Some are just catchy little stories, I'll grant that, but some songs like "Take Me Home", "Another Day in Paradise", "Do You Remember?"...the ones like those are extremely deep and beautiful, even if they are sad and troubled at the core. That, to me, was just great songwriting. I miss that out of today's top artist. Few of them have any real value in the music they release. Just pretty faces with no talent and even less soul.
Heard this song at a restaurant, quickly bought memories back when my grandma used to play good music in the morning before I went off to elementary school back in 1989
After listening to this song over and over again last night, it struck me. Phil subconsciously wrote "Don't Lose My Number" as a prequel to "Ode to Billy Joe". Phil claims he doesn't even know the meaning of this song himself, but the lyrics pan out perfectly. Brilliant!!
KittyLife There's a new sneaky peek on Dan's Insta. It makes me so happy that NSP is doing such fucking classics that everyone loves. I had my mom listen to their Michael Jackson cover and she loved it.
Man, I was a latchkey kid playing my parents records. This was one of dad's records bought as a gift from my mom in 1985 when they we're newly Weds. I'm so sorry for your loss.
This song suddenly popped up in my head. I thought I would look for it on here and here it is. I love this song. It came out when I was a kid! Great Memories!
Phil Collins gets ridiculed a lot but I think people misunderstand the fact that many of his songs are not meant to be taken seriously. This song is a prime example. Look at the video for it as proof. And it's a good song.
Por fin encontré la canción, la buscaba porque la escuche en un video casero mientras mi papá me cargaba y esta canción sonaba de fondo :') los años maravillosos
Happy Birthday Phil Collins! Been a blast enjoying your music, and what an inspiration you are with your music and Genesis. Wishing you all the best and to everyone a great year! Honestly, what a legacy you have, Inspiring many, like me since childhood. Have a great birthday legend! 🎉👑
Phil Collins has a talent for writing songs about serious topics in an upbeat and inspirational manner. In the song he sings about trying to find his lover. Yet it makes me feel happy. I love to hear this while I'm driving (safely of course).
TRUTH🇺🇲 Don't give up when you know that you're right, because there's always one who knows that you're right about everything that you say and do... God bless Philadelphia and Minnesota daily🙌🏾🦅🙋🏾♀️
It reminds me of a boy that ran away and Phil is trying to keep in touch with him, so he wrote this song about him. thats my best guess. It also reminds me of someone who ran away and him knowing about it and he is telling him "Dont forget about me, dont forget." those are my two guesses. they are kind of similar
I always figured that it was a shooting and Billy might have did it but he had a good reason to like he was being abused or it's set in a dystopian police state and Billy killed in self defense (Hence "they didn't know him and didn't understand/They never asked him why") and the Speaker is being interrogated at first explaining what he saw ("Then all I could see was him running down the street...") Since he knows the real reason and is a friend of Billy's, he's covering for him. Then he is talking to Billy maybe either mentally or he is helping him run off and telling him that the police are after him and he needs to leave town. ("You'd better run for your life.")
This song has ALWAYS reminded me of the movie The Legend Of Billy Jean, based on a true story. Very classic 80's movie/song still love it to this day! (2018)
Great artist, great song!! Whenever I listen to it, I start dancing.. :) I just noticed that, since I happened to re-watch "The Breakfast Club" few days ago, this song has lots of similarities with "Fire in the twilight" in the movie... Don't you think so too?!
haha no problem. and the reason its hard to find is mostly because it is blocked in some place because i guess Phil Collins hasn't given full rights to let people have it on youtube or something. but i am glad you liked it. it took me a while, but I really enjoyed making it
Well as a child (and my native language isn't English) i thought he sang: baby baby don't you lose my number.. cz you're now everywhere and I can't find you 🙈 i still sing it that way haha
Am I the only person that knows Peter Gabriel is singing backing vocals? There's another great artist, kids, Peter Gabriel. The two voices of Genesis! And both had very successful solo careers. Just great songwriters. I miss this kind of talent. These were top stars back in the day. Mostly wrote their own songs, played real instruments... That's hard to find with the so-called "Top Artist" of today. Most of the Billboard and Top 40 artist today don't even write their own lyrics, much less the music. Today, almost every sound is made on computers and a bunch of "singers" use Auto-Tune. I'm proud to say I grew up hearing the best, whether it came out before I was born (Thanks to my older sister and brother) or during my life time, and I'm proud of all the artist out there that do it themselves today, even though a lot of the ones with true talent get pushed by the wayside for some pop star