Yes I miss when players actually came off as human being and not robotic caricatures that are trying so hard to have a personality that it just comes off as cringe. I miss the real and relaxed DRs that were more genuine
I agree. The more natural sessions left more room for game play and let people like Kaysar become the fan favorite that he is today. Viewers WANT to see the true intention and game play in the DR because they can't always see it on the feeds. But I feel like the feeds now more genuinley express game play than the DR's.
This is why I'm loving bb22 right now. Because of the more mature cast the diary room sessions are more calm and seem more authentic. They're not as loud and annoying and it's refreshing. It's really nice.
@@um773 We'll see how long that lasts. I miss when Arnold Shapiro was in charge. Allison Grodner made a lot of cheesy, unfair changes imo. That being said, AG PLEASE GIVE JANELLE AND KAYSAR A COUP D'ETAT , DIAMOND VETO, ETC lmao

Big Brother 1 is like those pages at the beginning of a book that are in front of page 1 with little Roman numerals rather than page numbers. The fact I watched it when it aired 20 years ago makes me feel so old.
I watched the first episode of BB1 then, for whatever reason, didn't watch the show again until years later. I don't even remember why I didn't follow through.
BB10 was incredible. Renny is a legend. I really miss the natural confessionals. I really appreciate that they seem more real this season. Big Brother wouldn't have to feed people confessionals if the casting was better. The cast being generally older this season also helps to make it feel more authentic imo
I used to love the DR confessionals. BB12 blessed us with Britney, but it’s like they tried so hard to reproduce that kind of energy that we’ve been stuck with the same run-of-the-mill garbage year after year. They’re so repetitive, unnatural, cringey, scripted, and LOUD. I hate DR bits now. Pretty much have rolled my eyes at least twice per episode over the last several years because of how annoying and dumbed down they are. I really hope BB22 remedies this.
The tone of All Stars 2 feels different from recent seasons. Maybe it's because the cast is older and experienced, maybe it's an intentional decision to match the overall tone in America in 2020, but it feels more serious overall. House guests don't seem so over-the-top in the DR. The past few years, it felt like a producer was telling them to get more and more animated all the time. The aesthetics of the house even seem to match the tone -- the house feels more natural with muted colors, less like an over-saturated cartoon. I think also because we have returning players, we don't have the annual handful of house guests who are mugging for the camera and trying to get famous that way instead of trying to win the game.
I think we are totally in a new era. Similar to bb15, cbs wants to try and rebrand the show after bb21 and the controversy and what better way to start then bringing back a bunch of old players to attract an audience. Hopefully this change is for the better because the modern rebrand starting with bb16 has made the game much more boring and lost a lot of what made big brother so interesting
Can we go back to the post classic era? Aka the best era of BB 8-14 the only trash season is 9. New era only 20 has truly been good imo. And classic era is solid throughout but not as good as post classic.
Tyler Ray totally. Bb20 was only good because the back and forth was very reminiscent of old school bb but that was only because of kaitlyn most of the time and once foutee self imploded the game started to be boring as level 6 dominated. I would argue 17 was also kind of decent but no other seasons are really good. But definitely that era is so good it has some of the best and arguably the best (bb10) seasons in my opinion. Hopefully we get back to that soon and less of the influencer showmance stuff

Hey, Peridiam, I was wondering if you could do a video like, “5 Worst Moves by Good ‘Big Brother’ Players,” or a video like, “5 Best Moves by Bad ‘Big Brother’ Players.”
This video pretty much sums up perfectly where I went from being obsessed with BB to not caring less about it. I grew up in the "classic" era of BB, starting from S2. The highlight for me was All-Stars (S7.) I watched S8-S10 with waning interest, and then S11 I maybe watched one or two episode of and I was already over it. I haven't watched an episode since then.
