I recently got back into fountain pens after not using them since 2017. I used to watch these videos all the time and I’m glad to see you guys are just as active as you were then!

blunt syringes are a must in my opinion, especially at how affordable they are.

I recently found a hack for filling my twsbi eco from a sample bottle. I pulled the nib out of my twsbi to clean it and then realized that the little hole for the feed is perfect for fitting a blunt end syringe. I used to to slowing squirt ink into the feed, and then twist the piston... chaos I know. Now I will be just pulling out the nib squirting it right into to the barrel and then sticking the nib back in. DONE!

This was amazing, I was amazed by the TWSBI and Pineider tools. By the way, Rohrer & Klingner also offers a plastic inner ink well that fits in their bottles. They sell here 🇩🇪 as a set of 3 for 6€ and it is great at preventing inky fingers. Thanks for the video, super useful.

May I add the ink bottle of Akkerman? It’s an old fashioned bottle for sure, but it still works so very well for filling all those beautiful fountain pens

Thank you for this. I started watching some of your videos from 10+ years ago, what a difference a decade makes. Thank you for providing a valuable education and for making luxurious pens available.

I worked out when i started buying in bottles (before discovering goulet!) that i could use the syringes from my printer cartridge kit to fill pen cartridges. Been doing that for years!!
The snorkel looks fabulous for different brands. And i absolutely love, love, love my twsbi vac filler bottle. I did not have the coordination needed to fill it safely from the bottle!! Best investment.

I have had the Pineider ink well for a few years and carry it with me everywhere. It holds a decent amount of ink and makes refilling my Lamy 2000 easy. And it is always fun to watch people around you wondering what you are doing! 😀

To keep my bottled ink in the best shape without contamination, I use my Ink Miser for the pen fill, and an ink sample vial for the remainder ink for future use.

True! I already had to calm down a few people when I asked to give me the syringe. They already thought I wanted use it in “a different way”.

I have always HATED filling my pens from a bottle because I can't see what I'm doing very well with those beautiful bottles and my hand shakes so I make a mess of the nibs. I like that little ink Shot because it looks like it'll help me hold my hand steady and I don't have to dip the entire nib into the bottle. Definitely going to give that a try! Thanks Brian!☺

Older Sailor bottles also have inserts ~2015is and earlier. Pineider snorkel is interesting, definitely will get one. Visconti Travelling Inkwell is absolutely convenient daily traveller, will try out Pineider ones as well.

I have had the Visconti Traveling Ink Pot for at least 20 years. I use it to fill almost all of my pens, except my Krone Architectus, that has a grip the doesn't fit. Great product.

I've had mine for about 30 years. The rubber on its eyedropper has long since become brittle, but I found a replacement easily. It was a regular item in my commute back in the day, and I continue to use it at home.

I think the Twsbi Pipe is a must have for all 580 owners. Makes filling so much less messy.
And there's also the Erka-Rapid that fits a few Rohrer and Klingner bottles and some other brands' bottles as well. Works great.

I would love to see a dedicated video for the TWSBI pipe. I've used mine twice and made a giant mess each time. There has to be something I'm missing, and maybe others are too?

Thanks for this video. I have cerebral palsy so my coordination isn’t great. I’ve always used cartridges up till now but I was recently given a bottle of ink as a gift with purchase. Rather than waste it or give it away I’d rather give some of these tools a go 😊

Given its tall shape, the Vac20a has turned out to be great for cleaning pens. Since it has a cap it also allows me to keep a good amount of distilled water (I have pretty hard tap water) around for cleaning converters and a reservoir to fill up a bulb syringe.

Hmm looks like I will need to add a couple items to my wish list when I get a chance. :P Some of the later tools look really interesting. I can't wait to see if there will be new videos, especially with the TWSBI pipe and the snorkel one. The TWSBI inkwells look interesting too... maybe it is time to add a vac TWSBI to my collection, since all the ones I have are ecos.

RE: Pilot Namiki 60 ml ink bottle - I have had trouble filling my Twisbi Eco in this bottle. I didn't know, because you can't see it, that it has a filling insert in it like you mentioned. When it got down to half full I was having trouble filling my pen but I saw it had some kind of insert so I tried inverting and flipping the bottle back upright to fill the insert but it's still not deep enough to fill my pen and the pen sucks up air. I've been looking all over the internet to find a picture of an empty clean bottle so I could see what it looked like and maybe figure out why it wasn't working in my bottle but found nothing. I was wondering why you did not show what those bottles looked like empty?

if your filling a cartridge converter pen and end up not getting all the air bubbles out could that lead to flow problems?

  • @malsbals

Totally unrelated question, but you mentioned the Emperor pen in rabbit somewhat recently. I have been noticing rabbit things since my father died a few months ago (he was born and died in the year of the rabbit). Anyway, I was wondering when people generally find out about these limited edition pens (before they are on the market) and how long could one expect to find them in stores? I wish I could buy this pen, but realistically, I need to save for a bit for an investment like this. Thank you for all your informative videos.

...and those of us who have just accepted that we need to use syringes to fill our converters, but NOT to the point that we remember to depress the syringe BEFORE putting it in the bottle. (I wish I were making that up, but I'm the one who ended up looking like I'd poured ink straight onto my hands while filling a new pen yesterday...on the plus side, Ferris Wheel's Tanzanite Sky looks almost as good on your hands as it does on paper.)

Should I be concerned that I've only been into fountain pens for 8 months, and was aware of all of these products?
Or should we just credit it to the education that GPC puts out here on youtube?