that only has looks. What was classic then and what is classic now needs to be remembered, listened to, and forever celebrated. That's why I love the newer guys and gals who do covers of classics faithfully. It shows they had roots and influence to become great while exposing a younger generation to real music that came from the heart. Lots of love to the greats, thanks for the music and the feelings it gives us, and to the legends that we have lost over the years...well, we keep part of them alive every time we hear them on the radio, play them on our devices, sing them in the shower, or hum them throughout our day. Let's pass them down through the generations, for that is true immortality. Sorry about that. I guess I'm just passionate about true, soul exposing music. But yeah, I've loved this song since I first heard it on MTV (when they actually played music videos) and still own the record on Vinyl lol
According to what I was able to look up, Pete doesn't do the backing vocals on this particular song. But, he sings on the last track of the album "Take Me Home"
#LYRXLUVR🎛️ #MyRetroThrowbackLife 🎶 #Epic tune off Phil Collins 3rd solo album "No Jacket Required." It peaked at No. 4 in the U.S. in September 1985.👏👏👏👏👏
Does anyone else love that Phil writes random songs about nothing that are super catchy and awesome, YEH 😀
And "Inside Out?"
They are never written 'random'!!
s s s s s uudio!!!
It is not about nothing, getting lost intentionally
Classic! Blessed to have been living the good life in the 80's!
Phil Collins owned the 80s!
+siamsa69 Michael Jackson did!
+Jaskaran Gill yes you're right!!! But you gotta admit, a middle aged, balding Englishman didn't do too shabby, right?
+Jaskaran Gill phil collins released 8 albums in the 80s..
thedocak 7 Agreed!
Jaskaran Gill there couldn't be a more 80s oriented artist than Phil Collins.. that man single-handedly pioneered some of the madness of the 80s. :]
Heard this song at a restaurant, quickly bought memories back when my grandma used to play good music in the morning before I went off to elementary school back in 1989
2018 and this song still rocks! Introduced my 3 year old and 2 year old to this a couple of months back and they adore it! ❤
After listening to this song over and over again last night, it struck me. Phil subconsciously wrote "Don't Lose My Number" as a prequel to "Ode to Billy Joe". Phil claims he doesn't even know the meaning of this song himself, but the lyrics pan out perfectly. Brilliant!!
This is my favorite Phil Collins song, and I can't wait for the NSP cover to come out
William Rowe I know! I was so excited when I found out :D Dan has a sneak peak of the song on his Instagram somewhere!
KittyLife There's a new sneaky peek on Dan's Insta. It makes me so happy that NSP is doing such fucking classics that everyone loves. I had my mom listen to their Michael Jackson cover and she loved it.
KittyLife yas
Wish granted
KittyLife I didn’t know they did a cover?! Hell yeah!
These guy's were some of the best the 80s had to offer.
Phil Collins and Huey Lewis always reminds me of my dad. R.I.P. Dad this one's for you
Candice Bering Hmmmm Phil Collins, and Huey Lewis, huh....... Was your dad Patrick Bateman from American Psycho?
^Pretty close :-)
sorry for your lost
Man, I was a latchkey kid playing my parents records. This was one of dad's records bought as a gift from my mom in 1985 when they we're newly Weds. I'm so sorry for your loss.
I hear you. I just lost my daddy, and he loved Phil Collins.
And it's a good song.
his songs were real and had feelings especially all the songs he made during his divorce, like I don't care anymore! she felt that
What an amazing artist . Thank you Phil for all the amazing music and songs.
Por fin encontré la canción, la buscaba porque la escuche en un video casero mientras mi papá me cargaba y esta canción sonaba de fondo :') los años maravillosos

brings back memories of listening to cassettes in the summer in my 94 miata, all the stereo had and I had a bunch given to me, love this stuff.
Happy Birthday Phil Collins! Been a blast enjoying your music, and what an inspiration you are with your music and Genesis. Wishing you all the best and to everyone a great year! Honestly, what a legacy you have, Inspiring many, like me since childhood. Have a great birthday legend! 🎉👑
Phil Collins is a fantastic and amazing musician who has incredible talent in music
Phil Collins has a talent for writing songs about serious topics in an upbeat and inspirational manner. In the song he sings about trying to find his lover. Yet it makes me feel happy. I love to hear this while I'm driving (safely of course).

WHAT A MEMORIES. ''I love the 80's''.

Think this song is about billy joel
I thought it was something who committed a crime and ran away cause maybe they were innocent or scared. At first I thought it was about stalking?
I always figured that it was a shooting and Billy might have did it but he had a good reason to like he was being abused or it's set in a dystopian police state and Billy killed in self defense (Hence "they didn't know him and didn't understand/They never asked him why") and the Speaker is being interrogated at first explaining what he saw ("Then all I could see was him running down the street...")