BB Canada actually does a really great job. They know when to throw a good twist in and make it up for grabs for anyone instead of “here take this and act shocked”
I’ve only watched until the point of Peridiam saying he thinks there are 4 eras, but based on that, here’s how I personally break them up in my own mind: 1st era- BB1 2nd era- BB2-BB7 3rd era- BB8- BB15 4th era- BB16- now. Then again, I did start watching BB during BB17 & went back and watched BB16 alongside it while it was airing, so that might just be a division based upon my own personal timeline, or even due to the switch to HD. Also another interesting factor is that BB fans consider Will, Dan, and Derrick to be the best players and they each come from different eras and have only played within one era of the show apiece.
well, 17 18 and 20 arent bad in my opinion. but arent amazing. BB19 and BB21 are fucking hell. BB15 was the racist season, BB16 was super boring and hated it. BB22 is meh right now, hope it picks up.
I 100% agree with the way you divided them! I was thinking earlier how it's tough to place where exactly bb15 falls in all of this because it's not exactly the post-classic era but definitely had a different feel than the current seasons. I can already feel a slight difference with how the houseguests of newer seasons are clashing with JaySer's "classic" game-play and I'm excited to see how the game's going to change going forward. Loved the analysis!
Im rewatching seasons right now and it really is jaring how much better old confessionals are to the new ones. One of them has people feel like..........people. Anger, sadness, humor, wittiness. You really get a feel for the people playing the game. Then you watch newer seasons and its just people reading some script, throwing out a cliche "we aint in iowa anymore hur dur hur". Its pretty incredible how much better it is. The old seasons are like reading a good book and the new ones are like reading a tweet from some dude with 50 followers.
The finale of BB18 marked the beginning of this "Soft" era which we are currently in. Worthy houseguests will probably never win again due to "butthurt" jury members. I remember CBS would influence Jury members to vote for who they think "has the played the best game", or "who deserved to win Big Brother". Now it's "who you want to win". As a superfan who was watched every season from it's conception, nothing really grinds my gears to see a bitter jury voting for the winner of "Big Baby" instead of crowning the winner of Big brother. I understand there was been some pretty bad jury's in the past, but nothing compares to this era. Paul has played back to back seasons of straight legendary dominance of physical and mental prowess getting robbed over floaters Nicole Franzel and Josh Martinez in Seasons 18 & 19. Making him the best player to never win BB. BB20 Kaycee beat out Tyler, a young legend in the making. Both had great comp wins, but Tyler's mental game was extraordinary similar to Pauls. Even Celebrity Big Brother's finales was pretty bad. Especially Ross who played the best game out of everyone. Dominated with his intelligence, and his impressive comp wins. Got beat out by "floater" marrisa. I just hope I'm not the only one who enjoyed watching the prime of Big Brother and enjoying the end result of finale 🤷.
The butthurt jury members were butthurt because they wanted to sit on their asses and let the Derrick's, Paul's and Tyler's do all the work for them while they thought they could float to a easy victory. Then got pissed off when the two people who did the most work were sitting at the final 2. In the old Big Brother you hardly seen a bitter jury because the majority of the players came on to play the game and maybe win. Not let someone else play the game for them.
Cody, just won and the jury wasn't bitter. Paul sucked he forgot about jury management. Josh didn't and stole it from Paul in the goodbye messages. As much as i disliked him; Josh deserved to win over Paul.
Definitely we need more diary room confessionals seen by the TV public, IMO. Those DR’s gave us a real look at what each HG is TRULY thinking. Luvvvvvvv it!
