Actually the real disaster was entertaining too. During tests of the 4th reactor it started to overheat and someone tried pushing the emergency disable button, but it made things only worse and two explosions happened, the first one made the reactor's plate fly up and the second one was caused by the plate falling down.

Actually, the second explosion was caused by the superheated graphite and hydrogen mixing with the oxygen from outside, creating the much larger explosion which exposed the core.
