Okay well you weren't making 450hp at the time of this video, those stock 2v max out about 350rwhp with a supercharger because of the cams and heads. We figured out 20 years ago that putting money into a 2v is a waste of time.
Im currently doing research lol I have a kenne bell GT with 4.10s and I absolutely love it. I have some sumitomo all seasons that hook surprisingly well even in first gear. I have cams and longtubes I haven’t installed yet but I think I’m gonna wait until I get a built short block with some trickflow heads. I’ve taken down a few scat packs a couple of 10spd auto stangs and a couple of turbo mk4 golfs. I really don’t mind the rpm and gas mileage when cruising and I absolutely love the wow factor when giving friends a ride. Point is I was thinking about moving to a 3.55 or 3.73. I think I’m gonna stick to the 4.10 for now
I agree with you on this one..3.55’s are probably one of the reasons terminators are such a roll racing legend..The people here saying that 4.10 boosted is better aren’t taking all variables and scenarios into consideration…even with cams and higher redline you will still be better off with 3.55 or 3.73 for well rounded performance..
Very sound advice! I have a 2003 Mach 1 with 530HP and I'm putting in a Strange 9 inch with 3:25 gears this winter and switching out the 3:55. To get any sort of traction a smaller gear is needed. I pressed the red button. Great Channel!!!
3.73 gears in my NA 98 Cobra with bolt ons, tune, and NITTO 555 G2 315/35/17s out back. No traction issues and I can still reach 145 mph. The only negative is the drone out of my SLP Loudmouth IIs. Gas mileage is easily 20-25 mpg hwy.
I agree with you. My 97 cobra is super annoying to daily drive with 4.10’s. My gas mileage sucks and I’m shifting into 3rd by the end of the intersection for normal driving, and on the highway at 80, it’s like 3k rpm! I’m going back to stock 3.27’s. Good call!
Anyone buying any muscle car with gears for mileage is an idiot. I run 4.11 gears in my Camaro for the past 41 years. 632 big block chevy, t400 trans with trans brake and 3800 convertor. Tires are 28x12x15 cheater slicks.and i do run it on the street.

I had a manual '99 GT with 4.10 gears CAI, and exhaust and I loved it. 1-2 @ 29 mph 2-3 @ 57 mph 3-4 @ 90 mph 4-5@ 120 mph The biggest downside of the 4.10 was that even though they pulled like crazy, my 0-60 time got hurt with that 57 mph shift from 2-3.
4.10s are great for a built acceleration car with good suspension, wheels and tires. Otherwise I prefer 3.55-3.73 for a nice balance of acceleration at low speeds and pulling on highways.
I'm at 680whp I have 4.10s it's not about the HP it's also tire size and transmission ratios. I'm also still doing 80mph at 2k rpm. The rule of thumb is you should be able to hit your 1/4 mile trap speed in your 1:1 gear.
Ive got a 99 cobra..love my 4.10s. Gaa miliage. Sucked till I got a tremec too 500 with .50 overdrive...i take off in 2nd...1st is only for stoplights...2 valves don't rev...i shift at 7500..my engine will pull so 8k...the problem isn't the 4.10s its your no flowing heads
Have a 69 Fastback, used to have a 65 coupe with 3.55. Really liked that one. The 69 has a 2.79 I plan to change out to the 3.55 like my coupe behind a sniper Holley’ed 302 rebuilt original motor. Thanks for the tips always wondered the difference.

Can't agree my 900hp Shelby was 3.73 and it was there perfect street car that I could daily. Your issue is a suspension issue these cars have aged so you need to upgrade parts so you can stop the spinning the tires at 450wheel

I went from 3.31 to 3.73 just for that reason lol I’m going to shoot for about 450hp but they shut our track down so it’s all street now. Plus I’m getting older and blowing the tires off all the time isn’t really my thing anymore 😂
Truthfully it’s hard to get anything more than 4 or 500hp to work on the road lol I’ve been working on my suspension first and honestly I’m happy I have :)
I bought a 2001 mustang gt it came with a vortec v2 supercharger and it also has the 4:10 gears. I’ve owned the car for 2 weeks but I still haven’t figured out the sweet spot on my mustang at what speed does boost kick in? Does the car want to get redlined in first gear?
If your first gear is spinning at all then I would not recommend redline. Same thing if you're switching into 2nd and getting wheelspin, shifting early in 1st could limit the torque spiking. High RPM powershifting is fun af in these cars though.

Yes!!! At the most go up to 3.73, but I don’t recommend anything higher than 3.55. Would you start adding serious horsepower you would think the higher gear ratio would help you, but often times it’s the exact opposite.

Hes talking about rpm but the 4.6 will indeed run boosted to 6.5-7k w/ no issues as it only sees that higher rpm for a brief second vs being sustained. And then gas mileage, car will easily do 16-17 mpg city and 24-25 ish mpg highway, staying out of boost.... Considering stock is 17mpg city and 27 mpg highway... Really not much of a difference. Like 25 miles a tank difference... Hate to say it, but the car will be a dog w/ a longer gear and this minimal power. I hope he at least decides to stick w/ a 3.73.
Dude you are comparing a GT500 w/ a completely different motor and trans to a 4.6L 2V. We don’t have no where near the same redline STOCK and a trans that works completely different. 750whp w/ 4.10 gears on a New Edge for the street? That doesn’t make any sense.

It's more about the torque than the HP. Keep it to 450rwtq with a good tune. There are stock 2v with boost and cams that make 500rwhp, get revved to 6500, and last for years.
My 02 gt has a built motor, 2.1 KB-- I put 3.90 gears in with a TKO 600 trans w/ 0.64 overdrive.. To me, it's the perfect street setup. You get low-end punch plus topspeed pulls. I've hit 165 mph easily.. Crusing at 75 mph, 1800 rpm..
Rear gears an stall converters lol ....u need a stall converter an not a 410s..a 3500 stall will get ya up to speed ...if u allready have lotsa hp . If ur running 275 to 350 ..hp run gears.. u want stalls for high hp or cammed

I have a boosted 95 with 4.10’s and daily drive it and couldn’t be happier with them. My last dyno was with the stock 2.73’s and it put down 440whp. I’m also on a 315 Mickey Thompson street et. Street tires on this setup would not be fun.
How many miles on your 95? I’m thinking about buying one with a built 302. I don’t know how many miles on the engine since it’s built but it’s 210 on body atleast

Don’t change the gears cause once you get cams and headwork you’ll rev way higher and go back to 4.10’s, don’t fear the gear!

3.73’s IMO best compromise for street/strip - I have them in my 500 hp 99 cobra and they work great - tire is key as others have noted as well

I got same car rev to 6200 4.10 gears and I can do about 130mph 4th with a 26.4” tire From dig it hooks You need suspension and a good tire

If ears had a higher rpm like 7000, the extra rpm would make up for the lost mph and im pretty sure ears wouldn’t have been bothered with the gears

Boost and rpm go together not speed/mph. You should start building boost around 2500-3000rpm.

Mine has the 3.73’s and I wanted the 410’s but I am glad that I got one with something in between in case down the line I boost it.

He has a v trim with a 2.95 pulley running about 15 lbs of boost no problem and thats on low end.