Such a great video. BB15 was supposed to be the new blueprint, but then they had to do a do-over for that with BB16 which is the *true* start of the modern era
watching this back is crazy because bb22 was definitely the end of the “modern” era and bb23 is the new era with the new casting director and better show editing
I would divide it like this 1) Trial-n-Error: BB1. 2) Classical Era: BB2-BB7(Ending with AllStars). 3) Middle Era: BB8-BB10. 4) Platinum Era: BB11-BB15. 5) Reset Era: BB16-BB18/OTT(Post Social Media Era). 6) Social Media Era: BB19-BB22 (Big Social Media influence)
Yeah, as I have said before. I feel like I would define the eras by camera and audio quality. Along with decorations. They have improved a lot since the beginning
Thank you for mentioning season 1. I started watching several years into the show, maybe around season 14, then went back and watched from the beginning. Wow! I couldn't believe what I saw on Season One. That cast was the absolute BEST of humanity. Society could certainly learn from them. Every season after, basically the WORST of humanity for entertainment purposes. Sad, but still watching.
You should do a video where you rank the seasons based on how the players that played in that season did in that season and all the other seasons they were on!!!
I remember watching majority of these big brother seasons with my mom and it’s nice to realize those good memories with mom are iconic seasons and great players. I remember seeing Ian and falling in love with him cause he was only a few years older 😂
An interesting video you should do is a top 5 interesting big brother players who we didn't get to see their full potential e.i cause of early eviction, emotion, strategy etc
“America’s Player was a new twist for Big Brother 8, that seeped it’s way into the season so profoundly it was like no other season before it” That’s one way of describing it. sure.
I definitely think the modern era was BB16-BB22. I feel like if there is an Allstars season, that that always has to be the final season of that era. Also I feel like BB15 was kinda the launch pad for new era but wasn’t actually the new era quite yet.
I think we would all love a vanilla season or like old school, PBJ sandwiches again, key wheel, food comps, no live voting so we don't even know exactly who's going, leas production for dr and so on
I feel like season 15 is in direct response to season 11 and 12 showmances. 15-22 we saw a huge drop off in the average age of each houseguest, more physically attractive houseguests, and more single houseguests. They took a buckshot approach to showmances to try and recapture the Jeff and Jordan/Brenchel lightning in a bottle. Mccranda, Jeremy and Candice, nick and Gina Marie, Aaron and David, Aaron and Judd, more maybe? Who even remembers and that was one season. There was an average of 3 showmances each season between 15-20, whereas less than a 1.5 average in seasons 8-14 including s9. Not to mention the dawn of the “thirsty houseguest” I.e. James creeping meg, Caleb creeping amber, Kaitlyn creeping Tyler, Brett, and Faysal. These duos define the course of a big brother season more than anything the way I see it.
See no wonder I’m so used to the gigantic twists and current gameplay..I literally started with the current era. My first season was season 15. Season 16 is my absolute favorite season.
You could do another unintentionally funny moments and you could include the part when Eric was talking crap about Janelle and Janelle entered the back yard to host the veto competition. 😂😂😂
They honestly need to stop giving contestants in sequester seasons to watch with arbitrary rules. Or at least give them clip packages like, you don't have to play the way the bullies in season XX demanded everyone play by. I think Janelle's question to Bayleigh about why would you give the HOH what they want perfectly encapsulates this. It doesn't make any sense that you would do that, but the audience and players have just accepted it as an unspoken rule for the sake of it. We aren't getting players playing new games anymore and the twists are just a band-aid for that.
1000% agree. The best part about early BB was the casting. Everybody had a different approach. Nobody followed a blueprint. Now it's, "hot buff males form mega-alliance with sexy clout-chasing girls, win physical comps, pick off the dorky outsiders, boring winner". I'd like to see production bring back simple competitions that force players to wheel and deal, like the glass box challenge, and actually cast intelligent people who have an interest in the strategical aspect. The closest we've gotten in the past 4 seasons is Tyler and (unfortunately) Paul.
maybe not as many black people auditioned? people seem to forget that not EVERYTHING is racially motivated. also, white occupies much more of america than black people.
Ari McComsey it’s a known fact that not many game shows have many black people on them and IF they do have black people, it’s 1 or 2. i’m sure plenty of black people have auditioned for big brother but we never see a majority.
