The "Jingle Bell Rock" cover by Voice Play was a spoof of the scene from the "Mean Girls" movie (that scene is on You Tube if you are not familiar with the scene). Wonderful that they included family members in the audience including Eli's wife and newborn son and Layne's wife was the camera mom. I like Geoff's Country style and sense of humor including the Country music stereotypes (loss of truck, dog and woman done him wrong) in "Blue Christmas" as it is a bit of a depressing song that he made fun and he gave it a hopeful ending as he often does on his covers of sad songs. The visuals and captions and the Easter eggs there are important to Geoff and Voice Play for all their deaf and hearing impaired fans (not just Geoff's wife Kathy) to enhance the enjoyment of their performances for everybody. Geoff, Layne, and extended family member/frequent featured guest, Omar Cardona, all have family members that are deaf or hearing impaired (as most families do) as well as some of their patrons.
I'm sure Elvis would love this whole thing. He never took himself too seriously and had a great sense of humour. I've seen him adlibbing in a live performance and it was hilarious. Geoff has made a video about Kathy's hearing loss. They are such sharing and genuine people. You have to love them. It's a blow by blow copy of the song as performed in The Mean Girls movie.
I it was fun even without knowing anything about the Mean Girls, but I did watch theirs after. Layne wanted every move in the choreography to be exactly like theirs. Hysterical. And we know that no one in their right mind would throw Geoff out, even if he can't fold clothes properly!!
LMBO! He is a national treasure, and VoicePlay as a collective is always so creative and talented. Layne making sure they were lined up correctly and bickering about it.... loved it
