Back when I was brand new to RPGs, Savage Coast somehow was the first module I owned. I found the various details (like the ship the Premise) to be just as confusing as you describe here. However, in the years that followed when I ran it again it was more a Belgium in the Congo/Heart of Darkness vibe in the peninsula. I learned from the first go around that I needed to add more so I did. The party’s mission centered in the jungle as the grasslands were all settlements and outposts. The peninsula was the focus of the gold rush and that helped. It was full colonial warfare mixed with Apocalypse Now.
"Too much is always better than not enough" Me, still waiting for more than 1 setting book per setting: yup... You called it in an old video, the 3e FR book really is the gold standard. Paizo understood that with the PF1e Inner Sea book.
Hey thanks for the headsup on this Module. Sounds pretty painful, not alot of meat on its bones for a young DM to work with. I do like the suggestion of having camps of different countries their though, might be fun for a group of adventurers who wanna carve themselves a piece of the pie.
"Sixty angry chickens are a danger to a mid-level character." When the eleven minute review has more memorable elements than the module you know you done goofed. Three authors, each of whom contributed 0-1 ideas, and TSR had the temerity to charge real world money for it!
@@johnbalk6091 generally word of a gold rush gets around quick. As far as the locals there's pretty much no background on them in the module at all they are just people living there. There's no word on their culture, their ethnicity, their numbers nothing.
@@johnbalk6091 it's mentioned once. In the plot hooks. And when you get to the people that are panning for gold it's three of them. And that's all that's ever mentioned. This module is empty
This module needs to be re-written in 2 versions - Heart of Darkness and joining the locals and defeating the imperial colonies. The reverse if Keep on the Borderlands - this time you're fighting off the invaders rather than being the ones doing the looting.
Props for referencing "UHF," possibly the most underrated movie in human history.

10:19 How would Thyatis find out about the gold? Also, who are the locals?

@@Mr_Welch Just out of curiosity, how is there a gold rush in the plains? Is that explained, or did you mention it?

I know the art was reused in 2nd ed. for the Fighter's Screen.

Ah, yes. Colorado. The most coastiest part of the Savage Coast.
Mountains and continuity errors how more Mystara can it be?
@@Mr_Welch You have me there.