The one good thing that I've noticed in just three episodes of BB22 is that the DR sessions felt a lot more genuine. There's still a lot of overly produced stuff when it comes to competitions but there wasn't a ton of forced shouting which was a nice change of pace.
I started with season 17 because my friends watched it and I know quite a bit about BB16 bc my friends and my mom. This is interesting as I before I really only knew about the early seasons because of my mom who watched it from the beginning and stopped around 16 and would only really flick and didn't watch the season in its entirety. Although she did like the winner of BB16. Plus with this new all star season I knew about have the cast and had to ask her about the rest as they were on the early seasons. Overall I'm interested to see where the show will go from this point. I'm supposed a season even started this year bc of corona.
So basically every time Janelle comes back she signals the end of an era
She's like the Silver Surfer. Herald of the eater of worlds.

I think Kaycee deserved to win tbh, but I agree about Paul getting robbed for 2 years
The butthurt jury members were butthurt because they wanted to sit on their asses and let the Derrick's, Paul's and Tyler's do all the work for them while they thought they could float to a easy victory.
@@-007-2 imagine playing a top 3 performance and a flawless season and getting 2nd place lmaooo
Such an insightful video. I love a well thought out retrospective!
The new era will be defined by Kaysar who will return every season until he makes it to Jury😂
8:16 why is aaryn’s name and face on the board twice
Brendon Keen Aaryn replaced Amanda LOL
Definitely we need more diary room confessionals seen by the TV public, IMO. Those DR’s gave us a real look at what each HG is TRULY thinking.
Luvvvvvvv it!
I’m decently early! Yay! Also great vid, I like watching your videos, they help me get through this time
Such a great video. BB15 was supposed to be the new blueprint, but then they had to do a do-over for that with BB16 which is the *true* start of the modern era
I STOPPED what I was doing. New Peridiam, yay!
I agree Ashley I instantly clicked, was waiting for his video all week after all the Podcast, im ready 4 the first Eviction
watching this back is crazy because bb22 was definitely the end of the “modern” era and bb23 is the new era with the new casting director and better show editing
Thanks for another great video! Could you make more BBCAN videos one day? Maybe comparing BBCAN vs US? Or ranking the seasons?
I would divide it like this 1) Trial-n-Error: BB1. 2) Classical Era: BB2-BB7(Ending with AllStars). 3) Middle Era: BB8-BB10. 4) Platinum Era: BB11-BB15. 5) Reset Era: BB16-BB18/OTT(Post Social Media Era). 6) Social Media Era: BB19-BB22 (Big Social Media influence)
Yeah, as I have said before. I feel like I would define the eras by camera and audio quality. Along with decorations.
They have improved a lot since the beginning
Big Brother Peridiam videos make me really happy!
For me, seasons 1 -10 were the best. Once they started the scripted diary rooms and focusing on showmances it went downhill.
This.
Danmm, you really make me want to go watch the earlier seasons
Please do. It’ll change your whole outlook on the show.
Big Brother 10 followed the classic formula, and look at how AMAZING it was! My top 10 mostly consists of the first half of 22 seasons.
You should do a video where you rank the seasons based on how the players that played in that season did in that season and all the other seasons they were on!!!
big brother all stars 2 definitely has an old school classic big brother feel to it
the scripted confessionals are awful
I remember watching majority of these big brother seasons with my mom and it’s nice to realize those good memories with mom are iconic seasons and great players. I remember seeing Ian and falling in love with him cause he was only a few years older 😂
I wish that they would show the Over the Top season on tv, or release it on dvd for those who couldn't watch it online (like myself)
janelles entrance into the safety suite comp... iconic
the second era is my favorite era of the show. the middle school era was pretty good too.
An interesting video you should do is a top 5 interesting big brother players who we didn't get to see their full potential e.i cause of early eviction, emotion, strategy etc
“America’s Player was a new twist for Big Brother 8, that seeped it’s way into the season so profoundly it was like no other season before it”
That’s one way of describing it. sure.
