      $3500 is a very average price for synthesizers. Many can go well over $10,000 and in some cases, over $100,000. Synthesizers are very expensive and desirable, especially classic vintage analog synths.

      @@neonether True, but some non second hand synths like the Moog One or virtually any eurorack setup can easily catch up to the price of it. $3500 is still a lot, and definitely more than anything I've ever spent on a synth.

    The 3rd Wave is at its heart a wavetable synthesizer with PPG and modern modes, but it does so much more, (sampling, analog, FM, sequencing, MPC etc), and sounds great doing it. Plus... 24 voices and 4 parts always available. It sounds so good IMHO because the synth is doing exactly what it says it is doing without any compromised signal processing, electrical components or signal paths. We made it do everything it is doing, including the analog path, as inexpensively as a very small company could do it, without cheaping out on anything that you are hearing, seeing, or touching.

    What I don’t understand is how did we go from synths with 16-part multitimbral engines 30 years ago (JV/XV, Wavestation, etc) to $5k synths today that only have 4 parts (the wavestate is another offender, albeit cheaper). Why are we regressing? Apart from the Blofeld, Essence FM, and the Integra-7, there’s not much out there with those features, and two of those three are more than a decade old at this point.

      No it has 24 voices and 4 layers, meaning it can do 4 different presets at the same time and it distributes the 24 voices over those 4 presets. The reason it only has 24 voices is that it has an analog filter on all these 24 voices, so that's 24 separate filter chips (those can get expensive). If you want high quality emulation of analog filters on a PC, your best bet is a VST like U-He Diva. If you open up 4 different instances of Diva with some complex presets and in total 24 voices there's actually a decent chance you'll overload your CPU (if you have an average computer). So yeah it's more impressive than you think. 3500 is still hella expensive though, but there is a decent reason for the price.

    Cool but there are so many cool VSTs, often for free, that can do the same, if not better. And even if you want to use hardware, for that money you can start building yourself a modular synth.
    To me, synths like this are just there to look pretty. Those that want the sound use software. Those that want the hardware would rather spend the money on something that was found in an East German skip that smells faintly of rat pee when you turn it on.

    It sounds so so good for its intended purpose but not so much with modern. However you can’t just price something as if you took this R&D with you into a Time Machine back to the 80’s.
    This will limit the instrument’s usage (and not in a positive way) massively even among talented and/or major producers who think more pragmatically when buying the gear they use even if they have money to burn out of principle. It’s like the rappers who are “cheap” about buying expensive sneakers even though that’s a big flex in their community because they don’t think sneakers should be that expensive and that it’s a dumb rip off. They have the money and choose not to out of principle even though what they wear in that world is as important as the gear in ours.

      Yeah, but analog synths cost way more and are more expensive to make. they are easier to use.

    • @chinossynthesizer705
      @chinossynthesizer705 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah, but this 3rd wave seems like an expensive sampler. That can do virtual analog and limited 4 operator fm synthesis.

      @@chinossynthesizer705 looks like it. Just funny because between a good guitar, amp and pedals you’ll easily spend a lot more. Big bucks for the best tone.

      @@golf398 yeah, I have a friend who plays guitar, and it's easy to spend a lot of money on pedals and like 4 electric guitars and amps. Being a musician is expensive. Look at the inflation in the USA, lol.
