with boiling water? Awesome video by the way, thank you for sharing!
Thanks so much for watching! Absolutely! Boil the cuttlefish and leave to air dry - I wish I lived close enough to a clean beach to get my own cuttlefish!
Is this a good recipe for chop: 1/2 a cup of Spinach 1/4 a cup of kale Half a carrot 1/4 cup of corn Buck wheat Quinoa Peas Wild rice Sprouted seeds Parsley coriander Flax seeds And 1 tsp of seeds (this is for my 2 budgies. I don't but the seeds into the chop BTW 😁)
Hi Sophie! Great video as always :) I just wondered about feathers that haven't moulted? Is that a worry? My quaker is just over a year old now and going into her 2nd spring and I just realised that last moulting season she didn't shed the clipped flight feathers that she had. I was hoping she would because I think she needs that confidence from being able to fly, but I don't know how to help her and everything google turns up seems to be about plucking rather than stubborn feathers that won't leave hahaha
@@BirdNerdSophie huh, the more you know, I assumed they slowly moved through all of them every moulting season, like a double coated dog 😂 Thanks Sophie, fingers crossed this is the season they go!
I recently bought a cage for a cockatiel I’m gonna buy their cage is really good but I just wanna be sure if the setup is ok too. Is there anyway I can show you my cage. Thank You. I want my cockatiel to have a really good bond with me what should I do for that
Hi, i feed my birds seeds and some pellets inside them. plus i give veggies every day such as brocoli, carrot, peper, cauliflower, spinach. What can i do to improve their diet?

How do you go about feeding eggshells and how much?
