    All that watch this video, with these devices there is a HIGH probability there could be malware that comes pre installed on the device. Before using any device like this at the very least, please do a quick search to see if anything has been reported. This T95 device has been reported to have malware, please review this article. www.malwarebytes.com/blog/news/2023/01/preinstalled-malware-infested-t95-tv-box-from-amazon

    Looking forward to the follow up video! Not all android tv boxes are useless, those running on Amlogic S905W, S905X and a few others have pretty good support from the Armbian community and I've successfully installed Klipper and Mainsail via KIAUH on a few of these already (X96 mini), but still haven't used any of them in a real build. Even KlipperScreen worked with a touch screen! Wifi most likely won't work on most of these devices due to the lack of a proper driver, but a small nano usb wifi card will work just fine. Other downside would be the number of USB ports - in most cases only two ports are available. For the price (used ~$10) it's still worth it. Cheers!

      I have got klipper running on s805(mxq pro 4k-only on usb/sd old kernal 5.*) s905(hyfai-only-on usb/sd) s905x(t95x) via Armbian and a rk3328(libre renegade) and they support I2C, SPI and UART for the most part. Granted I haven't had much success with Armbian overlays to enable them. Haven't tried an android install yet but Klipper via KIAUH on Armbian can work also there are some other distros such as openwrt on the boards listed. Overall great way to save e-waste!

    I have a couple of Android TV box's that I bought as Christmas gifts but then learned that the intended recipients had upgraded their TV's to smart TV's so had to buy alternative gifts, I bought Orange Pi Zero 2 boards to fee up my RPi boards for other projects, it looks like I might be using the Orange Pi Zero 2 boards for other projects as well if Octoprint will run well on the Android TV box's.

    Nicer overview, thanks! (Especially for the "workarounds" section!)

    I would try with an amlogic box or rockchip. I have been out of the scene for a long time..but allwinner software used to be really bad. Amlogic was best followed by rockchip.
    An additional advantage on amlogic is the ease of running Linux native

    You should still disable "battery optimization" (read: RAM management) otherwise Android will kill the app if it's in background regardless of the fake battery status

    My question: My Prusa Mk3 i3 3D printer is housed in a remote shed that can get quite chilly. Although I don't live in an area with heavy snowfall, the low temperatures can still lead to minimum temperature errors for the bed and nozzle of my Prusa Mk3 i3 3D printer. Unfortunately, these errors can also make it difficult to start the printer remotely.
    These errors are frustrating because I have to use a heat gun to raise the nozzle temperature and restart the printer, and then repeat the process for the bed. Do you know of any ways to avoid these low temperature errors? Some people have suggested rolling back the firmware, but I prefer to keep the latest version if possible. What are your thoughts on this?

    • @ChrisRiley
      @ChrisRiley  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hear that, I have seen the same issue at times. You can disconnect and reconnect to restart the firmware. Sometimes that's enough to be able to allow you to start the heaters.

    • @MaxGoddur

    I just purchased on of these T95 units off of Amazon for $30. I wanted to install Armbnian onto it. I flared Armbian onto a micro SD card but it won't boot off the SD card. I found a button at the rear of the AV port and tried holding it down on power up but still can't get the Armbian to load. It basically plays dead. I tried with and without the monitor plugged in but no difference. Does anyone know how I can get this to boot Armbian or any Linux operating system? Thanks!

    Linus Tech Tips just did a video on how most of these cheap Android TV boxes have built in back doors that could be used maliciously. Probably best not to use these without securing them from accessing other things on your network.

    Telling that "TV Boxes are not worth it" for the task is just blatant generalizzation, clickbait even. You didn't even specify how much ram it have which is crucial when it comes to print/camera smoothness. That box (like many others) comes in different variants (RAM+Internal Storage related) but the cpu is definitely up for the task. Also you could've got rid of some bloatware

      @@Davor_3D_ZrAM first of all that's not rude but just factual and informative, the only "rude" part could be the "clickbait" one, which again is factual given that the very title of the video in short is "not worth it". Second, in the next video he's going to cover a lightweight Linux distro and not Android, let alone optimizing the latter. On the other hand, YOUR reply is aggressive instead and full of fanboyism since you ditch altogether my legit points and proceed to give incorrect informations about the next video. That's all.
