There are many Groundhog Day type movies, they have verious explanations, this one is explained in the sequel which is more sci fi. The original Groundhog Day doesnt bother with an explanation, Bill Murray simply has to become a better man, have a perfect day and fall in love. I love Edge of Tommorrow, it is probably one of the best Tom Cruise films.

Fun Fact: Director Christopher Landon tested wearing the option of a baby mask for the killer in the office and scared a worker. Iconic Mask Fact: The Bayfield University Baby killer costume was designed by Tony Gardner, who also designed the Ghostface mask, the horror icon of the Scream films and which is a reworked version of the Father's Death Halloween costume. Sequel Bait Fact: When asked the cause of the time loop, Christopher Landon says there is a definite reason for it, and if the viewers look closely at the film, there are easter eggs pointing to the cause and one is really big, but he didn't clarify what he meant by that. He did add a definitive cause in the sequel. Actually Nude Fact: Even though they only filmed and show her face and bare back in the movie, Jessica Rothe said in a 2017 interview that she decided to go totally nude for the scene where Tree Gelbman walks around campus naked in order to feel the same rush as her character. She called it a very "liberating" moment. There were steps taken to make sure no actual nudes of Jessica Rothe got out.

I think the explination here is the magic of her birthday causing her to relive the day and trying to teach her a lesson on how to be a better person but also find herself a better life as well. Good job figuring it out I didn't see it coming until the end. It's explianed in the second one as well but it's more of a sci-fi explination then the supernatural side of things.
They actually completely changed the ending after the focus group screenings. The original version had the professor's wife killing Tree after she breaks the loop, and it's ambiguous whether this will start a new one. The audiences hated that apparently all her character growth was for nothing, so that part was chopped out and replaced by the scene with Carter.
Throughout Tree’s life-or-death struggle for survival, she matures, and has a more brighter and positive view of life, and especially her own livelihood too. The concept that’s not just about deja vu (Groundhog Day - overall, the whole time loop concept) but also a full, consistent redemption arc through her having to become a fearless survivor and fighter to officially defeat Babyface, along with improved intelligence, determination, gaining the will to live, and striving for forgiveness in all her heart and soul (this is such a tremendous journey of a coming-of-age character development), and in this context, Tree transformed from a depressing and arrogant female to someone with a majority of the positive human qualities, such as her being someone who became wholehearted and cultivated and instilled the humanity, colourfulness, good-nature and emotions within her that was blocked out and she was devoid of before the life-changing event. For movies, this premise is my all-time personally greatest concept ever thought of, and I cherish it - which is why this movie is in my top 10 greatest movies of all time, if not top 5! This had led her to becoming someone undeniably, without a doubt, with all redeeming attributes, worthy of love, trust, honour, life, respect, community, etc. Not only does she have a changed outlook on life and wants to openly and freely live her life to the fullest with the people she really truly cares about, she is also very knowledgeable about the arts of battle as she has been in 1 supposedly endless cycle of it herself with a nightmare. If I can take 2 life lessons away from the 2017 movie, not the 2019 one (which kind of bored me out despite it being action-packed just like the first movie was, because Tree had already conquered the darkness that had been consuming her mentality and sympathy and/or empathy by the end of the 2017 movie (and now she looks forward to hanging out with people and sharing her adventurous life with them), there wasn’t much to look forward to afterwards), it would be that people should learn from their failures and always move forward and never give up, fall down or turn back (and do this to become a better version of yourself so that your fearful past will not catch up to you), and that you are all stronger than you believe yourselves to be - that you can certainly overcome your fears and demons, even create a sustainably successful future, with enough determination and passion, and by striving for victory and channeling in your inner warrior spirit. It’s time to take back your right to live your own life by breaking your shackles, and fight to become unstoppable champions - overcome and conquer the darkness, and fill up that dark, empty void, within you!

Even if the sequel wasn’t a thing just accept the movie premise for what it is. Not going to lie her constantly saying she was confused because she didn’t know why she kept reliving the same day was annoying. If they just wanted to make a movie about someone reliving the same day just take it for what it is.
The same director's film Freaky has been confirmed to take place in the same world as this one, and he's now trying to make a new film that will cross the characters over.

So, when I first saw trailers for this movie I was NOT interested in it… not in the LEAST. I just thought, “Groundhogs Day as a horror film? Meh.” and had 0 intentions of watching it. Now, I have 0 recollection as to why I did ended up seeing but BOY am I glad that I did as it is RIGHT up my alley!! It’s just sooo much damn fun! While, yes, it is basically just “Groundhog’s Day as a horror film.” like I suspected, they added fun, new, INTERESTING elements to it as well. And while the entire case does a HELLA good job, Jessica Rothe is fucking BRILLIANT as tree and takes what very easily could’ve been a _”good”_ movie and turns it into a *”FUCKING AWESOME”* one!!! Now I’m just hoping that you guys are gonna react to the second one, Happy Death Day 2U, next as it’s also a SUPER good time!! 😊
Ok i love this movie, is different, it's funny, ironic and is cool. Not one of my favorites horror movies, but definitely a good one to watch (especially if you want to have fun and not watch a serious scaring movie). Even if i have to admid that do the same day, 100 times, in the same way and die again and again and again is a little bit anxious. 😂 Btw have one of my fav songs (confident by Demi Lovato).
The reason the day kept repeating is explained in the sequel. The Asian friend is working on a science experiment that messes with time and that’s not a spoiler really, it’s just the surface of the explanation. Def watch the sequel, it’s great!

Yeah, without the happy ending i would have watched this once and remembered it. But never watched it again.
The best part in happy death day was when tree was walking around naked not caring at all which still makes me and my sister laugh the most 😂
