      I flew air canada for the first time a few months ago on their route from London to Ottawa on a fairly dated 767, and although the IFE wasn’t the most up-to-scratch system ever, the seats were wayyyy comfier than a lot of modern planes

      I would say that Garuda Indonesia's 737s, 777s, and A330s have the best of both worlds. They have the old, comfier design of seats with the modern amenities like personal IFE screens.

    I have been on American Airlines Boeing 767 once from Amsterdam to Philadelphia. Sure the cabin is outdated but that didn’t matter to me because the flight was only around eight hours and the free inflight Wi-Fi and the amount of Content provided on AA’s Entertainment-App is also great! The food: Starting with the main course. I went for the same pasta with tomato sauce as seen in the video. It was decent. Have seen worse…! The mid flight ice cream was definitely a highlight! The pre landing snack (in my case some kind of Pizza flipped together) and there were snacks and drinks available in the back galley. Also the crew on my flight was very very friendly. Probably the nicest and most wholesome crew I have ever had on any flight yet! They were very friendly and open for a little chitchat with an aviation enthusiast like me! All in all I was very surprised with my experience especially with American Airlines having such a bad reputation! I hope I could help and have a nice day!

China Eastern flew their A340-600s on the JFK-PVG route (15 hours) without IFE as recently as late 2014. I even flew that route in 2010 and it remains my longest ever non-stop flight to this day.

    I'd been on an AA trans-Atlantic with these 767's twice a few years ago (BCN-JFK and MXP-JFK) but they had the old style fabric seats, not leatherette, so your flight felt a little bit more modern than mine LOL! I remember those yellowing, sharp, angular overhead bins...well, basically yellowing interior panels overall... remind me of those old IBM desktop computers. Still, would've have been funny to see a sign at the gate or at the door that says "We don't have personal screens here - talk to each other. Pretend it's 1999." But the fact that despite their age, these birds still fly long-haul like champs is pretty impressive. - Red

    Nine hours in an economy seat wouldn't be much fun even with IFE, but some sort of entertainment would help. Wifi is a plus, but I didn't see outlets to power devices, which would be vital. The components of the dinner looked fine, though pasta-and-sauce is the cheapest type of entree and hard to screw up, and the snack-in-a-box was all I could expect. If the price was right, I wouldn't complain about this flight, but I wouldn't look forward to it, either. I appreciate these reports on a variety of airlines and planes so that we know what to expect - or not to expect.

    I know this is an older video, because of the Corona Virus situation, and the 767's of American are now gone forever. BUT, they did give Business Class passengers tablets to watch a selection of movies on, and they also streamed movies via wifi in economy on your own device. So not quite that bad. Actually, American's international service is pretty good both in J and Y; certainly competitive with the other guys, and a heck of a lot nicer than their domestic service in North America!

    Hey Sir David:
    Did you know, that Philippine Airlines’ routes from Middle East to Manila are mostly 90s built A330s, and those suckers don’t even have IFE, and the flight takes 9 Hours. As in no screens whatsoever installed in the A330s. I’m not joking, I’m serious. But you do have to download an app from Google Play, Philippine Airlines’ app which is basically like an IFE, but movies are quite limited. The seats are mediocre, and anxiety is always there. And I’m a Fil. kid, and I rode one of those planes going to the Phil.

    I'm flying to Amsterdam in July on AA, I usually fly United, but AA was cheaper. I didn't know AA doesn't have an IFE. I will be traveling with my 11 year old daughter so I'm glad it's an overnight flight so I won't have to worry too much about an IFE. We are taking KLM on our return back (not an overnight flight). For future reference I will make sure not to fly AA for long flights if I'm with my daughter.

      AA has IFE on most of their long-haul planes. It's only the 767's that don't because they're old and being phased out.

    In 2015 I flew United’s 747 from San Francisco to Hong Kong for 14 HOURS with no IFE and no WiFi. Which basically meant you couldn’t even stream to your own device, browse the internet even by paying, and stay entertained. I survived (Barely).

    It isn’t actually that bad because they complement with good internet and good food so it’s actually better if you have an iPad because you can see way more videos on TH-cam and movies on Netflix than on some planes that don’t WiFi but have IFE and you can listen to music

    United does without in-flight entertainment on flights from Chicago, New Jersey, Washington DC to Hawaii. Longer flights (duration and distance) than many trans-Atlantic flights.

    Everyone complains about not having IFE on a flight, but if the flight has BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) tech, where you can stream movies/tv/etc on your IPAD or computer or phone, then what's the issue? I've been on many airlines with IFE and when I plug MY headset or even airline provided headsets, sometimes that jack on the device is damaged and I'm listening to a movie with one ear bud working, while trying to hold the plug in the right spot... Point being, BYOD is actually preferred in my opinion. Plus, everytime the FA's or the pilots interrupt with an announcement, your personal device won't pause for however long they decide to speak.

    They must have fed you pretty good on that flight...the barbecue bourbon beef pies looked tempting! One flight I would have taken a portable DVD player on. It would be interesting to watch "M*A*S*H" at FL 340 (34,000 feet).

  • @nutellafoxvideos7350
    @nutellafoxvideos7350 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I guess technically you do have IFE with the music channels and movies playing on the overhead screens. I remember when I was 11 taking a flight like this on delta in 2012 and it was just the overhead movies and such.

    In earlier decades of aviation, most aircraft did not have inflight entertainment on long haul flights, and American never refurbished their old 767s to meet up with modern aviation standards. They probably made a good decision removing them from the fleet.

  • @RK831
    @RK831 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    There was indeed in-flight entertainment. You simply had no choice in which movie to watch; just plug in your earphones and watch the movie that was up in the overhead screens. This was an airline flight from 20 years ago.
    I wouldn't complain about lack of IFE. I would rather take a flight without IFE if that flight arrives on time along with my luggage. What's the point of having superb IFE if you miss your connecting flight or your luggage does not make it?

  • @pvsantos999
    @pvsantos999 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The 767 is one of the best built planes ever, sturdy, very reliable, and staffed by real pilots, not joy stick operators. Forget about IFEs. Those things are not needed. They should rip them off of planes that have them. You had wifi and per your own admission it worked well for downloads. That's all you need. I don't want any darn screens in front of me. I flew the American 767 from Philly to Lisbon and back and loved it, felt very good in it. I hoped that they never retire the 767, and the "sportier" 757. What is the alternative? Airbuses where pilots are not real pilots, or 787s with windshield always cracking?