I definitely think the modern era was BB16-BB22. I feel like if there is an Allstars season, that that always has to be the final season of that era. Also I feel like BB15 was kinda the launch pad for new era but wasn’t actually the new era quite yet.
I think we would all love a vanilla season or like old school, PBJ sandwiches again, key wheel, food comps, no live voting so we don't even know exactly who's going, leas production for dr and so on
at 1:56 There is a comment on AOL from Dr Will that I never knew about
I feel like season 15 is in direct response to season 11 and 12 showmances.
You kill me every time you incorporate that "the game is afoot" reference X-D
Ian has been gold on the live feeds this year.
I'd say its
BB1
BB2-BB7
BB8-BB15
BB16- now
Great Video though!
You could do another unintentionally funny moments and you could include the part when Eric was talking crap about Janelle and Janelle entered the back yard to host the veto competition. 😂😂😂
this is how i would seperate it: BB1, BB2-5, BB6-10, BB11-15, BB16-21, BB22-present
u should go through each season and say who u think is the best player from that season in a video
If this show wasn't so cheap to produce and fill a summer time slot I don't think it would be on anymore.
Could you do the story of Will Kirby in season 7? I just really want to see you talking about the greats of big brother in general.
I hope they follow Survivor's lead and do an all winners season. Will needs to come back one more time.
The closest we've gotten in the past 4 seasons is Tyler and (unfortunately) Paul.
my favorite channel
Y'all should join the Peridiam Disocrd
I know I'm in the minority but I fell in love with BB in BB17. I really loved Vanessa and Johnny Mac and Steve and I'm glad Steve won.
I feel like 15 was such a cusp season, excited to see where it falls.
And I agree w you lol. Trippy
I just realized that 4/5 pre jurors in BB16, are from group 1, (Joey, Paola, Devin, Amber)
The classic era will always be the best, but big brothers like pizza even the worst is still good 🍕
Peridiam you son of a gun! You predicted David getting into BB All Stars
Season 2-8 was the best era of Big Brother. Season 10-14 was decent too
you know what era i miss? the era where they turn the keys and hand out the ones that were safe.
i like this new season because it pits the newer players against the older players and the new way of playing against the old way
Season 10-16 was my favorite times watching big brother.
I think the cover art for this vid describes the eras of Big Brother perfectly, for every 2 POC cast there’s 4-5 white people.
LMAO. facts
and they all sit alone in rooms together the entire time and wonder why they losr
it’s honestly such a shame
maybe not as many black people auditioned? people seem to forget that not EVERYTHING is racially motivated. also, white occupies much more of america than black people.
Ari McComsey it’s a known fact that not many game shows have many black people on them and IF they do have black people, it’s 1 or 2. i’m sure plenty of black people have auditioned for big brother but we never see a majority.
Well done. Nothing to add.
i think there's an argument to be made that the eras of the show line up with julie chen's style choices but i'm not smart enough to make that case
The one good thing that I've noticed in just three episodes of BB22 is that the DR sessions felt a lot more genuine. There's still a lot of overly produced stuff when it comes to competitions but there wasn't a ton of forced shouting which was a nice change of pace.
Yeasss!! We are here!!
Literally the exact same way I would have broken it down.
Does anyone else notice that at 8:18 they showed Aaryn twice?
did anyone catch that William Kirby quote at 1:54?....foreshadowing at its best...or was it fake?
I started with season 17 because my friends watched it and I know quite a bit about BB16 bc my friends and my mom. This is interesting as I before I really only knew about the early seasons because of my mom who watched it from the beginning and stopped around 16 and would only really flick and didn't watch the season in its entirety. Although she did like the winner of BB16. Plus with this new all star season I knew about have the cast and had to ask her about the rest as they were on the early seasons. Overall I'm interested to see where the show will go from this point. I'm supposed a season even started this year bc of corona.
