I saw this interview with Edge, and damn. He really commited to the character 100%. Really making you believe he’s an asshole. Knowing you hear his music, you know somebody gonna get screwed.
“My goal as a heel, I truly wanted to be despised by 100% of that audience. That was my goal. I didn’t want one person cheering me. So I would try and present myself in a way that there were no redeeming qualities whatsoever… I wanted you to think that I was the worst, sleazy, maniacal, do anything to get to the top. That was really the mantra for Edge at that stage. All he cares about is the world title. That’s it.” Interview from EssentialySports in 2021.

And then the same thing happened at Elimination Chamber 2010: have Vince McMahon come out after John Cena defended/won the WWE Championship in an Elimination Chamber match only for him to bring out someone (Edge, who was cashing in his Money in the Bank contract and Batista as payment for attacking Bret Hart) to defeat a battered Cena to win the WWE Championship.

@@tmac731 No. In 2010, Batista, as payment by Vince McMahon for attacking Bret Hart whom Vince was having a feud with at the time due to re-igniting the ill-feelings of the Montreal Screwjob, was given an impromptu title match against John Cena after he successfully defended the WWE Championship in the Elimination Chamber.
Of course, just like what Edge did in New Year's Revolution 2006 minus the cash-in, Batista defeated a heavily beat-up, exhausted and fatigued John Cena (who had just successfully defended the WWE Championship in an Elimination Chamber match, but now had to immediately defend the title) to win the WWE Championship.

You just appreciate his heel work but back then, you really get into it with the characters. You become invested in them, and commentary is selling it too.

The Ruthless Aggression era was great. They stripped back some of the more extreme moments of the Attitude Era, but it still didn't feel overly sanitized and micro-managed. Two of the biggest problems (for me) of WWE in recent years.

@@richardsinclair7661 ok. You do have a point. I felt the RA era did begin moving away from the cartoon parts of pro wrestling. Most guys in this time had more “real life” gimmicks compared to before. Even Undertaker ditched the deadman gimmick and was a biker and Kane was revealed to not actually be scarred. Plus most guys in this period used either their real names or normal sounding names. Angle, Lesnar, Batista, Cena Benjamin, Lashley even Bradshaw repackaged as John Bradshaw Layfield and incorporated his real life business background into his gimmick. Considering WWE prefers to have ring names they can trademark.
Surprised this episode wasn’t retroactively rated TVMA like some WWE events were (Like when Eddie Guerrero bled like a pig against JBL). I do know Lita accidentally had a nip slip and WWE had to edit it out
Kinda sucks a lot of Attitude era fanboys dismiss the RA era as a lesser attitude era. It may not have been as iconic or culturally influential but it was still great

The side detail about Edge's money in the bank cash-in on The Undertaker on Smackdown in May 2007 was the fact that it was only the 3rd ever money in the bank cash-in that was successful, but the very first cash-in to happen on SmackDown on free basic cable tv. Rock musician Ozzy Osbourne performed on that episode of Smackdown his song entitled "I Don't Wanna Stop" as well, which would be the official theme for the upcoming 2007 WWE Judgment Day pay-per-view event. #YOUTHINKYOUKNOWME

Prime Edge will always be my favourite of all time.
I maybe the only kid who liked Edge more than anyone and thought he was a cool Rockstar type of guy back during his heel run. Don't care if he was slimy... Edge from 2005-2009 was just cool and incredibly entertaining... sure he was a opportunistic weseal and played the character so well but I think he played such a great heel back in the day that all the kids who hated him now have become adults and like/respect him for how good and entertaining he was as a heel.
They tried to make Edge heel this year and it flopped because no one nowadays wants to boo or hate Edge. Most fans want to cheer him. Edge at Wrestlemania 37 literally had half the crowd chant him instead of Bryan and that's saying something because Bryan was so likeable but half the crowd was Team Edge instead of Bryan.
Edge's feud with Matt Hardy, John Cena, Undertaker, Batista, DX, Jeff Hardy, Mick Foley, Ric Flair and HBK as a heel were all amazing and his tag team with Orton and his partnership with Lita and Vickie were also entertaining
Call it biasm but Edge is one of the all time greats. Take in all his accomplishments and career. Edge is definitely in the top 20 GOATS of WWF/E history... maybe even top 15

Look up on TH-cam on Edge's interview with Inside the Ropes about his match with Mick Foley. Edge wanted to change the plans for WM22's main-event, and Edge said that when he handed Vince the briefcase at New Year's Revolution, Vince whispered to him "Prove me right!", and Edge worked to try and change Vince's mind about having Cena vs. Triple H at WM22, but he couldn't do it. Also, Edge admitted that every death-defying and high-risk spots that he'd ever performed in his entire career came from his own mind, because, IIRC, Edge said: "Become I'm an idiot"

Then you gotta imagine all the haters and what they were thinking when they heard Edge couldn't wrestle anymore, for real this time. Night after WrestleMania 27, he vacates the championship, and announces he has to retire. Back then, it was heartbreaking knowing that one of the best had to retire and what was worse, not on his terms. It wasn't Edge speaking that day, it was Adam Copeland, a man who gave up so much of his body, his time, and his life to entertain us, whether he would get beaten up, or make us hate him. The haters/kids in early 2000s might've cheered, but some who have come to know who the wrestlers really are sympathized with him

Going back and watching the attitude era, the paper views showed there is a justifiable reason people call it that, but for me it was when it went from Wrestling to Entertainment, and I think from 2003 to about 2011 or so they did a really good job of blending both.

I have a funny story about Edge becoming champion I didn't watch New Year's Revolution 2006 but I heard about what happened because my boy was talking about it the next day when we were in school he told me Edge became the champion and I was cool with it I was kind of shocked because of all the shit he did in 2005 but he was overdue for a wwe title run so we're waiting in line outside so the teacher can open the door to the classroom with the key then he blatantly says the edge is going to have a live sex celebration and my mind goes what ??? he said that shit so loud that the girls can hear and they was laughing because it sounded ridiculous saying it out loud lol so I go and I watch the entire segment later that night after school and it was a waste of my time honestly it was ridiculous lmao

The best thing Edge ever did, in my opinion is at No Way Out '09. He enters one Elimination Chamber as WWE Champion. Loses it. Beats up an entrant of the other Chamber match (kofi) takes his plade and wins the World Heavyweight Championship to win the other brands world title! Like you cannot imagine any way Edge can steal a World Title win and he proves you wrong again and again and again.

As far as my favorite edge match truth be told 🤔 him versus The undertaker at WrestleMania 24 that match was a thing of beauty I dislike edge in my childhood but I also like them as well if that makes sense lol regardless he's much respected doing some absolute great work today at this stage of his career is awesome nothing but respect for edge 💯💯
